I recently bought a PSone. I used to have one as a kid, but had to sell it off at some point. So, I bought this one to occasionally play old games and to have for the sake of collecting. I looked at the AV cable and had a concern though.
The AV cable that came with the console looks like this: http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_82088_2.jpg. I am not sure what the proper term is, but there are gold pins on about half the width of the end that goes into the console.
Upon doing an image search, I found another version with gold pins spanning the entire width of the end that goes into the console: http://76.my/Malaysia/ps2-av-component-cable-1-8m-chocobozz-1... This seemed a bit odd to me, so I thought I'd post here. Is there any difference between the two cables or advantage of one over the other?
Could not open the image. Its been so long since I used the ps one cannot really remember what cables were used. You can use a rgb to scart cable which will give you better picture quality.
dont know the difference in the two chum but either one will work just fine imho. I still have my ps1 connected into my entertainment system (along with 8 other old consoles) and mine is connected with the half gold type and works great so I'd say the full one will work as well. FYI the connection I have isnt the original either it was bought off Amazon a few years back when I decided to connect all my consoles into my entertainment wall. It was only a few quid also if my memory recall correctly. Plump for the cheapest imho.
I got a full gold one back in the day for my PS2.. Apparently it increased image quality? Can't say I really noticed! You're safe with either option, if image quality is an issue for you don't bother with a PS1 full stop haha
On further reading I understand the gold plating is to help limit potential corrosion of the cable and fittings which leads to signal loss. I think it'll just retain a better image over time.. But honestly any will serve its purpose for you I reckon.
