@RogerRoger It's hard not to award points for that answer!

I have scored all your answers, but seeing it's still Sunday in the US, I'll wait until tomorrow afternoon to post the results.

I'll also pick next week's quizmaster then. I kind of forgot about that, and really need my sleep right now.

Kidfried

Good news, everyone made the top 5. Now who won?

@RogerRoger 38
@Ralizah 32
@Mookysam 23
@Gremio108 16
@Th3solution 10

ANSWERS

1) Sackboy appeared as an Easter egg in Uncharted 3 and The Order 1886.

2) "Supersonic Ring Store" is a jewelry shop in GTA5

3) I think no one got this one: Morgan Freeman owns Freeman Taco's in the latest South Park game.

4) Apparently the easiest question of the bunch. Clover made God Hand, Okami, Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2.

5) Only in Oddworld, Rayman and Jumping Flash can you not play as a human character.

6) Red is from Transistor
7) Quill is from Moss
8) Frisk is from Undertale
9) Madeline is from Celeste
10) Otus is from Owlboy

NEXT WEEK
@beemo Would you be up for making the quiz this week or shall I pass the torch to someone else?

The Tyrant has retaken his throne.

Kidfried

Kidfried

@beemo That's fine of course.

Looking at the participants this week then, @Ralizah, are you up?

@Kidfried Thanks for this week's quiz! I need to play some more indie games. Have you played Owlboy and Celeste?

Well, I did hold first place for a short time.
I’m like that guy in the 1600 meter race that has the fastest 100 meter time and then quickly falls behind into dead last until he is literally limping to the finish line several minutes after the last runner and the crowd claps encouragement while whispering to each other wondering what his problem is.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Kidfried

@Ralizah Thanks! Really looking forward to what you're coming up with!

@mookysam I finished Celeste on some hybrid console. I might have rather played it on PS4, because I find the analog stick on the joycon terrible, but it is what it is. The game is a lot of fun to play, although I wouldn't have given it a perfect score myself. Towerfall is still the better game!

Haven't played Owlboy yet. The game's art design is breathtaking though. And I chose Otus as a question, because I figured that was a name that people that haven't played the game might connect to the game as well.

What's your most recent indie game? (Mine was Burly Men At Sea, not a must-play though)

@Th3solution Just know that I'm proud of you, no matter what place you finish in!

Kidfried

Gremio108

Can't believe I got Viewtiful Joe, but didn't get Viewtiful Joe 2! I just kind of forgot it was a thing

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@Kidfried Thanks, man! Lol - It’s a testament of my self-confidence [misplaced as it may be] that I keep coming back each week to finish last. 😂. It was a great quiz and fun to attempt anyways.

In all seriousness, genuine thanks for yet another diverse and interesting quiz, @Kidfried (it's why I love playing each week, seeing all the different ways people present questions).

@Th3solution You haven't always been last! And it wouldn't be the same without you.

Here's to Friday!

@Kidfried Had to look through my trophy list because of brain fog. The last one I played was Steamworld Dig 2, which was very enjoyable. I'm pleased I've played a lot more indie games this year than I did last and now have a big list of games to get. Hopefully I can get time to play some more once I'm done with Red Dead Redemption, or perhaps in between to break things up a bit. One of my most anticipated games actually is Bloodstained. You like Metroidvanias don't you?

Celeste does look very good, but also challenging, which has me umming and ahhing a bit over whether to get it.

Ralizah

Hi. Welcome to my second quiz. I changed things up a bit to hopefully make it more accessible than the first one was. There are 40 points possible.

.
.
.

1) By order of release, the second, third, and fourth Professor Layton games have somewhat different English-language titles between regions. For each game, name the U.S. and European titles that they released under.
To be clear, these are the second and third games in the first trilogy and the first game in the second trilogy.

(One point for each title; six points possible)

~

2) In Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus, which first released on the PS Vita in 2013, four groups of female shinobi battle eachother over the course of the game. Three are associated with schools, and one has formed into a mercenary strike team. Name the four groups of shinobi.

(One point for each correct answer; four points possible)

~

3) 2003 was a good year for the survival horror genre on the PS2, seeing the release of Siren (or "Forbidden Siren" in the Old World), Silent Hill 3, Resident Evil Outbreak, and Fatal Frame 2. What order did these games release in? I'm going to order these by the date they first released anywhere in the world, which usually means the Japanese release date.

(One point for each correct placement; four points possible)

~

4) I will list a series of horror games that have released on Playstation consoles and the various names of villains within those games. Simply match each of the baddies to the correct game.

(One point per successful match; six points possible)

Clock Tower
Corpse Party
Resident Evil
Silent Hill
Rule of Rose
Haunting Grounds

Wendy
Albert Wesker
Aureolus Lorenzo Belli
Scissorman
Claudia Wolf
Sachiko Shinozaki

~

5) One thing many of us love about the JRPG genre is the often central focus it places on music. So, kind of like the 'match the baddie' question earlier, I'm going to list lyrics from various JRPG songs, and I want you to match those lyrics to the games they come from.

(One point per successful match; seven points possible)

A.
"In the dark, unable to see/
I stood tall and dared to dream/
To find the answer, just one answer/
And the truth will lead us as one"

B.
"Among the mist I see a stretching path/
Reaches out so far, beyond what I can see/
How far would I be walking 'til I reach the end/
The end of the path that's to be seen?"

C.
"The moon filled with night as it flowed through your heart/
Such faraway reflections/
Stars, ripe like tears, like fruit falls from a tree/
I wipe my dreams off the nighttime"

D.
"Like a proud wolf alone in the dark/
With eyes that watch the world/
And my name like a shadow/
On the face of the moon "

E.
"And as time comes to a halt/
Silence starts to overflow/
My cries are inconspicuous/
Tell me God, are you punishing me?"

F.
"We can go high enough and glide/
All over the world to find our own lives/
Come to the dance with the firebird tonight/
Tonight it's ride or die"

G.
"When I was alone as one/
My heart was as ice, so cold/
Wind whispering sweet melodies/
I could not behold"
.
.
.
NieR: Automata
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Xenogears
Wild ARMs 3
Final Fantasy X

~

6) Here are some notable video game quotes. Fill in the missing word or words in each quote.

(One point each; three points possible)

A) "______ is the magic that turns dreams into reality"

B) "_________ means nothing on the battlefield."

C) "You’ve met with ________, haven’t you?”

~

BONUS:
In every Ace Attorney game, you're playing as a defense attorney who is almost always representing a client who has been falsely accused of murder. Over the course of a given case, you'll uncover the true culprit of a given crime.
List the full name of each culprit in the original Ace Attorney's five cases. Additionally, one of the cases has two different culprits, so I'll split the points awarded for that question between the two names. So that should be six names in total.

(Two points each; ten points possible)

I’ll be happy just to register a point or two...

1) I can’t say that I know a single thing about the Professor Layton games, but I’ll take a crack at it. The game titles were:
U.S. — Professor Layton Strikes Back, The Return of the Prof, and the well received fourth installment The Layton Menace
Europe — From Russia with Layton, Casino Battle Royale, and who could forget On Her Majesty’s Secret Professorship

2)The four shinobi groups in Senran Kagura? I don’t have any idea. But again, I don’t mind venturing a guess. 3 schools and a mercenary strike team... okay —
Harvard, Cambridge, Yale, and.... Trinity?

3) I’ll say — Fatal Frame 2, Siren, RE Outbreak, then Silent Hill 3

4) Man, my lack of experience with horror games is not helping me this week —

Clock Tower - Scissorman
Corpse Party - Sachiko Shinozaki
Resident Evil - Albert Wesker
Silent Hill - Wendy
Rule of Rose - Aureolus Lorenzo Belli
Haunting Grounds - Claudia Wolf

5) Some of these lyrics are lovely. I haven’t played most of these games though —
A.Xenogears
B.Wild ARMs 3
C. Final Fantasy X
D. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
E. NieR Automata
F. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
G. Xenoblade Chronicles X

6A) " Diligence is the magic that turns dreams into reality"
B) " Birthright means nothing on the battlefield."
C) "You’ve met with your therapist, haven’t you?”

BONUS: Why have I not played any of the Ace Attorney games? It’s a void in my life
Case 1: Jack the Ripper
Case 2: Charles Manson
Case 3: Bonnie and Clyde
Case 4: Billy the Kid
Case 5: Nathan Drake

Thanks for the quiz! I like matching questions.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

RogerRoger

@Ralizah Um... right, okay, I think @Th3solution won't be last this week!

1) Couldn't tell you what the US titles are, and I'm guessing from vague memory with the European ones; I'll go with Pandora's Box, Spectre's Call and Miracle Mask.

2) You what?! Okay, the three groups of shinobi associated with schools are called Hufflepuff, Aldershot Girls Grammar and Bayside High (from Saved by the Bell) and the mercenary group one is called Shoreline.

3) I'll randomly go for Resident Evil Outbreak, Silent Hill 3, Fatal Frame 2 and then Siren.

4) Albert Wesker goes with Resident Evil, and... darn it. I'll say Scissorman goes with Rule of Rose because he'd be good at pruning roses, so that's obviously the "Rule of Rose". Aureolus Lorenzo Belli goes with Clock Tower because all good clock towers have a bell in them, and I'm grasping. Wendy for Silent Hill, perhaps? Who does that leave... okay, Claudia Wolf for Corpse Party and then whoever's left goes with the other one.

5) Lyrics A go with NieR: Automata because I've seen one of the characters from that game wearing what looks like a blindfold, so "In the dark, unable to see" makes sense (in my head, anyway). Lyrics D mention the moon, so I'll put them with Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete... hang on, so do Lyrics C... nah, heck with it, stick with Lyrics D. So that puts Lyrics C with Wild ARMs 3 because C is the third letter of the alphabet. By that logic, Lyrics F go with Final Fantasy X, for F's sake. That just leaves all the Xeno-type games, which is great because all the remaining letters (B, E and G) rhyme, and that's the best connection you're gonna get out of me! So, Lyrics G go with Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Lyrics B with Xenoblade Chronicles X and Lyrics E go with Xenogears.

6) The quotes are as follows:
a) "This brownie I got in Amsterdam is the magic that turns dreams into reality."
b) I know this one!! "A name means nothing on the battlefield."
c) "You've met with your counsellor after the trauma of attempting this quiz, RogerRoger, haven't you?"

Bonus Question:
Case 1's culprit was Phoenix Wright's hairgel supplier.
Case 2's culprit was the Objectinator, who objected to objections.
Case 3's culprit was Donald Trump (who settled out of court, but still maintains that Phoenix Wright was a "loser").
Case 4's culprits were the nefarious Cheeky Girls.
Case 5's culprit was Bowser.

You and I play very, VERY different games!

But that's awesome, and the whole point of having a rotating quizmaster. Thanks for the questions; they were obviously tough to me, but were well-formed and thought out. I too loved the matching questions.

The very best of luck to everybody else giving this a go!

@RogerRoger Lol, I don’t know. We’re all in a similar situation I think. I knew a couple but it may come down to blind luck on guessing the matching questions. And I think I’m i trouble by not having a clue on the first question. I liked the @Kidfried analysis of “% guessed” 😆

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

RogerRoger

@Kidfried You're most welcome.

@Th3solution We gave it our honourable best shots. I wonder which of us will be more lucky with our guesswork, though? I reckon you're due a break!
