@JJ2 @octane The PS5 will run 8K so I have a good feeling about 4K 60FPS. It’s below the “goal” this time.

Go build a high-end gaming PC if you want to spend a buttload of money on a new platform. Home consoles are mass market-oriented devices that NEED to target a competitive price tag.

@Octane Everything so far suggests that both Microsoft and Sony are more interested in frame rate when it comes to the next generation. Gran Turismo developer Polyphony have come out and said 4K is enough display resolution wise and will instead focus going above 60fps. This is not to say that every dev will think like this, but it is a sign that there way of thinking is changing.

Things have kind of maxed out for now resolution wise with 4K, it is no point developers aiming for 8k as we are nowhere near ready for that. Next gen consoles will 8K ready but they will not be able to do it natively. Which makes me think that I'm not sure that there will be a Pro version of the PS5 as they will have a hard time finding a USP. Plus they are no longer held back by the relatively weak CPU's in the current gen consoles.

@JohnnyShoulder That's Gran Turismo though, a racing game. Frame rate is important in those. And it already hits 60 on PS4, right? So 120 would be the next step. Different games, different needs I think. I'm not convinced we'll see the next God of War in 60fps for example.

@Octane If they feel 30fps is right for the game, then so be it. 60fps is not ideal for every game after all, some games do not feel right with a higher frame rate.

They aimed for it in GT Sport, but apparently the base console doesn't consistely hold it and dips below 60fps. By the sounds of it with PS5 that is the minimum the console will be able to hold, for that game anyway.
