Topic: Games you've recently beat

I thought this would make an interesting thread, a place where we can discuss what games we may have just beat. It doesn't matter what system, if it's modern or retro if it's a video game that you just beat feel free to discuss it here.

Just a couple of things

1. Stay clear of posting a review and rating games (1 out of 10 that sort of thing) which is against the rules here if your post comes off as a review I will edit/delete it.

2. Don't use this as a place to advertise an LP or anything along those lines.

3. Spoilers are bound to pop up here so read at your own risk. If you want you can use the spoiler tags to avoid giving out spoilers to your fellow readers but not everyone knows how to do it or will. So again read at your own risk.

So enjoy.

So tonight I beat the original Mega Man on the Mega Man Legacy Collection for PS4.

I enjoyed it alot and I will be honest I did abuse save states especially in Dr. Wily's stage. A nice foundation to a great series.

Last game I beat was "The Unfinished Swan". Interesting game, worth a playthrough for anyone who picked it up on PS Plus like I did as it's quite short, it has a unique method of exploration and a cool method of story-telling, though the story is kinda childish. I'd imagine it's a fun game to play with a son/daughter or young relations.
Also beat Apotheon recently (PS Plus game January). Fun short game as well, some of the level design are very cool, particularly Athena's level. Also it's a pretty easy platinum for anyone interesting, theres a handy save glitch which lets you collect the last trophy

I beat Danganronpa recently. Really good Vita game. Japanese understand handheld gaming very well.

Beat Zone of Enders HD (the first game, not the entire collection) on my 360 a couple nights ago.

A few bullet points:

  • Gameplay/combat is a total blast.
  • Bosses are a highlight (most are saved for end of game gauntlet, though).
  • Not many basic enemy types.
  • It has a lot of backtracking.
  • Surprisingly short (I beat it in 5 hours, 20 minutes).
  • I liked the aesthetic, and everything in-engine cleaned up nice in HD.
  • The pre-rendered cutscenes seem inconsistent in their remastering quality (and all show their age, design wise).
  • Story is typical "it's up to teenager to pilot mech and save city".
  • It features a VS mode, which I haven't yet tried.

While many of those seem like negatives, I actually quite liked the game (though from what I've played of it so far, the second game has improved everything).

Beat The Bigs finally on 360, had it for about 5 years. Great game, best baseball game I've ever played easily (other than ootp as a manager).

@themcnoisy: I have The Bigs 2 on PS2 and I have to agree it's one of the best baseball games I have ever played. I really like of easy it is to pick up and play no need to be a baseball fanatic to enjoy the game.

@Tasuki: Sorry it is Bigs 2. I love the catching when you have to press the prompts and the full power bar and you get 4 hits to get tons of runs.

The bit I struggled on is a game were you have to get 4 people out from an infield catch with your created player in a 5 inning game. Ended up firing lame balls high into box so the batter popped the ball high and up. Still took me about 100 goes to complete as you have to win as well!!!

I most recently beat Dragon's Crown on the Vita, which I ended up enjoying a fair bit, but I don't think I have it in me to do a second or third runthrough on the higher difficulty tiers. There was a fair bit of replaying of stages involved just in finishing the first run, and while it is decent enough, there's not enough there to make me want to keep replaying the same bits again and again!

Before that it was Resistance: Burning Skies, which I don't think would have seemed anywhere near as bad if I hadn't already played Uncharted and Killzone on the Vita. I was especially surprised to find that, once I eventually found an online match, I rather enjoyed the quick go I had on the MP. Again, not a patch on Killzone, but definitely more enjoyable than the main game was!

Next up will be MGS V. I am up to the final story mission, which I will be completing tonight, after which I will be reverting back to an earlier save to begin the long process of attempting to S rank everything (I already have 4 or 5) and go for 100%. I am loving this game so much that I am determined to platinum it! Need to start saving my materials for developing a nuke, as apparently it takes almost a full real world day of actual play time to complete development!

I beat Zone of the Enders: the Second Runner HD last night!

I won't do a whole list like I did with the first game, but I'll say that it improved upon the first game in pretty much every conceivable way.

The lock on system was a pain in one particular boss fight, and they introduced a few escort missions, but other than that, it was fantastic (a couple of later missions, such as one where you singlehandedly take on a warship armada, and another one where you lead a small army against hundreds of foes were awesome).

Finished up Metal Gear Rising (360) last night (well, the main story mode anyways. I still have the "VR Missions" to do).

I had a really fun time with this one, and though it was filled with all the things I love about games & there's nothing about it I disliked, for some reason I can't quite explain, I just don't think it'll be my favorite game I've played this year.

I beat the story mode of Mortal Kombat X which I really enjoyed. One of the best video game stories I have seen in awhile. Now I am working on the towers and other modes.

@Splat: I'm about halfway through at the moment, and I'm loving it. I hear a lot about how it doesn't hold up that well, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how good it feels to play after all these years! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to replaying Uncharted 2 more, but the original is excellent too, and a really well done remaster.
