Topic: Your Favorite Game Per Console

Posts 1 to 20 of 26

Tasuki

So I actually got this from a Youtuber that I frequently watch and he decided to pick his favorite game from each console starting with the NES and going to the current gen. I thought it would be interesting to see what each other's favorite games are. This is for fun, there is no right or wrong. So here's the "rules"

1) Can be any system home console, handheld, arcade, smartphone etc.
2) One game only per system and no series don't count you must pick your favorite.
3) You can list as many systems as you want, if you played that particular game on it it's fair.

If you want you can post why it's your favorite but if you don't that's ok too.

Sony:

Playstation - Crash Bandicoot (the one great game out of my small PS1 collection. Tough as nails but have never beat it...)
Playstation 2 - Final Fantasy X (while Kingdom Hearts wet my appetite, this was the game that really opened me up to what globetrotting adventures games could be.)
Playstation 3 - InFamous (admittedly don't have much of a PS3 catalogue, and I just got this due to the "Welcome Back" program, but I awefully enjoyed my time with it.)

Nintendo:

NES - Super Mario Bros (I just remember playing this every once in awhile when I was 3 or 4, and barely making it to the first Bowser's Castle, lol.)
SNES - Super Mario World (It's not the best SNES game out there, but it holds tremendous nostalgic value for me as the first game I ever beat, and it still holds up well.)
Gameboy - Pokémon Silver (My childhood. Why Silver? Lugia is much cooler than Ho-Oh.)
N64 - Paper Mario (First RPG I really got into, leading me into KH & FF later on. I actually never owned it, but rented it week after week to beat it, lol.)
GCN - Zelda: Twilight Princess (I was amazed by the E3 trailer for this, and it's what brought me back to Nintendo home consoles. Bought a GCN on the cheap near the end of it's lifespan, borrowed it from a friend, and 100% completed it in a month.)
GBA - Fire Emblem: the Sacred Stones (Bought this in a clearance double pack at Wal-Mart along with some puzzle game. I was blown away by the permadeath feature, and it led to me getting my first Nintendo Power subscription.)
Wii - Super Mario Galaxy (Great game brimming with imagination. When I went to the store to get it they said they were all out, but I noticed one last copy that had fallen behind some other games & got it. They had been turning people away for hours saying they were out.)
DS - Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (the game I picked up with the system. It's astounding how quick, action packed, & responsive it was being a complete stylus controlled game. Made me feel totally bad butt.)
3DS - Tales of the Abyss (When it came to gaming, I just felt like I was going through the motions when I picked it up, but this grand JRPG adventure reignited my love for the medium.)

Other:

Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Sonic & Tails (I played this practically every weekend as I spent the night at my cousin's house. Finally beat it years later in a PS2 collection.)
Xbox 360 - Tales of Vesperia (Played it earlier this year, and honestly don't know if I prefer this or Abyss. Both great games.)
Android - Dragon Quest V (DQIV was my first foray into the series, and while the core gameplay is pretty standard JRPG fair across both games, they both stand out in terms of personality, and their unique narrative approaches. I personally preferred the larger scale adventure this one offered, and the idea of growing up from a kid, finding a wife, and finishing the adventure with your own children was really awesome.)
PC - Age of Empires (never played much on PC, but I used to mess with the world creator in this for hours as a kid.)

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@Tasuki: I know right? But you made the rules! Funnily I played through sor2 in the sor download only 3 pack before binning my x360 earlier this year. Great game, but a bit too shallow for nowadays. As I know everything about sor2 (extra lives, where to stand to nullify enemies attack patterns, frame timing) its become so easy, apart from very hard mode late on were groups swarm you and you spam moves to get out of hazards way. There's just no challenge anymore. I ventured over to sor3, its deeper, tougher and more rewarding tactically. I finished sor3 on hard solo with the good ending for the first time without continues this year as Axel first and Blaze second (Zans too slow, Skate gets battered post corkscrew) and mastered using the special bars. SOR2 will always be my favorite beat em up, but SOR 3 (the pal version I'm talking about here) is so hard to finish, fully completing the game on hard solo with the good ending without continues is more rewarding than any dark souls game. I cant remember why but the pal version of sor3 was loads harder than the JP and NA versions of the game. You can actually swap the version in the menus and the Japanese version is a doddle. So to achieve that, something I never knew I was capable of has really changed my mind about which game is the best in the series.

The MD game I picked was Shining Force 2, a game I've finished multiple times and was my favorite out of all the amazing 16but JRPGs until the ps1 titles. Tough call but then again so was leaving both FF8 and Anna Kournikovas smash court tennis out of my ps1 list and not being able to find a place for Frontier Elite 2 Amiga or Soul Calibur 2 GC!

Damn, then even though I mained Cammy and Guile, I'll have to go for Ultra, Hugo and Decapre were too much fun!
