@get2sammyb:

What about Podcast Beyond!?! The number one podcast for Playstation related news. (cringe)

Yes, on the positive side, Colin and Greg both have a wide amount of knowledge and connections........and tend to keep it Sony centric.

The new Podcast Beyond.......I reckon some forum members here could speak with more insight.

@sub12: I really wanted to give Beyond a chance after Colin and Greg left, but I couldn't get past three or four episodes with the new crew. I feel bad for them, but they simply didn't have any real passion for the platform and it showed.

I'd love to take a look at their metrics. I wonder how many people they've managed to hold on to. I bet downloads of the podcast have dropped by at least 50 per cent - potentially more.

I watch the kinda funny gamecast and ps xoxo.. I also sometimes watch angry joe's reviews and follow thegamersjoint for Kingdom Hearts news

I always listen to PS I love you XOXO in the car, just like I frequently listen to Nintendo Voicechat and Unlocked. Just like Sammy, Beyond doesn't do it for me anymore. It's not so much that I don't feel the love for PS, I can get over that, but with Greg and Colin you know who's going to be the funny one and who's going to be the more serious and cynical one. The problem isn't that WE don't know what the "roles" are at the new Beyond, THEY haven't established them yet themselves; they all try to be the funny one and the show isn't about PS anymore, but about who's the most witty of them all.

On YT I watch PS Acces, and although I like Rob's effort, he just isn't Ben Potter... But at least we get Rob every week (still 4 times Rob doesn't add up to 1 x Ben, doesn't work like that). Furthermore I watch Outside Xbox which is really enjoyable, not in the least because of that gorgeous host Andy. And sometimes I just look at wherever YT brings me: I watch an embedded "Did you know" bit and then I get lured in by the interwebz... Somehow I always end up watching Irish travellers fight though for some reason... Why would YT do such a thing?

Obviously the official channels of the big 3 are a must, after that, pretty much any major website that has a youtube channel, I subscribe to. So, IGN, Gamespot, Giantbomb, Dualshockers, Gametrailers, etc... There's also upupdowndown and kindafunny games.

The only podcasts I listen to consistently are PS I Love You XOXO and Podcast Unlocked. Obviously Colin and Greg have a passion for PlayStation like few others and that gives the show credibility, Colin will also be very critical when needed (Greg is a bit more of a shill but he does bring some comic relief that Colin doesn't provide). Ryan McCaffrey has as much a passion for Xbox as those two do for PlayStation and again, it makes Unlocked a good listen. Beyond has unfortunately gone completely downhill to the point where it as well be cancelled now.

@Gamer83:

Unlocked, Nintendo Voice Chat, and Game Scoop are all decent to good........it's only Beyond that's the outcast. Lots of problems really,........too many people involved for one podcast (3 at most).......too many people trying to throw around bad jokes........the show doesn't have enough of an outline and lacks focus........the passion and knowledge for Playstation isn't there.

@get2sammyb: I think a successful channel mixes up the three, as with Kinda Funny or PlayStation Access. I think involving the community is also something to consider - I'm sure you've watched a few of PS Access' Access Granted videos. They're chock full of comments and suggestions from their viewers, and I think that connection between the presenters and the viewers goes a long way.

@get2sammyb: Honestly I like a combination of the three. Take something like The Angry Video Game Nerd for example, his episodes offer a bit of humor, some opinion and insight as well, it all depends on the presentation. Someone like Happy Console Gamer offers a bit more insight then the other two While Pat the NES Punk offers humor and insight.

Although chose 3 channels offer a good combination of all three some episodes are more insightful then others while some are more humorous.

As far as opinions go, as long as the person is not trying to pass it off as fact that's ok for me.

I only follow AngryJoe and Kindafunny, that's it.

I also llike a combination of the three (humor, opinion, insight) as well.

I usually go to Youtube for humour and printed sources (or whatever you call online sites; typed sources maybe?) for my insight. So if I'm looking for insight I'd visit PushSquare or Eurogamer but I watch PS Access or Outside Xbox for comedy

@get2sammyb: For me, I use youtube for factual information primarily. The only 'opinion' I watch is for game reviews and sometimes these do mix a bit of humour in - like the Angry Joe show reviews. However he also justifies his review with fact. The majority of the channels I watch with any regularity are purely informational - whether that's specific stats of weapons in FPS games, where to find collectibles, how to earn achievements/trophies or just information/game play about up-coming releases that I have a bit of interest in. I don't watch podcasts, lets play, vlogs, discussions etc and I certainly don't tolerate idiots (or those that pretend to be).

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

I mostly go to youtube for entertainment purposes. If I don't care about reviews on websites, why would I care about reviews on youtube? I know that sounds contradictory, but I generally don't take reviews to heart when it comes to what games to buy. That said, while I admit I watch reviews more for entertainment, I'd rather they get their facts right. So being informative, regardless of entertainment value, is crucial to a review. Plus, I do like to know what some people think about some games.

So, in short, all three. When it comes to game reviews, anyway. It's why I recommended SomecallmeJohnny at the start of the thread, as I feel he hits the right notes (Though admittedly, I am slightly disappointed at his latest Metal Gear reviews, because it feels like he's not going into as much detail as he usually does).

I mostly go to YouTube for trivia/facts (top 5s/10s, DYKG?, Culture Shock, etc.).

Not sure what Death Battle counts as, but I like that as well.

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Firstly, apologies in advance, this post is kinda very long. I did put links to them though! Just added some descriptions because why not?

Secondly, you've gotta take a look at these:

The Completionist - exactly how he's described. He completes games and posts weekly reviews. Occasionally he does skits and whatnot as well, look for Pepsi Man in particular.
https://www.youtube.com/user/ThatOneVideoGamer/featured

TatsTopVideos - Does self made videos with narration from a group of friends (who are always looking for more voices if you've an interest!) Best known for their yearly halloween top creepy stuff, though the Top Weather Phenomena ones are a sight to see as well. (There are top gaming stuffs as well, its just not a focus. Though Studiomaker or whatever is often used for making content to cover the topic being narrated on, if there's no normal footage)
https://www.youtube.com/user/CyberGothTatsumaki/featured

TheRunawayGuys - near as I can tell, the name is from the Runaway Five band in earthbound, as I think they found each other doing lets plays of that game near the same time or something (Not familiar with their early history, sorry) The group often does party games, with the current one being Dokapon Kingdom (which, to be honest, may have been discontinued or on hold due to recording opportunities being few and far between) and at the moment they have turn taking single player games going on. Sometimes they have guests of other Youtube friends play with them, and they have a Panel at PAX... East, I think? called thrown controllers.
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheRunawayGuys/videos

Emile - https://www.youtube.com/user/chuggaaconroy/videos
Tim - https://www.youtube.com/user/NintendoCapriSun/videos?view=0&a...
Jon - https://www.youtube.com/user/ProtonJonSA/videos (Someday that Superman 64 playthrough, someday...)

Lucahjin - I found her through the runaway guys above, she is known for blind LPs and her love of fantasies between the mushroom kingdom's male inhabitants. (Hey, she's the one who has those visual novel videos to prove it) She's also been among those who were told to stop playing Huniepop on Twitch, if not the first.
https://www.youtube.com/user/lucahjin/videos?flow=grid&vi...

Superjeenius - Currently playing a blind LP of Final Fantasy 8, he went to Japan and back for school. More of a recent thing to start watching him, so I don't know so much about him.
https://www.youtube.com/user/SuperJeenius/videos?view=0&f...

MasaeAnela - Does the artwork for, well, at least Emile of the Runaway guys, and her own LPs too. She just started Kirby Mass Attack and recently finished DK Tropical Freeze. Also had some videos with Emile and at one point her mom. You won't really notice it too much, but she doesn't use vulgar language on recording very often, and, as far as I can tell, never in her own videos.
https://www.youtube.com/user/MasaeAnela/videos

These guys below (Through ChilledChaos anyways) all kinda have similar formats, basically solo game runs or group game 'funny moments' and rounds. I'll note some interesting and key differences of course.

Vanoss - Pretty much only does funny moments videos of him and his friends, though they are well done because of it. He was involved in Dead Realm's development somehow if I recall. Also, What do you call a magic owl? 'Hoodini.' That started with this guy.
https://www.youtube.com/user/VanossGaming/videos

Delirious - The clown who wears the Jason mask (Yes, I know its a generic hockey goalie mask) does solo and group videos. His solo ones tend to run long, 30 min-1 hour, and his group ones much shorter. (but thats in part because he's working on his editing stuff in gmod and I think studiomaker or whatever it is I keep misnaming) Precious few have seen his actual real life face...
https://www.youtube.com/user/H2ODelirious/videos

Cartoonz - ...with one of those precious few, for instance, often doing coop videos with him. Its been awhile since I watched recent videos of his, so I can't offer much on what hes doing now, other than Far Cry Primal.
https://www.youtube.com/user/CaRt0oNz/videos

MiniLaddd - Spent the last year living in LA, moved back to the UK, vows that on his next visit/possible perma move to America that he will take the CocaCola curtains with him. Also does Q&A videos, which often involve him being a goofball on camera.
https://www.youtube.com/user/MiniLaddd/videos

Terroriser - Found by Vanoss when he made a video taunting an opponent in a Call of Duty match by singing an impromptu song (I think it was an ode or a ballad) he's had a year of traveling around as well. From Ireland. Recently had a voice acting role in a game (that he's got a video of up just recently!) and known for his, well, lately bemoaned one trick- He can do a really good, or at least hilarious, Schwarzenegger voice. (I mean, he also does a good Bane from the Dark Knight Rises, but nobody asks for that outside Halloween...)
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheGamingTerroriser/videos

Nogla - He also spent some time in California last year, now he's back in Ireland. Would make a good Zoidberg replacement. He seems really easy to rile up, despite his calm outer shell.
https://www.youtube.com/user/DaithiDeNogla/videos

Max - Tends to do unedited full round videos, mostly stuff you'd have on as white noise. Has a series that I can't seem to find replicated well at all anywhere else and he called it Gmod Art Gallery or something like that. There was a recent one within the last month or two though. Its where you use the creation tools in Gmod and create art, with the limits being two words, one from each buddy/critic/commentator that the art needs to focus around. Sounds weird but it works well.
https://www.youtube.com/user/GassyMexican/videos

Minx - Another Faceless one, she does group Gmod stuff and playthroughs of almost exclusively horror games. Has a few other series though, one called Weeb Wednesdays (random stuff from Japan, if I recall correctly), SoS (literally Shit on Steam, random cheap games she and a buddy named Sinow can laugh over) and a series where she and a buddy named ManlyBadassHero play through visual novels, often to reach whatever naughtiness is hidden within. Recently, she's started playing with viewers who request to do so, should that be a requested reward in her donation thing she's got on gamewisp.
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheRPGMinx/videos

Ze - Very upbeat, its kinda difficult to keep him mad for long. Likes to be scientific in his solo stuff (what would happen to the earth if just threw all the moons at it? -Universe Sandbox), and always tries to explain his actions (read: mistakes) to the group in group playthroughs. Can be surprisingly sneaky during some moments as well, which, to be honest, you kinda need to be in a game like Town of Salem.
https://www.youtube.com/user/ZeMachinima/videos

The Great Chilled Chaos - Chilled likes to make stories of everything, think like Max above but with more editing to keep the flow going. Tends to talk about modern topics, often to make fun of politicians, while playing, though they keep it lighthearted where possible.
https://www.youtube.com/user/CriousGamers/videos

Jack - Known for doing 2 videos a day for several years, with almost no known missed days. Does mostly solo stuff on new and early access games to show off new stuff. Very upbeat and LOUD though known to rant a little outside of that, he should have something to interest almost anyone, just turn down the volume until you've acclimated your ears to him. (Seriously, do not, under any circumstances, let your first video watching of his be a Happy Wheels episode at full volume, you WILL go deaf)
https://www.youtube.com/user/jacksepticeye/videos

Princeboo - He does let's plays on a lot of different games. As far as I know, he is the only one to have a full playthrough of Tales of Legendia anywhere online, and has done most Tales of games up through 360's Vesperia. Prefers to have his commentary like he's talking to you in the same room while you watch him, if that makes any sense. Recently started to stream and found out most of his Twitch viewers are in the UK, despite him living in the US. Has exactly one video with a facecam, somewhere in his Penumbra playthrough.
https://www.youtube.com/user/PrinceBoo21/videos

Cinema Sins - the original format came from here if you've seen any videos like them. Tends to try and follow a few basic rules while also having some channel (and thus format) specific jokes. Also, 'You've gotta take a look at this cliche. Ding!' (Read the start of this post)
https://www.youtube.com/user/CinemaSins/videos

Edit/Addition: Critical - Mostly known for his monotone-yet-emotionally-charged voice, he mostly does a solo version of Minx's SoS, except with worse games. Also has a few videos of 'The Real ____' that are commercials where he re-dubbed the thing with his own lines and, of course, voice. Sometimes does commentary/re-dubbing of terrible movies made in other countries, such as that Turkish Star Wars movie he recently got ahold of.
https://www.youtube.com/user/penguinz0/videos

There are others, but most have been mentioned here or I simply haven't watched them lately. Apologies again for the really long post.
