Topic: PS2 audio drop-out

I'm having an issue with my silver Slim PS2.
Games play fine, however, when playing a DVD, the audio drop out a whisper and then comes back to normal, but I have to set the TV to like 70 just to have it at normal volume.

Is it the RGB cable or the system?

@Gold_Ranger I'm not sure of the specific answer in your case, I'm afraid, but some DVDs have different types of audio encoding and films are obviously encoded differently to games. It could lead to audio sounding fine for one, but distorted or different for another.

Could you perhaps try a different cable? Then that'd tell you if it's definitely a problem with your console or not, and I'd imagine a new cable is easier to source than a new PlayStation2.

@RogerRoger it could be the DVD's i have some old ones that do it no matter what i play them on

@FullbringIchigo If I were a suspicious man, I'd be convinced that it was a deliberate ploy in the original audio design of the old DVD and / or newer sound technology, to make everybody upgrade to Blu-Ray and double-dip on certain films and shows.

If I were a suspicious man.

The PS2 won't play DVDs properly with an RGB cable, only composite or component for some reason. On mine the picture was green and there was no audio. PS2 Slims often play DVDs very quietly anyway. When I used one as the main dvd player in the bedroom, the audio had to be turned right up.
