KALofKRYPTON

So I thought I'd create a PS1 Classic mini thread as the story posts are getting pretty busy.

Sound off with whatever - but looking at the product shots I noticed that the console has a recreation of the OG PS1 expansion port.

Could this amount to an official method of adding more games to the system down the line or just recreating the console case as faithfully as possible?

I'll kick things off by saying that Wild Arms is recommended for any RPG fans who haven't played it. I didn't get around to playing it until 2008, so I can say it holds up well.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@KALofKRYPTON Yeah I'm thinking that there will be a way to add more games in time, which would probably make this a must-buy for me.

Also I'm wondering whether they'll incorporate PSN functionality and trophies somehow?

@Gremio108 I'd love if it turned out to be a full controller port for DualShocks!

It's probably going to be a sticker of some serial pins!

it could just be decoration, after all the NES and SNES Classics also had the covers for cartridges on them even though you can't use them

As much as I would love some expansion possibility I'm not expecting it, really.

But, if the quality of the remaining 15 games is on par with the current line-up I will definitely buy it. Still need to play Wild Arms, currently have no way to play FF7, and would love to play some classic RR again. So if this all amounts to 10 really good titles, then I'm in.

@FullbringIchigo I was worried about that as well, but I bought it in a sale a few weeks ago and still got the theme.

So far the lineup doesn't excited me and make me want to rush out and buy one but the way the NES and SNES mini did. I will be frank though the PS just doesn't hit that nostalgia button on me like the NES and SNES did but then again when PS came out I just graduated high school and I my interest on vidoe games at the time was not as big as it once was. It's nice for those who are have stronge nostalgia ties to it

Gonna wait on the full game lineup before deciding on it. I bought an NES Classic, so I'm not against this. Hoping the games will make it worth $100.

@Tasuki the PS1 was the first console i ever brought myself, i got a job as a ball boy at a local 5 a side football league just to buy one and Final Fantasy VII so for me it's a very nostalgic system

The more I look at that picture, the more I think it's an actual port cover for something... Vita Memory Cards!

Perhaps the only way to expand the games line up will be in the most Sony way possible by purchasing PS1 games on the Vita version of the store, on PlayStation TVs (only), then transferring the Vita Memory card (64GB only) to the expansion port of the Classic...?

Just like with Nintendo and the NES, I thought Sony with the PSone did a great job marketing the machine and bringing in new, more mainstream audiences but the systems weren't overly great, imo. Very good, but not ones that get the nostalgia going for me like SNES and PS2. I do think it's awesome that Sony is doing this though and I may even get one of these if it has enough of my favorite PSone games on there. I hope it's successful, though to be honest as far as retro gaming I wish Sony would be more active in delivering PSone and 2 games on PS4 with trophies. The added bonus there would be getting to use a DualShock 4 instead of those old, clunky original PS controllers.

@KALofKRYPTON what if it's a PS1 memory card slot so you can transfer your old PS1 saves onto the Classic?

that would be awesome

@Ralizah I mean without spending money. It's sixteen or something. I might still do that, though, but if the PS1 Classic line up is really good, it might make a nice collection instead.

I've got my preorder in with Amazon atm, but I'm going to try and switch it to GAME over the weekend as my elite membership would get me a ~£9 off the RRP. Hoping they don't run out of allocations... .

@FullbringIchigo Oh it was my first console that I bought on my own too previously all the consoles I got were birthday and Christmas gifts from my parents. But honestly I didn't play a whole lot of games at the time that and alot of games either disappointed me or I was fine playing once. Coming off of FF VI (III at the time) FF VII was a huge disappointment Metal Gear Solid was good but once was enough for me. Honestly the only PS one game I play anymore is Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Now maybe if Twisted Metal is on it......
