Topic: The Gig/Live Music Thread

Seeing as how live music, concerts etc are a whole different beast, I thought I’d start a thread. Anyone got tickets booked for 2020? Personally I have tickets for Big Thief and Hannah Diamond at the start of March. I would have got Nier concert tickets but they’re basically gold dust.

I have tickets to go see Avril Lavigne in Amsterdam in March! Incredibly excited. Now to just get a second person to come along with me....

Nier are doing a concert in London so a train from Glasgow would have been perfectly doable. At least the gig scene in Glasgow is great, way better than Edinburgh.

@nessisonett Jealous of you seeing Big Thief. They're all sold out in my country. And they're so amazingly good (live especially). I will probably visit a festival over the summer to still be able to see them. Have fun there!

Some concerts I have planned: Angel Olsen, DIIV, Bon Iver, Destroyer, Damon Albarn.

I got my tickets for Paul McCartney, that's all I have currently planned so far. But I'm also planning to visit some festivals this year.

@Kidfried That's awesome. I got to see Damon Albarn last year on his Merrie Land tour, absolutely brilliant!

@Kidfried I wish the festivals at my bit were any good. The hilariously titled TRNSMT is basically Oasis-core with random bursts of grime. The summer sessions at Bellahouston this year are Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer, three bands I would have seen 20 years ago but not now. A bit of a step down from last year, which was The Cure and Foo Fighters.

I’m off to see Explosions in the Sky in feb, not exactly a big fan but listened to them occasionally for years now and wanted something to do around my birthday and its in Hammersmith. so close. First time I went to the Apollo I saw Sigur Ros back in 2004 so will be nice to see another post rock (if you like) band at the same venue 16 years later!

@Octane Yea, I was at the good the bad and the queen gig too! It was brilliant. So sad that they split!

He is the one that got me into pop music into the first place.

@nessisonett Wow, T in the Park used to be cool, didn't it? Line up of this year is... not great so far

@Kidfried T in the Park played host to some seriously great people over the years. I was too young to properly go when it was in its heyday but my uncle used to tell stories since he performed there in 2009, which a Google search shows an insane number of recognisable names that year. Even on the stage he was on, The Twilight Sad and Young Fathers have both gone on to do great things so it’s mad the organisers have let things go so badly.

@Kidfried That's also what he said after their first tour. So I'm certain that they'll come back if they have enough material for a new album!

@nessisonett I went to T in the Park 2014, the last year it was based at the original site. Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris, and Arctic Monkeys headlined with it being the first festival I’d ever been to.

Great experience it was, the very first band I saw across the weekend ended up with me being punched in the face in a mosh pit. Great stuff.

Just got tickets to see Otoboke Beaver who I had no idea were coming to Glasgow until I saw their tour dates inside the Itekoma Hits vinyl I got delivered. Loud, heavy noise rock a bit like Shonen Knife and should be great fun.

@kyleforrester87 Nice. Explosions aren’t my favourite post rock band but I’m sure they’d be good live. Sigur Ros are very high up on the list of bands I’d like to see.

kyleforrester87

@Thrillho yeah to be honest I have always found them a bit boring, I’m sure they will be entertaining live though. I wouldn’t go see Sigur Ros these days if I’m honest but they were awesome.

I would love to see Mono, try The Kidnapper Bell by them.

@Octane I’m also going to see Paul McCartney in June, here in Belgium. The organisation of the popular Rock Werchter festival is behind this. Last year they invited Fleetwood Mac, which was glorious!

I'm going to see Nerija in a couple of weeks. Nubya Garcia rocks and the rest of the band sound amazing too.

Well... upsettingly my Avril Lavigne live gig that was coming up on the 20th has now also been canceled thanks to the coronavirus. It's a real damn shame, because I don't go to live gigs often and this was one I had really been looking forward to. It doesn't look like there'll be a new date either, just a flat out cancellation. Better luck next time, I guess.
