I see resolutions as setting yourself up for failure - especially as there is little/no consequence for failing.

That's true but I get around this by telling my wife to kick me in the goolies if I miss any of my resolutions. I'm determind that this February, I'll be able to sit down comfortably without an ice pack

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@booshy89 Ooops - I may have just bought Overwatch and Lego Harry Potter. A bit of a failure towards my first resolution but (as with all buys like this), I have an excuse.

Lego Harry Potter is one for me and my wife to play.
Overwatch is something I've been resisting buying for ages and, now it's on deal of the week, I've finally thought it's time.

My resolutions and results;

1) To play through P4G

16 hours in - yay

2) Buy a 32gb / 64gb memory card for the vita

Fail - but man those crazy prices

3) Restart Tuesday Night Gaming with the Pushsquare clan, hopefully on Titan Fall 2.

Again a pass with the help of the Pushsquare titanfall community

Not bad!

@kyleforrester87 super unlikely bro unfortunately. This could possibly be the last 12-18 months were I game as much. The last few years I have been fortunate with the wife being pregnant, then having the baby and we have been at a weird point financially having to renovate the house but more than enough to game. So sitting off with the latest games has been fun and has saved us cash in the long run.

My daughters getting older, my boys too. The house needs a new door (just bought) and a bathroom, so I'm more likely to buy a suitable PC this time next year and a couple of expensive music licenses and do that instead, and do family stuff in my spare time. I cant commit enough time to Destiny I'm afraid.

That said you will find me on mass effect, wipeout, gran Turismo, Tekken 7 and of course sonic mania later this year! And yes you best be on the multiplayer!

@themcnoisy That's a shame but fair enough. I can't see me being able to leave gaming behind but I imagine my circumstances will change enough in the future to stop me being able to plough so many hours into the end game of something like Destiny.. but I'd always find time for a campaign haha.

I don't have kids and my girlfriend is very..understanding haha.

@kyleforrester87 my wife's fine with gaming.... Up to a point. But getting chastised for trying to level my social links in persona when I haven't taken the time to visit my real friends, is actually a good point.

1) Probably the most obvious, increase my Final Fantasy collection of video games and try to complete all the ones in the mainline series before 2017 is over (except the MMOs and XII I will be able to buy remastered on PS4 next year, which is perfect timing).

2) Start getting into more JRPG series, more specifically Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts and Fire Emblem. The goal is to play through the majority of the games in the mainline series of these franchises. Also just play more JRPGs in general.

3) Buy a PS2 and/or a PSP and buy more Final Fantasy games for them (lol) or just start collecting more for these systems in general.

And just like with any new years resolutions, I have barely managed to fulfil any of the ones I've set for myself. 1) I think I've somewhat fulfilled it before the year was over, but I'm still missing some FFs that I want to have in my collection. 2) I've actually managed to fulfil somewhat, not with those franchises though but with others. I am though starting to play more Fire Emblem, which I'm glad that I'm doing because it's a great franchise. And 3) I don't really care about that one anymore, lol.

Fail - but man those crazy prices. I did buy a PS Vita TV and have played the games I wanted to the most so a fail and win at the same time!

3) Restart Tuesday Night Gaming with the Pushsquare clan, hopefully on Titan Fall 2.

Completed! But back to Rocket League it is. Happy new year...

My resolutions update

1: Make a bigger dent in my backlog
I've made a small dent but I've been so busy with college and work that I just haven't had the time to really get through it. I have held off buying many new games this year, only picking up Horizon and a couple of couch multiplayer games for my gf.
2: Use my Vita/3ds more
Definitely been achieving this seeing as I was travelling a good bit plus my ps4 broke and I was without one for a month. Managed to finish a couple of backlogged games on my Vita
3: Replay Witcher 3 and Dark Souls 3
This has not happened and is very unlikely to happen, a surprise for no one on this thread I'm sure!! I did start a new playthrough of the Witcher on the highest difficulty and really am intent on playing through it again but I've put about 2 hours into it so far. Life is just too busy. I'm abandoning any plan to replay Dark Souls 3 even though I'd like to play the dlc

The problem with backlogs is they keep getting bigger.

@themcnoisy I'm trying to stick to a new principle of only buying a game when I finish a game, I'm holding of on the Sexy Brutale until I finish either Tales from Borderlands or Horizon. Similarly I'm holding off Persona 5 till Horizon is finished. I'd like DiRT 4 but I want to play through more Driveclub first. Just hope I stick to it.....

1) Play Disgaea 5
Owned the CE since October 2015, didn't get a PS4 till May 2016.

Nope. Thought about getting on with it during the summer-lull period, but I've instead been playing KH 1.5+2.5 & just started 2.8

2) Platinum Uncharted 4

Haven't gone back to it since I've beat it. Hoping to get to it just before Lost Legacy drops.

3) Finish more games then I buy

I'm currently at 28 finished, 31 bought! Yes I have a serious problem. Bought Yakuza 0 last night & I feel terrible- that's another 60 hour game!

One of my biggest Resolutions will be to try to focus a little bit more on my backlog. That's actually probably my biggest one and one I think the majority of us share. I want to try to make a habit of finishing things that I own.. For example, I've finished the Witcher 3's main story, but since I've bought the DLC, then I need to finish it aswell. If it's a game that has expansions that I've not bought, well, screw it.

Another few 'lesser' ones for me would be:

  • Try to stop buying games when I've got too many to play. (Picking one up in a sale or two would be fine).
  • Aim to finish The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's expansions. (Still haven't started Hearts of Stone).
  • Try to make gaming more enjoyable for myself by playing with a few of you lot a bit more. Honestly guys, if you see me playing a game and you'd want someone to chill out with or want another man in your squad or party, the hit me up!
  • This one is quite a high target, but I won't be angry or peeved off if I don't reach it. It's to reach 200 followers on Twitch. (Currently at 85? I think). I've really gotten into streaming lately and have been enjoying it. Even had the likes of @TripleGK; @Anchorsam_9; and even the legend @Quintumply drop into the streams when they've got any spare time. I've been having loads of fun with streaming and once the chat starts flowing, it becomes shed loads of fun!

But yeah, that's what I invision my 2017 looking like. I just hope it is somewhat close to what it'll actually be and not having me sat here this time next year still not having finished The Witcher 3!!

My 6 month update looks like this:

  • I've not bought any games when I have too many to play. Like I've not bought 5 story driven games and finishing 2 of them.
  • STILL haven't started The Witcher 3's DLCs.
  • I've been making gaming more enjoyable. I've been playing loads — and I mean LOADS — of SMITE with @TripleGK and @AlexStinton, which is great fun. 83% of the time. And not to mention some "UNOOOOOOOO" with @TripleGK, @AnchorSam_9 and @Quintumply. So in that regard, I'm fairly happy.
  • I've taken a break from streaming. I've hit about 120 followers and it's a bigger milestone than I could've asked for. I'm hoping to get back into it soon.

Overall, I'd say mixed results for me. But I'm defintely on the right track to getting my resolutions finished!

My gaming resolutions are these for 2017.

1.) Beat most of my PS3, Wii U, and Wii games in my backlog.
2.) Buy a 3DS and Xbox 360.
3.) Beat most of my 360, Xbox, 3DS, and DS games.
4.) Buy a 500GB or 1TB PS4 Slim during Black Friday 2017.

As for owning a XB1, Switch, and Vita, I'll be holding off on buying them until 2018 or later.

Updated. I've bought a New 3DS XL and I should have a 360 in October. My DS collection is almost complete and I've already bought all of my 360 games.

KratosMD wrote:

@ToddlerNaruto: If you want a tip on which console out of those three to start with, I'd recommend going first with the 3DS. If you're gonna be busy finishing games on your PS3, a handheld would be great to go with it so I would narrow the list down to the 3DS and the Vita. But the Vita's exclusives are already starting to get ported to the PS4 (Gravity Rush, Tearaway, Danganronpa 1 and 2, WipEout 2048 and so on) so I wouldn't be in a rush to buy that system. The 3DS however has lots of great exclusives that's not available anywhere which is why I think that would be a good console to start with. As a side note, I think honestly that the 3DS is my favourite Nintendo handheld system ever and has possibly the best exclusives out of all the Nintendo handhelds, so I wouldn't want to miss out on this one.

Thanks for the advice (and sorry for the late reply). I went ahead and bought the 3DS and soon the 360, but I've decided the Vita can wait until 2018.

@ToddlerNaruto Honestly you might just want to go with an Xbox One instead of a 360. With the One X coming out you can probably get an Xbox One pretty cheap and with the backwards compatibility with 360 games you will have a system with access to so many more games.

@ToddlerNaruto Good choice! I've personally already built up a vast collection of games for the 3DS the past couple of months. There are just so many great exclusives on there! I still don't regret calling it the best Nintendo handheld as well as being home to the best exclusives of any Nintendo handheld. I doubt you'll have trouble finding anything amazing to play.

KratosMD

KidBoruto

@Tasuki I would have bought a XB1 instead, but it isn't backwards compatible with Crackdown 1-2, Fable: Anniversary, Infinite Undiscovery, Just Cause 1, Saints Row 1, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Tales of Vesperia, or The Last Remnant.

Which is why I need to still buy the Xbox 360, that's 9 360 games the XB1 can't play. I'll eventually buy a XB1 but not until Black Friday 2018 or 2019.

@KratosMD Thanks ! I actually only have five 3DS games though, while my DS collection is at 20 games.

I plan on buying ALOT more 3DS games from now to January though. Between Christmas and my birthday (Jan 18), I should be able to buy at least half of the 3DS games on my wishlist.
