Topic: Raising awareness

Don't worry this isn't about politics.

I created this topic because it personally really bugs me how many amazing games there are that potential fans are missing out on because of how obscure or underrated they are. These can also be games that aren't out yet and just haven't gotten much marketing.

As the title says this is meant to raise awareness for those underrated and obscure games so no recommending games that most people already know.

I vote for Bomberman Tournament. A little gem on the GBA. I've never encountered anyone who has played the game. The music is absolutely amazing!

I feel like most digital games fall into the "needs more awareness" category.

Any of you guys even heard of Mekazoo? Its like Donkey Kong Country meets Sonic the Hedgehog - a high-speed 2.5 Platformer where you play as robotic animals. Studio released it with no fanfare and no hype (didn't even show up at Indie Megabooths at conventions or anything) in, like, November. No one bought it, and they went out of business. I'm with you, Plextor08. Way too many games slip under people's radars. And like, I get it for the "Wal*Mart Joes" out there who only have GTAV, NBA 2K, and Call of Duty/Battlefield for their consoles. But for people who frequent gaming websites, its shocking how few people actually pay any attention to game announcements, or follow game/developers that look interesting (even though its super easy to do that with Social Media). Yet there are people who keep complaining about the lack of games in certain genres or sequels to old franchises... its clear they only pay attention to names they've heard before. Its depressing.

Like with LASTFIGHT! Pretty much Power Stone 3. Based on a French manga, sort of (kind of a different version of the same universe), named LASTMAN. It looks sick, plays like a dream, and is Power Stone for today. WAY TOO FEW people have heard of this, yet SO MANY keep complaining about Capcom not making Power Stone 3 - its infuriating!

I mean there are whole genres of games people are ignoring because they're coming from indies who can't self-promote and releasing digitally. We're sick for choices, and so many ignore it all. If people want these experiences, they should go looking for them instead of waiting for these games to slap them in their face.

Not many to be honest from memory but I loved Gun on PS2. It was a western with a small open world. It had some amazing voice talent and was just fun, if a little gruesome places. It came out around the same time as Red Dead Revolver but was superior imo.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@PLEXTOR08 @TruthfulVoice It's down to the developers to market the game as best they can without overspending, price it well and make the best game possible.

I've seen some developers visiting pushsquare when a games reviewed. Why don't the same developers actually build some links with the team here, get some alphas out into the community and get some free market research? I will tell you why, because it requires a fresh approach and hard work.

Videoball one of my favorite games is a perfect example, I sent the Facebook page of the developer a message saying how brilliant the different AI was and got sweet FA back, not even a like. You need to have these basics covered. Cover all social media, reply to Everyone and build a fan base. I know at least 2 people who have bought the game on my recommendation, what would happen if that was Sammy, the editor of Eurogamer or Polygon who sent the comment - that's the missed opportunity that could get the ball rolling on bigger projects.

I agree that a number of poor titles seem to dominate the charts at times, but that's life, these games have fans and the publishers have this area covered. The social aspect of gaming is as important as the game itself. Wherever gaming together, commenting in forums, having a booth at egx, sending thank you emails and asking for feedback. Building a brilliant game is all well and good but games, like programs, music and websites need more to make you want to engage.

I understand the topics about finding hidden gems but I want small developers to start visiting places like this and offering up some info in person.

@themcnoisy There used to be a few devs on Nintendolife, but I'm not sure if there are anymore. I can't remember their names, but they would hype up their games so much that by the time they got released on WiiWare or whatever, expectations were way too high. Then there would be an inevitable backlash to the game that would undo all the interest and goodwill they had generated with the community, so it's a tricky game to play.

@Wesker
Well I'm an Rpg nut so most of these are going to be just that. The first game I can think of is Divinity: Original sin. It's a top down hardcore Rpg (think of Baldurs gate mixed with Final Fantasy) that got released on ps4 a little over a year ago. I think it's a must have if you're really into Rpg's but alot of people don't even know it exists because it gets overshadowed by giants like Skyrim and The Witcher. It really makes me sad because you can clearly see how much thought the developers have put into crafting the world, characters and questlines. It also features full local and online coop which is extremely enjoyable if you have a friend who is also into those kind of games.

Another obscure game is the upcoming Absolver. From what I've seen it's a Tekken-esque fighting game/rpg that even takes inspiration from Dark Souls. It's also multiplayer and features character customization. It releases in a couple of months and it was announced during E3 2016 but people seem to have completely forgotten about it. This is partially the developers fault for not showing anything during this years E3 but still people should really pay more attention to upcoming releases.

I forgot to mention that this isn't exclusively about Playstation games. I know not everyone here has two different consoles but I've seen multiple Nintendo related topics so it seems fair to assume that some people here at least have a 3ds

@themcnoisy Two Iron Galaxy games! That's fine as long as you don't start recommending Wreckateer!
I'll throw in Downwell. It doesn't seem to get the same love as games like Spelunky, Rogue Legacy, or Binding of Isaac, but it's a really good one of those, whatever they're called, Rogue lite likes, or something like that.
