@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Whoops. That's what I get for taking so long to write my post. 😂 That Rule of Rose cover is brilliant. Great pick!

@Th3solution Thanks for the tag. I don't believe for a second that you'll encounter any difficulty handling this extraordinary undertaking (even moreso after reading your well-conceived plan) but should you require assistance with anything, at any stage, please do let me know. I'd be more than happy to help.

Here are my submissions. I consider the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable part of the sixth console generation. If you feel as though they shouldn't count, then please discard them.

***

1. See You in Hell: Blasting to the top of the PC pile, this evocative bloodbath from DOOM tells you everything you need to know.

2. New Balls, Please: It may be hiding a truly mediocre game, but this Japanese box art for Sonic Spinball would've sold me on it regardless.

3. It Moves Us All: The first of two examples celebrating mid-90s minimalism, The Lion King arrived on MegaDrive with surprising subtlety.

4. Words Come Later: From the era of the brand comes Sonic & Knuckles, with a new playable character and its unique lock-on cartridge effortlessly conveyed.

5. Double Dutch (Angle): Just like the film itself, this cover for PSone brawler Batman Forever is determined to put a new slant on things.

6. Pick a Lane: The beautiful simplicity of what us PAL folks saw when reaching for a copy of Driver is matched only by the laziness of its NTSC counterpart.

7. Hid3 Your Numb3rs: This EU and Japanese cover for Wip3out had to be redesigned for US audiences, who reportedly couldn't find the three.

8. There is No Tomb: I guess Lara took the red pill, as the North American cover for 2000's Tomb Raider Chronicles cashes in with an exciting pop culture reference.

9. Just a Light Headache: I've played a demo of Incredible Crisis and looked up its gameplay online, and I still couldn't even begin to explain this delightful curio.

10. Whipped Into Shape: The stunning artwork of Drew Struzan leaps from silver screens to smaller ones, in an effort to sell you this N64 copy of Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine.

11. Man of Mystery: If you lack the licence to a celebrity's face, you can still make a killing, as this cinematic cover for James Bond 007 in... Agent Under Fire proved.

12. On a Roll: There's no way to effectively convey Katamari's simple-yet-surreal concept in a single image, but We Love Katamari comes adorably close.

13. Unlucky for Some: Despite admiring variants of this cult classic cel-shaded shooter's cover for many moons, I've still yet to play XIII (Thirteen).

14. Ac!d Trip: This may be blasphemy to some but, for my money, portable spin-off Metal Gear Ac!d 2 has the greatest-looking cover from its venerable franchise.

15. Roarsome: Couldn't even begin to tell you what type of game this even is, but Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story caught my eye with its charming humour.

Honourable mentions to @nessisonett for submitting Katamari Damacy and likewise, @WanderingBullet for putting forward Vagrant Story. Those were on my shortlist, and I felt relieved seeing them here already. You both made my deliberations slightly easier, so I'm grateful, thank you!

I also could've swapped out Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story for the Paper Mario N64 cover, but my love of minimalism and an involuntary giggle won the day.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy I see... Should I swap it with another cover then? I have quite a few more.

@RogerRoger Never played Vagrant Story before but I've always liked that artwork. I also had Katamari Damacy on my shortlist.

@FullbringIchigo Sorry about that. My bad. Not being a Nintendo gamer myself, I didn’t realize the WiiU is actually still in the current gen., along with Switch.

I have corrected the initial post of the rules to reflect that the Wii is actually in the same generation as the PS3, and company.

The main difference is that now Wii games are no longer considered in our “Retro” category. They are to be considered in the next round of “Modern and non-PC games”

My categories are somewhat arbitrary, but I do think that needs to be corrected. Thanks!

FullbringIchigo

@Th3solution yeah it gets confusing because they all release at different times and especially with the Switch, as it's not a console or a handheld but a mix of both so i think it's hard to classify what gen it is hence why they put it in this gen along with the Wii U

@Th3solution I will post my favourites tonight when I get some time. Great introduction very professional.

Are we considering the DS and PSP part of the sixth or seventh generation @Th3solution? I have a few to share but am unsure what round to post in.

nessisonett

@mookysam Yeah, I just avoided DS and PSP for that reason but others have posted so I’m not sure.

@WanderingBullet As far as the round 2 submissions, let’s hold off for now. We have a submission period for round 2 after voting for round 1 is complete. But if your question is regarding steelbook — yes, by all means - steelbook art is definitely eligible for inclusion.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Thanks for tracking the submissions Foxy and pointing out duplicates. Yes, if @mookysam and @Wanderingbullet want to replace those dup. with another title, that’s fine with me.

@nessisonett @RogerRoger
And as for handhelds — I think let’s consider Nintendo DS and PSP as part of the 6th generation, so are eligible for this round. Vita and Switch games will be included in round 2. I know the DS and PSP released on the edge of the start of the 7th generation, but for ease of administration, I’m going to consider them round 1, “Retro” material. I know it could be debated, but this makes sense to me.
If people omitted DS and PSP games because of this confusion, then you can start submitting them in your next entries tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up guys! Appreciate the engagement!

@BearsEatBeets For some reason we’re getting a 403 error on your 3rd entry, my friend. See if you can find another link. I love the other submissions though.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Yeah, I was noticing in my own surfing for covers that disc art can be pretty awesome. I guess we’ll keep it in the back of our minds for a supplemental round maybe.

@BearsEatBeets Perfect. That one works fine.

Alright, Push Squires and Squirettes, the Box Art Poll is well underway. Thanks for the many excellent submissions so far. We are pushing close to 70 already in this round “PC games and Retro games”

You can view all cover art submitted so far here:

https://ibb.co/album/cub9GF

And, silly me, I didn’t realize the Push Square site would actually organize the pictures for us automatically, so you have probably noticed that if you click on one of the image links then it brings up that pic and also the ability to scroll through all the pics that have been linked on that page without having to exit and click each one separately. I didn’t know the site did this automatically, but I’ll still try to load all entries to imgbb if you prefer that method of viewing them. Hopefully I haven’t omitted any by accident.

There are some absolutely fantastic entries so far and I have my early favorites. We’ll keep the polls open for more nominations for approximately 3-4 more days, or until we crash the site, whichever comes first. 😜

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (GBA/NA)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts:Chain_of_Memories#/media/File%3AKingdomHeartsCoMCover.jpg
It's hard to tell in a still image, but it had holographic elements, which is very cool.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 (PS2/NA)
https://www.amazon.com/Dragonball-Z-Budokai-2-GameCube/dp/B00...
Again, the background, which appears grey here, is actually that awesome shiny holographic effect.

Kingdom Hearts II (PS2/NA)
https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts_II?file=Kingdom...
By this point I'm sure you can guess what's so special about that seemingly plain background

BTW, where does 3DS stand? I'd assume alongside Vita as modern gen?

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Th3solution

@RR529 Yes, 3DS game covers will be considered modern gen / round 2, like Vita.

I got your entries loaded in the album, but they aren’t working when you click them here, except for the second one. I think it’s because the link is to the site and not the actual image. But make sure these are the correct three:

Well done on getting them all in that one gallery @Th3solution!

Did a little look through and Okami Jp was put in twice or repeated in the weirdest place...

And my klonoa box art seemingly didn't work? Other then that, everything seems to be working great
