Hey all,

After i have seen some youtube video about the vita  and read the statement of pachter about the current state of the vita i want to ask you guys what you think.
Is the vita dead or is it doing it's own thing ? Is it going to be something the gamecube was?

For me personally: I think the vita is doing it's own thing. Sony is going to support it with some nice ( but niche) titels like: Freedom wars, killzone mercenary and tear away. I suspect that on gamescom there will be 4 vita game announcements from the first party studios. And it is turning in an indie handheld machine^^

'Maybe in the future some big party support if the fanbase has grown in numbers.

It's on life support, the question is just when Sony will 'officially' pull the plug. As somebody who owned, and really, really enjoyed, the Dreamcast, I know a doomed system when I see it. The Vita is a great piece of hardware and has some awesome games, so I don't regret for a second buying it, but to pretend it's not done is just living in fantasy land and I refuse to do that. There's litterally zero support for it outside of a few Sony first party studios and remote play, while a cool feature, is not a saving grace. Unless Sony decides to drop the price and open up the checkbook for exclusive Monster Hunter, GTA and a quality Call of Duty, this system has absolutely no chance of being around two years from now as anything more than a PS4 accessory. And the truth is, it's possibly too late for even those 3 games I mentioned to save the Vita at this point. Sony screwed the pooch on this one. It did a phenomenal job turning PS3 around after a disastrous start but that was also do in large part to the fact that everybody knew third party support would be there and Sony acted quickly to try and make the system more affordable.

Makes sense, for me im going to live in a dream and wait when the moment hits. I dont want to say goodbye to my vita just yet. Also had a dreamcast... When they stopped production of the dreamcast i was devistated.

Hopefully they drop the price and take the loss. What if sony drops the price by 100$

Don't know how effective a price drop would be at this point. It might help in the short term but the system would still need a steady flow of releases like 3DS gets to maintain any success.

Well now is dead but Sony is trying to make a whole new path for it with all the PS4/Vita compatibility.
Right now Killzone and Tearaway are really close great games but Nintendo will still outperform them with Pokemon X/Y and Monster Hunter 4 in the upcoming months.
Sony is really on a delicate situation right now.

I'm enjoying my Vita more than ever at the moment. It's an interesting topic -- the hardware may not be performing well, but we know that the software is meeting developer and publisher expectations. That's a good sign. We also know that consumers are very happy with the machine, as is evidenced by threads like this.

I can't see Sony pulling the plug -- not this early, anyway. All of the above shows that it has a solid product, it just needs to ensure that more consumers invest in it. Whether that's the Remote Play, a price drop, or better marketing I don't know. I think it's always going to be quite niche at this point, but that doesn't mean it's going to suck or anything. It just means that the market's (sadly) changing.
