@mookysam I prefer the pacing. Lots of freedom and exploring between chapters that I find I do naturally. The cutscenes arentt frequent outside of the story missions sbut the game is broken up in a way to make it 10 hours between them so yourre never bogged down.
And I love the aesthetic and world design too. Oh and the soundtrack.
It's funny that you guys are discussing Xenoblade, because I just beat Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
I ignored pretty much all the side quests. I didn't really find any of them interesting. A lot of fetch quests/material gathering. The Heart-to-Heart stuff was much more interesting. The waypoint system in general was infuriating and don't get me started on Field Skills.
So I just focused on the main story and am I glad that I did. An absolute epic! It takes quite a while to get going, but by the time I had the credits rolling I clocked up almost 72 hours.
I really liked the combat system by the end. It just kept expanding, but at no point did I think I was being overwhelmed by the mechanics.
Great characters and story. I really grew to like Pyra in the end. Also special shout out to the OST. The different locations had great themes! Indoline is heavenly!
There's quite a bit that did annoy me (some of the bosses!!), but all in all XBC2 is a really great JRPG.

@KratosMD You have to go turn in quests on XBC2 so it's a bit different. Also the requirement of field skills makes them quite complicated to complete sometimes. And I agree they are largely quite rubbish. But I did enjoy doing some as the world is fun to explore. But it's all about that main story. Seriously the cut scenes are awesome.
@KratosMD Pretty much what Kyle said. I also didn't like the quest structure & the presentation. It felt very 'B tier' JRPG. I really like the way exp worked in the game. I never had to grind, as the exp scales. You can also get an exp bonus multiplier during combat (I let you find out what that is), which can result in massive exp gains.
It was really well balanced. Only did the story and never felt like I was under levelled. There were some broken boss fights though, which were annoying Power Lines, MK VI, ....

@KratosMD We havent even seen a screenshot of that game yet. First one announced for the system in 2015 too.
Its not coming out in Japan until next year at the earliest and apparently SE is sick of people asking.
I dont think its coming at this poibt but Square made their bed by annojncing a game before they even knew if UE4 would work or the systems final specs.
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4
@Fight_Teza_Fight Glad you enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2! Yeah, I also have my complaints with it (after-credits scene almost ruins the climax of the story and there's still some pretty significant bugs in the game, even after months of patches), but overall I found it to be an absolute delight. The constant skill checks during side-quests can get a bit obnoxious until you develop a large stable of blades to rely on, but I did end up really loving the huge amount of work that goes into cultivating the affinity charts for your rare blades. Also, the blade quests, with their voiced cutscenes and fun character interactions, were one of the best parts of the game.
How difficult would you all say Hollow Knight is? Is it throw things across the room in a rage kind of difficult? Order of Ecclesia is perhaps the most difficult Metroidvania I've played so far.
@Knuckles-Fajita Thanks. I'll have to look up some of the tunes! I'm sure I'll get round to playing both in the future, but story is typically more of a draw for me in RPGs.
@KratosMD Are you getting Dragon Quest XI on the PS4? I'm hoping that the Switch version will be closer to the 3DS one. It probably won't be, but the 2D aesthetic you can choose looks awesome.
@mookysam XCX has some pretty wild storytelling but it puts gameplay and gameplay pace first.
Your story is told through the world, and specific side quests like Affinity Quests and Heart to Hearts.
Plus there is a lot of economy work.
If I had to suggest some themes to jam to: Kuro no Tairiku, Shiro no Tairiku, Piano X3, THEMEX, NO. EX:01 and Black Tar, just for a start.
For bonus chuckles, Sony actually had the XCS OST rips removed from YouTube for a while. Now you may be thinking, on what grounds? Turns out none, as they simply saw the name "Hiroyuki Sawano", said "He's signed with us" and went to town...forgetting they dont own the music.
As for DQXI Square seems to point the finger at UE4 as the issue so that aint the 3DS version
@Ralizah Yeah it’s great. Monolith have a fan in me.
However it reminds me how I would like nothing more than a Sony produced AAA JRPG & how it’s never going to happen.
Speaking of JRPGs...I’m probably going to pick up Tales of Vesperia on Switch. It kind of looks like a Nintendo game.
Also it’s been hard not biting the bullet on Hollow Knight just by following this thread, but I’m holding out for the PS4 port.

Good. Maybe we'll see more Ys ports in the future.
@mookysam Hollow Knight has a pretty fair difficulty curve. Some of the optional DLC bosses get hair-rippingly hard, but you shouldn't have any issue actually completing the game, I think.
It's challenging, but not quite Dark Souls levels of challenging, you know?
I mean, obviously, this will also depend on your proficiency at playing 2D action games.
I did think Order of Ecclesia was the more difficult game between the two.
Oh, and they've said that DQXI on Switch will be based on the PS4 version. I'm hoping we hear more soon. I'd prefer to play it on Switch, so I'll be waiting for that version.
