Topic: What games do you think will be remastered on PS5?

The PS3 had some re-releases of PS2 titles such as Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider series and Final Fantasy X/X-2. The PS4 had remasters of PS3 titles such as the Batman Arkham games, The Last of Us and Uncharted. On top of that, the PS2 titles in the Kingdom Hearts series and Final Fantasy X/X-2 got another remaster on PS4. What games do you think will be remastered on PS5? Will the older Kingdom Hearts games and FF X/X-2 likely to be re-released again on PS5 (Since the PS4 games are backward compatible I would say probably not)?

Well Spider-Man has set a dangerous precedent for reselling us games from last-gen despite BC. I’d expect to see less remasters than last-gen but still a few, especially games that have RTX versions on PC. I think yet another KH collection would be a step too far for most people, I own the games 3 times like a sucker!

I also bought the Kingdom Hearts games for each Playstation console. I don’t think they will be released again on PS5. The reason they were re-released on PS3 and PS4 is because the newer PS3 consoles don’t play PS2 games and PS4 systems don’t play PS3 or PS2 games. The PS4 re-release will play on PS5. I do want to see 358/2 Days get a remaster on PS5 though.

I really hope Spider-Man doesn't encourage future "remasters" of last gen games on a console that can play last gen games. As much as I want to see Bloodborne at 60fps with decent texture filtering, I'd rather have it in the form of a Game Boost optimized patch like what's happening with Ghost of Tsushima and not another remaster.

@nessisonett I don't see another Kingdom Hearts re-release considering Story so Far on PS4 is pretty definitive of a collection to begin with and the PS5 will obviously play that day one, in addition to Xbox players now having access to the entire series through the re-releases of the I.5/II.5/2.8 collections. The only re-release I'll accept at this point is a port of the KH Collections or Story so Far to Steam given how many legacy titles are available from Square on that platform including every major numbered FF entry

Agreed, there’s no need for remasters of PS4 games. There are some PS2 and PS3 games I would like remastered on PS5 though. I would like Portal 1 and 2, Batman Arkham Origins, Tomb Raider trilogy (PS2) and some of the licensed games such as Simpsons Road Rage and the PS2 era 007 games.

I hope a Persona 3 remake can be done. We all saw how Persona 5 was a perfect mix of style and gameplay. It was a great game and having that kind of treatment for the one that started the modern JRPG will be dope. It needs some quality of life changes which will be awesome to see.

If this happens, I hope they remake the portable version of P3, it had some interesting additions.

The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.

Persona 1/2 are way more deserving of the remake treatment IMO. The only real glaring issues I have with Persona 3 are that Tartarus becomes a drag to explore after 10 or so floors, and in the case of the PS2 versions, the anime cutscenes have aged considerably worse compared to Persona 4 vanilla, let alone Golden or Persona 5. Had Portable not addressed like 90% of the other issues like controllable party members, the ability to guard, getting 1 Mores after Criticals and Social Links no longer breaking after an extended period of not seeing a particular person, I would've been more open to a from the ground up remake, but now I'd be perfectly content with a remaster that cleans up the visuals like SMT3 HD Remaster and combines both the presentation and free roam elements of FES with The Answer and the QoL improvements to the battle system and time management gameplay from Portable in addition to FeMC, whether it be on PS5 or Steam like Persona 4 Golden.

P1/2 are way more deserving of proper, from the ground up remakes because they could totally use more exposure after how big the series has become as a result of Persona 5 doing well. They may not have SL or any sim elements, but Persona 2 in particular was a major influence for Persona 5 in a lot of areas, and there are way more things that can be addressed with the older entries such as proper voice acting for Persona 2 outside boss intros, fixing the jank battle system in Persona 1, remastering the Revelations soundtrack since it's way better than the PSP version, and making the Negotiation system not feel as scripted and linear as it was in those games compared to Persona 5.

@TheFrenchiestFry I dunno, Persona 1 is just incredibly dated even from a structure and plot standpoint. I think 2 would be the most deserving of a remake because if you fixed most things wrong with 1 then you’d end up with a different game.

Oh, sorry guys. I posted with my second account again.

Kidding, of course. I just find it remarkable that @Don basically has the same wishlist as me (the pair of Portal games I snipped out notwithstanding)!

Excellent taste!

Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

It's been like 11 years since the original HD remaster. Put it on everything, Switch, PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series consoles and PC with better online netcode, a remastered soundtrack and general presentation tweaks. The existence of the new Marvel vs. Capcom arcade cabinet with stuff like X-Men vs. Street Fighter and The Punisher arcade game proves Marvel and Capcom are anything but on bad terms and are still open to working together. In the chance that they actually make a new Marvel vs. Capcom game, they should bring back MvC2 like they did UMvC3 when Infinite was announced.
