2. Point and Click Games: I dont know why i hate this type of game so much but i always have.
1. Strategy Games: I never really cared for them. I tried XCom when it was free for plus and i couldn't get into it.

@ShadowWarrior You might want to change gender to genre there. When I saw the title I was a little unsure what was going on here (for better or for worse). I see it was just a typo though.

I'd have to say Visual Novels and similar dungeon crawlers. Really do nothing for me.

good idea for a topic now let me see

Sport: yeah i'm pretty sure it's a Genre but i just find every sport game i have played boring

Battle Royale: well if it wasn't one before it certainly is now but much like with sport games i find them dull and boring

oh and if it's a genre then multiplayer shooters

@FullbringIchigo @ShadowWarrior It is a good idea for a topic.

It's interesting how certain types of game can really get some people going but leave others decidedly unmoved.

Also, how quickly I very nearly instantly wanted to say '...but have you played...' haha

Puzzle, generally, with Fez being the major caveat. Portal 1 is good too, 2 a bit less so. Braid is awesome too. Okay so turns out I love a lot of puzzle games.
So called "Walking Simulators".
And more lately any "procedurally generated" indie game, apart from Sky Torn which looks like it will be good.

@ShadowWarrior I'm not a big fan of turn based strategy games to be honest. But I do enjoy turn based battle systems in RPGs, I find it compliments the freedom outside of the battles quite well that you get in these games. But pure turn based strategy games like FF Tactics, Xcom, Mario v's Rabbids isn't really for me. Valkyria Chronicles is better where you have better control over your character.

But I love real time strategy games, Command & Conquer and Age of Empires etc.

  • Survival/crafting games: gathering resources for an hour to build a hut and then get it all destroyed by another player or enemy and start over never sounded fun to me. Even with a buddy, the endless grind and "realistic" pacing of games like Rust and ARK: Survival Evolved or even the original Fortnite just puts me to sleep (nevermind the large amounts of time they require). I think I gave these games a fair shot, but...they're just not for me. Maybe Fallout '76 can change my mind, but I doubt it...
  • Grindy co-op looter shooters: games like Warframe, Destiny, and The Division are all mechanically fun to play, but often these games feel like 6 hours of content stretched out to 600 hours, with incrementally better gear and story snippets often so inconsequential they may as well not be there. Anthem is looking to follow suit, and I'm willing to possibility give this genre another go (if the emphasis on narrative is anything like they say) but life is too short and there are too many other games to stop and give months to these kinds of titles. Wish I could, but...these games are just not for me.

Make it a great day!

Oh yeah, I should mention Battle Royale too! Loved the genre at first, when I played PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on PC, but my love came crashing down after 12 hours. Even with a buddy, matches mostly boiled down to traversing the map for 10 minutes and then getting sniped or gunned down out of nowhere (so the worst parts of Battlefield). That was a year ago, and I thought "This genre needs some work...but I'm excited for the future!" But instead we got lootboxes and all this other fluff in these games instead of real gameplay improvements. I'm hoping Battlefield V can put things back on track...

Make it a great day!

Sports games such as Football, basketball or golf are games I would never go near.

Walking simulators.. I've tried a few, they tend to be very empty from what I've seen so far. A big empty village or house, or landscape with nothing really happening. Yeah.. I don't get it. Not my thing I guess.

And whatever genre the lego games fall into. Collect all the random cr*p. I think I'd have more fun cleaning the house with a vacuum cleaner.

Anything that must be played with keyboard and/or mouse, I really hate mouse and keyboards

other than that:

  • Strategy games and management games, things like Civilization, Sim city, Syndicate, Starcraft...
  • Team based sports games
  • Jrpgs with very few exceptions (FF7 and Paper Mario 1)
  • games with realistic settings and stories and games with settings that are dirty, degraded or unpleasant in some way. I hate reality, I use games for escapism, I want games to give me something better than reality, something that I can find pleasing and beautiful at least in some ways.

Of course there are some exceptions. I really like a lot Daggerfal for example, back then it was mind blowing, but I really hate the fact that it can be played only with keyboard and mouse. I prefer Oblivion rather than Skyrim, but I absolutely don't play it as much as I play Skyrim and one of the few reasons (probably the main one) is the fact that I have it on PC and there is no way to play it with a gamepad in a comfortable way on PC.
Most of FF7 environments are not very pleasant, but I still like it a lot.
But for the most part I really hate games that belongs in those categories.

My 'bottom 3' (hardly a top 3) genres that I really dislike (and in no particular order)

1) Fighting Games!! I cannot stand any fighting game at all. Its not that I suck at them (although certainly not 'eSport' competent either) but they are nothing more than button bashing, mindless games for me and get absolutely no satisfaction from playing them - even if I get a perfect win.

2) Walking Sims, point and click, anything with turn based combat, 'interactive' stories (TellTale games for example) etc. I find these incredibly boring, slow and tedious. I couldn't care less how good the stories maybe, how good the visuals are because they aren't having to focus on 'game-play' etc, I want 'games' to have good 'game-play', to get to the action relatively quickly, to control the fights with immediate tactics (not to stand there, take my hits and wait for my turn for some 'random' BS to tell me my attack 'misses') and to actually feel like I am 'playing'

3) Rhythm games - I have never understood the attraction of pressing buttons at the right time. They are by nature on-rails (something I don't really like either) and basically an extended QTE - often with less margin for error. If you want to improve, you can just memorise the pattern.

There are others that I am not keen on too but with most of the other genres, there maybe 1 or 2 games that I actually enjoy in that genre but with these 3, I can't think of any games that I would consider playing within these. For example, I don't particularly like 'Sports or Vehicle Sims' but I do play the odd Racing game (which can be classified in either category).

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@ShadowWarrior Great topic!

1. Sports, simply because many of them represent something I could do if I wanted to for real; I understand the appeal but, from my perspective, if I wanted to play football I'd join a local team. Given that sports games are also the most repetitive releases (people criticise CoD for "bringing out the same game every year", c'mon) I can safely say that, beyond the odd round of Wii Sports Golf with my Dad, I've never enjoyed a sports game and I own none.

2. Horror, survival or otherwise. This one's mostly because I'm a coward; I play games to relax and be entertained, not to jump out of my skin and recoil in disgust. I could probably handle the old PSone Resident Evil games nowadays, but I don't think it'd be worth trying, and it's not something I'd wanna get in to, thanks.

3. Beat 'em ups, again for similar reasons to the sports games (I have experience in martial arts and qualifications in fencing) but also because the repetitive nature of going toe-to-toe against the A.I. can get pretty stale, and playing against others online is hopeless because I'm just not that good. There are exceptions to this one, however; the Injustice games did a pretty solid job of making beat 'em up gameplay work in a cinematic storyline, and I do enjoy the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series because of the simple controls and, again, cinematic flair.

There are several other types of games that I generally don't go anywhere near, but I'll always try and give them an open-minded look-see if they're unique enough.

There are loads of genres out there and luckily we have a ton which are really well stocked. I didnt think I disliked any genre, as everytime I thought of one 3 or 4 games popped into my head. Until I looked up a genre. And its absolutely awful;

Card based battle game genre

Always filled with mtx, awful gameplay, never ending cards and the developers constantly nerf and buff different cards. Awful genre awful. Get to room 101.

@themcnoisy I forgot about Card games - I really dislike those too... but I think I could stick those in with the others I had in my number 2 slot as they are in that nature - turn based for example...

@themcnoisy by "Card Based Battle" do you mean games like Yu-Gi-Oh which are just card games or games like Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories which are action/RPG games that use cards as part of your skill sets (different cards have different skills)
