Topic: What are the chances that the ps vita will be discontinued by Sony?

Either in 2015 or 2016, some people say it won't be around to see the light of day. Do you believe the PS Vita will stay in business by then?

It's definitely going to survive through next year. I think PlayStation Experience proved that their strategy with it is to get as many bitesized games on there as possible - and these seem to sell well enough to keep getting made. In addition, the system's doing reasonably well in Japan still, which will extend its life.

I think it's fine in the short term.

It'll last as long as they have units left as I doubt they're making a ton more.

Sony won't discontinue it because hey remote play! It'll likely exist until the PS5 comes along. They don't want to hurt the PS4's sales one bit, and since the Vita's Remote Play was advertised like crazy with the PS4, the Vita is probably going to stick around for at least two to three years. Then when the PS5 comes out, Sony will release some kind of special DualShock 5 GamePad that is similar to the Wii U GamePad which will allow you to play all PS5 games on the go with no lag. Then Sony will quietly kill the Vita and their role in the dedicated gaming handheld market, making Nintendo the sole king again due to Sony's own incompetence.

And that's still a stupid move because not only will it piss the Vita fanbase off, but it may even hurt Sony's stake in the Japanese market because the Japanese prefer handhelds over consoles. That's why Sony is still releasing first party games like Freedom Wars.

What we're going to see is the Vita being half-alive for the next few years. Japanese third parties and indies will continue to deliver the goods while Sony will probably half-hardheartedly support it just to keep Vita owners semi-happy. I expect more HD Collections like Ico/Shadow of the Colossus for example and perhaps some more original games from Sony Japan like Gravity Rush 2 if we're very lucky.

As likely as you needing to breathe to live. If there's even HD collections being released this time next year I will be amazed. That Telltale is now not putting games on it - only non-Nintendo device to not have them - is a sign that even those that stuck with it are now leaving it to rot.

Rather than worry about it though, just enjoy the games we've got.

Kay, All I look forward next year is Resident Evil Revelations 2 and that's about it.

I agree with @Knux. It will continue, not as a stand alone portable system but as a companion to the PS4.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Well technically they're obviously going to discontinue it someday, so yes, I know for a fact that Sony will discontinue the Vita.

I think it will, the problem with the Vita is that there aren't many ads at least just by itself(no showing ps4). The only time i saw ads was when it first came out, there needs to be more and even if some or most of the games are digital only sony needs to show those.  It would help to show it during big events like football games maybe with Madden on vita and then on shows everything else.  The main problem with it is the advertising and i'm just not seeing enough of it. Sorry if this seems vague :/

I think the Vita is here to stay for a while, it got plenty of support at Playstation Experiance. To me it's looking Sony are now selling it as a companion device to PS4.
Trouble with this is is doesn't feel right for remote play games due to the missing L2 & R2 buttons. I imagine the Vita name will live on just in a different form ( maybe a 8" tablet with a game dock).

There' an 100% for this to occur, every console/handheld is bound to be discontinued at certain point, just like the PS2 and PSP. XD

Now in al seriousness, I think they will deliver a solid 6 years cycle, no need to lose our heads over this, sure they might not support the Vita directly except for few niche games and nice games like Gravity Rush 2 and the whole indie scene but will I still think they won't pull the plug in a while.

Now the real question is if this is going to be Sony's last handheld, but I guess only time will answer that question.

I must say, I enjoy my Vita more than all of my other systems sometimes. There's just something smooth about the interface that I really appreciate, and I think it's an overall exceptional piece of hardware. I'm already looking forward to playing Grim Fandango and Shovel Knight on it. Sure, those games may be coming to other platforms, too - but I think they'll be best on Vita.

Sainsburys had Vita consoles in their Accessories section a few weeks ago, and Game's recent boxing day sale listed them in the same category.

Shame really.

I don't think Sony's helped matters in this regard. I believe the PS Vita Slim has a big sticker on the box that says "PLAY PS4 GAMES ON THE GO" or something like that.

Shovel Knight is already available on the Nintendo E-Shop, but due to their account system I will most likely buy it for my Vita

I just want to see a decent gameplay of Resident Evil Revelations 2 on Vita. If Sony's own studio can pull this off the cheap way then I salute them if not I''ll be as disappointed as the next guy...

I wished the remake of the first Resident Evil was coming to Vita, too. The pre-rendered backdrops would look great on the OLED screen.

The system is doing surprisingly well over in Japan. They seem to be getting some good games released on a monthly basis for it, but over here in the west, it seems to be lacking anything. Stores seem to just push it into a corner with the Wii U collections right beside it. Target and Walmart don't even carry anything for it, and Gamestops just seem to throw it in the back corner hidden away from the naked eye. It's a shame, it is a good system. The PSP was almost the same way, but it had more games for it. Just hope that sony doesn't try to make another handheld, as it seems nintendo owns that area of interest. I do wish that Sony would put all of the Vita and PSP games on their stores to where you can play them on the PS3 or PS4 without the handhelds...that would be a good thing to sell more of the games.
