Topic: Franchises You Haven't Played But Want To

There's no kidding that there are a lot of video game franchises available for us that we want to play but because of some hindrance we cannot play all of them. Because of this being a PlayStation forum, maybe some of you have haven't played much of Nintendo's or Microsoft's franchises and been meaning to try them out or maybe you've wanted to play some RPGs but been scared of how long they are. Regardless, if you had the opportunity, which franchises would you be interested in delving into that maybe you've wanted to play for a long time but never got around to doing so?

I know that this year has been the year of RPGs that I've never played. Starting with Fallout, then continuing on with the Persona series, with Dark Souls/Bloodborne right after that and now I'm playing through the Final Fantasy franchise. But out of all those, Final Fantasy has been one franchise that I've wanted to play forever but never felt like delving into because there are so many titles in the series and they are obviously lengthy games. Now that I've actually broken through that barrier, I'm happy to say that this franchise doesn't disappoint and there are still many more delights in front of me.

And because I've now grown fond of Final Fantasy, another franchise that I've been wanting to play through is Kingdom Hearts. Like I've said before, RPGs' length has been the main issue for me but now that that's no longer a problem, I can finally play this supposedly amazing franchise.

So how about you guys?

I can't think of a franchise that I haven't yet played but want to. That doesn't mean I have played every franchise but those I haven't, I have no desire to play.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

Oh boy - so many!

I ave never played any Mass Effect game (shock and horror) and I know I am missing out. Never played a Skyrim game but would like to.

There are also a lot of eastern franchises, including Final Fantasy that I have never got involved in, probably too many to mention. I find those particularly impenetrable as a late comer.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@Rudy_Manchego: yeah none of the Main FF games are linked although some games have their own sequels like Final Fantasy X has X-2, the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII or the FFXIII Trilogy

mainly though the games just share common themes or elements but have no correlation to each other

@Rudy_Manchego: Lol I thought everyone knew that to be fair! But nope, the main instalments are all unlinked with their own world, characters and stories. Only a few things cross over such as the inclusion of chocobos, a character called Cid, item names and other general themes and concepts. I won't get into a "which is best" discussion as its died a death but generally either 4,6,7,8,9 and 10 come up in most people's favourites and any of them are good to jump into

@kyleforrester87: @Rudy_Manchego: i would say IX would be a great one to start with because it's like an amalgamation of all the classic Final Fantasy games in terms of it's gameplay, characters, world and story

@kyleforrester87: @FullbringIchigo: Man I've been busted by my lack of knowledge. I have been tempted to try X just because it is available on the Vita and I have seen it second hand fairly cheap. Too many games to play!

@Rudy_Manchego: X is a good one too although it's battle system is quite different to the other from the "Classic" era (i like to split the series into Classic and Modern Eras, FF I-X is the classic and XI onwards being the modern era as FFX was the last game Hironobu Sakaguchi, the original creator had ANYTHING to do with)

I've plenty as I've had something of a patchy history with gaming (stopped for awhile, didn't play much before I was 12): God of War (played half of 1), Legend of Zelda (played half of Oracle of Seasons), Super Mario Bros, Earthbound, Ratchet and Clank (played half of 1), Sly Cooper (played 1), Jax and Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro (played 1), Disgaea (played through some of 1), Mass Effect (only played 1), Metal Gear Solid (only played 1). Lot's games to catch up on! I've a bunch of Final Fantasies to play through as well

Mass Effect, Forza, Mega Man (sans Battle Network, played that), Tales of, Splinter Cell, God of War, Hitman, and Metroid are all series that for whatever reason eluded me.

I try to play at least one entry in every series that catches my eye, but there are a lot that have eluded me.

In terms of Sony series/games: Gravity Rush, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, Shadow of the Colossus, Sly Cooper, and Tearaway.

Nintendo: Fatal Frame, Mysterious Murasami Castle, Pikmin, Star Fox, and Xenoblade Chronicles.

Microsoft: None (Halo is their only 1st party property that interests me, and I finally played & enjoyed my first entry this past summer).

3rd Party: Armored Core, Dark Souls, Darkstalkers, Prince of Persia,Shenmu, Senran Kagura, Titanfall, and Yakuza.

Of course, I'm sure there's a series or two I forgot about.

Currently Playing:
Switch - NSMBU Deluxe
PS4 - Moss

Tasuki

The only one that comes to mind right now is Yakuza main reason how freakin expensive these games are now. But with the remake, remastery or whatever they call it of Yakuza coming next year I hope it means 2 will get one as well.

Prince of Persia completely passed me by. I guess I have technically played one of the games - that weird cel-shaded PS3 reboot they released - but in terms of the proper PS2 trilogy, I've never played them. Would love to, as I know they're highly regarded by many.

Oh, Tasuki's reminded me, Yakuza is a good one. Never played one of those either.

@get2sammyb: Splatoon is brilliant fun. Once you get used to the gyro aiming (similar to Uncharted on Vita) it's a very slick and satisfying multiplayer shooter/mess-maker. If you end up getting a Switch and they do indeed port it over, I'd highly recommend it.
