@BAMozzy @NecuVise I got the Lucidsound LS35X last week, my first impressions when I opened the box was I thought they looked really sleek and stylish, looked more like a smart pair of Beats headphones rather than a gaming headset. I really like how the game/chat volume dials are encompassed in the ear cups that are in the form of rings and muting either one just requires to press either ear cup cover like a button.

The build quality felt great, I really like the black quilted headband and it’s got quite a bit of metal on the headset to give it that extra bit of sturdiness and premium feel, not the usual all-plastic you get with most other gaming headsets. The negative thing about it having quite a bit of metal though is that it is heavy, a lot heavier than my other headset the Astro A40, wireless headphones usually are heavier than wired but I don’t think the metal frame helped with the weight. With the A40 I used to game for many hours in one sitting and it was so comfortable to wear but with the LS35X being a lot heavier and tighter when in use after 2-3 hours, it felt a relief to take them off after I was done with them. That being said it is comfortable to wear while gaming with it’s memory foam fabric ear cushions and I could really feel the coolness from the cooling gel that’s inside the ear cups but I could only feel them for a short while when using the headset for the first time each day I used them then the coolness goes away.

The battery life is fine, it’s advertised as 15 hours but I honestly think it’s a bit less than that maybe 11-12 hours. It doesn’t take that long to fully charge so there’s at least that. It’s so easy to set-up and connect to the Xbox One, with just two clicks of the sync buttons on both the headset and Xbox One they were both paired, it was really as simple as that with no dongles, usb/optical cables in sight, it’s truely wireless.

Now the most important thing, how it performs sound wise. I immediately could tell they were louder than my Astro A40 with mixamp, it had a deep and punchy bass, positional audio is great, even in just stereo I could hear everything in a game a lot more louder and clearer than I did with 5.1 surround sound with the A40. I already had bought the Dolby Atmos app and had it enabled in the settings so as soon as I tried Gears of War 4, one of the very few games that are compatible with Dolby Atmos, I really could hear noises from all directions, if someone was speaking to my left but not necessarily directly to my left, I could hear exactly where they were positioned without looking and when I did look I knew exactly where they were, same goes to gun shots. I was impressed most when I was under a bridge and I could hear the footsteps like they were literally above me, to put it weirdly it was like having a third ear on the top of my head.

I’ve tried other games that are compatible with Atmos and I was equally impressed but what bothers me is that there’s now a lack of support for Atmos, games like BF1 and AC Origins supported Atmos but BFV and AC Odyssey do not, why would they support Atmos on last years titles but not this years? Seems odd, it’s like last years titles having 4K HDR but then not bothering to do the same to this years. Definitely seeing a lack of interest and effort from companies to make Atmos compatible with their products.

Overall I’m really happy with the headset so far, I’ve yet to test them on PS4 and I don’t even know if I’m able to use them to watch TV. I’ve also not used the boom mic yet but I know the headset has mic monitoring so I will have to try them out and will update about it here if I find anything worthy to mention.

@MaccaMUFC I don't think Dolby Atmos is the standardised format, it's still not universally part and parcel of the cinema experience in the UK. Unlike 4K it is not in every tv or sound system these days and I think you have to pay a licence fee to have it in your product, so they maybe why it is not in some games this year.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
