The game I was most looking forward to playing on PS4 when I first bought it was Killzone Shadowfall. I had loved the previous games and liked the style of movement and gameplay. The game just did not seem to fit the Killzone franchise. I played the game and did end up completing it but thats where the love for the franchise died.

The graphics are fine and if I had never played any of the previous titles I would have probably been happier with the game.

Batman: Arkham Knight. It was one of my most anticipated games of this gen after how much I liked Asylum and City but it fell short of expectations. The Batmobile sections felt forced and were absolutely horrendous and the story wasn't that great. The hand-to-hand combat was as solid as ever but that's the best thing I can say for the game. I also think while some games benefit from the open world structure, others do not. The open but more enclosed structure of Asylum worked best for Arkham and that's why it's still my favorite in the series.

I guess Killzone: Shadowfall is a bit of a disappointment for me. I haven't felt compelled to finish the campaign yet. I also didn't think the MP was particularly great either. Neither are bad though but compared to Killzone 2's campaign and Killzone 3's MP, I felt this was a bit disappointing. Visually its certainly impressive though. Infamous was another that I felt was a bit disappointing compared to its predecessors too but again its still a good game.
I agree that Batman: Arkham Knight had a few disappointing aspects - most notably the repetitive and out of context Batmobile sequences. I still maintain though that its the best game to be the Batman and its great fun just zooming around in the Batmobile but Asylums story is better. The atmosphere, scale etc is excellent and love the combat as Batman. I love flying over the city too but I did get a bit bored with the Batmobile 'Side missions' and the way it was 'forced' into certain aspects - as in you had to use it. Batman has so many different approaches and tools to use, the Batmobile though is so 1 dimensional.
Star Wars: Battlefront though is probably the most disappointing. Their is nothing wrong with the visuals and the sound is great too - A few poor lines of dialogue and obviously not the original actors voicing characters (some are better than others) as well as Dice adding some of its own music to the score (at least I don't recognise it from the movies) does bring the overall impact of the sound down a bit but its still great. The game-play and variety though is where this game gets disappointing for me. There is a distinct lack of modes I really enjoyed from the previous Battlefront. Whilst there are no space battles, their is a mode only involving space craft - although only 2 craft per side and 1 special craft if you find the pick-up. There isn't that many unlockables in the game in general either. The lack of classes (something that was in the original Battlefront as well as Battlefield) means that everyone has the same role and feel. Objective modes, whilst giving a bit more focus, still play and feel the same. You can't for example switch between having a defensive - protect the objective loadout to an aggressive - get the objective loadout. Couple this lack of variety in the gameplay (by that I mean every soldier plays the same) with the lack of rewards and unlockables, it means that after a while you feel you have done everything, unlocked everything etc. Its certainly fun and recreates the universe well but it does feel that it doesn't have the 'legs' of its competitors.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

I agree 100% here with @Gamer83. In fact, I never got around to finishing it before I traded it in.

Starwars Battlefront would have been if I bought it but also I was prepared for it too be bad so really it was too big of a disappointment, not like Arkham Knight anyway.

Killzone Shadowfall's campaign is something I still wonder about...I just can't put my finger on what makes it so bad. Leading up to its release, the concept of the OWL and the semi-open world gameplay sounded PERFECT to me, but it just ends up being so aimless and tedious somehow. The multiplayer I'd have to disagree on...I absolutely loved it, more than any other console multiplayer game I've played since.

inFAMOUS: Second Son was another huge disappointment for me, mostly in that the choices didn't seem to have an impact on the story, the story itself ended up being SUPER basic with no plot twists this time around, and it had nothing to do with the First Sons or the first two games at all, aside from the Zeke DLC, which was literally like three lines of dialog! The cast of characters wasn't that great, all the side-missions were replaced by just a list of collectibles, civilians didn't really care about you flying around making a scene, and the powers all felt same-y, except Neon. I enjoyed it, but it just seemed like it coulda be so much more, especially in the wake of inFAMOUS 2.

The number of games not running at 60 FPS is also a disappointment. It's like no matter what the hardware specs are, most developers forgo working within the limits of the hardware.

And Battlefront...ugh. I wish my fiance wasn't such a huge Star Wars fan, otherwise, I'd trade it out for something less anemic.

Make it a great day!

most (if not all) of the games currently running at 30fps in my opinion don't suffer from the lower frame-rate. I can't think off any game that I have played where I thought 'I wish this was 60fps' as its really affecting the game-play. In an ideal world it would be great to have at least 60fps and 4k resolution in every game but considering games are already 40-50GB, I wonder how big that would make them as well as the size of some of these big open worlds too. Most of the best games over the last 10yrs have all been 30fps games. Even the top games from this year are 30fps - The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, etc. I agree it would be disappointing if it seriously impacted on the game play but it seems that the 30fps games are often the GOTY winners too so it can't be impacting that much.

Killzone: Shadow Fall (Good game, but the single player campaign swayed from great to uninspired / mediocre level design).

Batman: Arkham Knight (While they nailed the Gotham aesthetic, the actual open world was a bit wanting compared to more recent titles, even Arkham City did some things better. The amount of trivial crap to do in order to see the actual ending showcased some very poor design / progression choices......the DLC so far has been somewhat lame. Again, good game, but disappointing).

Metal Gear Solid 5: i'll be honest making it open world while it's done brilliantly changed the whole dynamic of the game and it just didn't feel like Metal Gear to me

in fact the whole thing just felt off plus that "twist" ending, i didn't like that either

The singleplayer campaign in Killzone Shadow Fall simply wasn't Killzone, others have commented in the past that it felt more like Crysis or Halo with the one-man army deal, which is completely accurate. I actually thought what was there was pretty decent (although the end levels got pretty bad) but I expected something much different. I actually like Mercenary on the Vita much better. It also felt different from previous Killzones but still maintained a lot of what makes the series tick.

@FullbringIchigo: Man I love mgs v - I mean absolutely besotted with it. I've just passed the voices level were you

#£%%spoiler%%£#
Walk through the mist section through a river and it gave me goosebumps - I solved mgs 3 with the fake death pill on my own after doing the same thing loads of times and this level brought it all back.

Wow what a game. What a game.

Ok disappointing games are kz shadow fall its just rubbish, complicated and clunky. Bladestorm is possibly the worst game so far and fifa 15 wasn't a proper next gen step up (16 is awesome)

@Gamer83:

Yes, I played Killzone: Mercenary as well, despite obviously being built for a hand held, I'll agree that in some ways it's the better game of the two.......more interesting for sure.

@get2sammyb:

Yes, it seemed like Ready at Dawn became a bit obsessed with the graphical and technical fidelity of the game, ultimately at the sake of adding more gameplay elements.

It's not a bad game mind you, and I actually enjoyed the shooting portions, IMO I think people were overly critical of the combat mechanics...it wasn't bad, their just wasn't enough of it!!! Or other added elements, like platforming or puzzle solving.

That's the problem with 1886, so many segments show a lot of promise, but ultimately it felt undercooked, and thus shallow.

Game of Thrones.

As a huge fan of both the TV show and of TellTale I was really expecting to love it. It ended up being my least favortie TT game I have played. I just never really cared about any of the characters you play as outside of Asher.

I guess I could add the WWE 2K games as well, but I can't really say I am disappointed by them since THQ went bankrupt and 2K started doing them because it's a different engine and whatnot. Graphically speaking the games are really really nice just I don't like the control styles but as I said that's mainly due to THQ going out of business.

Destiny's The Dark Below and House of Wolves expansion packs.

Wasn't that impress with the Crota's End raid and Prison of Elders was just a glorified survival mode. At the end of the day it wasn't worth $40, imo.

I would also add GTAV as well. Got the game because of recommendations from my friends but the game didn't appeal to me. Sure the open world aspect is impressive but I didn't like how the gunplay felt. Sprinting and melee felt sluggish to me and trying to escape from the cops feels like a chore at times.

@themcnoisy: oh it was a great game to be sure but it also really disappointed me because it didn't feel like a Metal Gear game to me

when i play MGS i want tight hallways, i want stupidly long over the top cutscenes, i want to have codec calls because these ARE things that make it a MGS game

if this game had been ANYTHING else it would have been my GOTY for sure but as a Metal Gear game to me it was a huge disappointment

@themcnoisy: Yeah, its not just me though. I have friends who are huge fans of GTA V (still playing the game till this day) who agrees that escaping from the police part can get a bit annoying at times. It's like the cops have ESP or something - on one occasion we were hiding inside a tunnel without being detected from them and all of a sudden out of nowhere a cop car ran over a fence, down a hill and started chasing after us. I thought it was the T-1000 inside that car! lol
