So what does everyone have pre-ordered (for PS4 or otherwise.) I figured this would be a if way tos we what everyone is the most excited for.

I currently have the collector's edition of Spider-Man preordered and fully paid off. I plan on preordering Yakuza Kiwami 2 in the near future too.

Other than that, I don't usually preorder stuff. Not unless it's something I'm guaranteed to like.

Kingdom Hearts 3. I grew up playing KH3 and have to experience the end of the saga.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. After playing bloodborne and seeing the new focus in this on stealth and fighting more humans enemies with swordplay I knew I’d love it in an instant.
Persona 5: Dancing Star Night - Persona 5 is the greatest game of all time, and the most stylish. I can’t not get a P5 game. I wish it had a story mode, but oh well. I never thought I’d be this excited or paying $60 for a rhythm game, but this getting a release date made my day. I also I’ve the P5 soundtrack, so I can’t wait on that front either. Ooh, it’s gonna sound so good with my gaming headphones.

I have Marvel’s Spider-Man regular edition pre-ordered and paid for. I have Shadow of the Tomb Raider pre-ordered. And after today’s promotions, I think I’m putting a preorder down on Red Dead Redemption 2 this weekend.
Others I would preorder if I had infinite time and money: Valkyria Chronicles 4, Shenmue 1/2, Kiwami 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Soul Calibur 6, and Code Vein.
So yeah, those are all games I’m planning to get, but there is no way I can play them all at release so probably won’t preorder.

I haven't pre-ordered a game in... 8 years, I think. One reason is I've never experienced games being out of stock on day one, but more importantly I just rather wait for reviews. Red Dead Redemption 2 might be the first game since RDR1 that I'm going to preorder. Still have to think about whether I will even have time to play it at launch, though.

A lot gaming personalities/Youtubers always preach about not pre-ordering, but what they fail to take into account is that there is a financial incentive to do so. Also there is a very real risk in a niche JRPG selling out. Persona 5 (which I pre-ordered), NieR Automata and Yakuza 0 all sold out in my area.
Just recently, I was able to get Octopath Traveler for ~£35 with rewards+pre-order bonuses.

At the minute I have pre-ordered:
-Yakuza Kiwami 2
-Dragon Quest XI
-Spider-Man
-Guacamellee 2
-Astro Bot
-Kingdom Hearts 3

Next time I'm in town I'll probably put pre-orders in for Shenmue 1+2 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

I tend not to pre-order too many games these days. The last game I pre-ordered was God of War, and the next will be Spider-Man or Red Dead Redemption 2

Nothing at all, if I do preorder anything - which is likely, Red Dead and maybe the new Tomb Raider - it'll be a couple of days or a week prior. But that's only because I want to get it delivered on release date really. I don't see the point in preordering months in advance.

I tend to only preorder certain games with digital preorder bonuses. Tempted by Anthem, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

A bride off the internet.

Seriously though, I don't really pre-order unless it is a known quantity and I want to play on launch day. Normally these are Sony titles because they allow reviews a week or two before release and I can make up my mind. I can't think of a pre-order actually where I have ordered completely blind. Possibly Hellbade Senua's sacrifice but I think I read a good few reviews before I ordered. Red Dead 2 is probably a must buy but I doubt they are going to run out of stock.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

Have posted this elsewhere recently, but I suppose once more can't hurt now that there's a specific topic. It's also good to see what people are genuinely excited for, enough to pre-order rather than just say "yeah, looking pretty cool" in the comments section.

  • Shenmue I & II (21 August)
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Croft Edition (14 September)
  • Spyro: Reignited Trilogy (21 September)
  • LEGO DC Super Villains - Deluxe Mini-Fig Edition (19 October)
  • Hitman 2 - Gold Edition (9 November)
  • Just Cause 4 - Gold Edition (4 December)
  • Team Sonic Racing (Release Date TBC)

Shenmue, Spyro and Sonic will probably get put straight on the backlog pile, as I can't see being able to enjoy them between all the other major releases. They're also the games whereby I'm least likely to stumble across spoilers in the first couple weeks. Tomb Raider, LEGO (amazingly), Hitman and Just Cause will all have original storylines I'm hoping will grab me, and if I haven't stumbled across spoilers for Shenmue already, I've been doing the internet wrong.

@RogerRoger
Not trying to be rude or anything but why pre-order games if they're only gonna end up in your backlog ?

I used to preorder more, because of good preorder bonuses, but lately it seems those perks are less and less appealing. For Uncharted 4 Preorder we got a full extra game - the Jak and Daxter PS4 remaster (ahem, which I still haven’t played ... but stil, it was a nice perk), and yet for Horizon Zero Dawn I think all I got was a “poster” which was pretty low quality and ended up in the trash. I think my last preorder was Shadow of the Colossus and we got the 16 PS4 colossi avatars, which is okay. I’ve been using one of them ever since.
I regret that many of the bonuses are just early access to obtainable items like weapons, outfits, or currency already in the game, as in the case of Spider-Man where the bonus outfits are not exclusive. It does reduce the incentive to preorder.
But I still preorder those that I have no doubt I will get because I figure, why not? And it helps me feel more hyped for the game. Supporting the developer is also partly the reason. Kind of like seeing a movie on opening weekend, when nearly all the profits go to the production studio before the local theaters start getting their cut.

@ShadowWarrior I have OCD, which (in my case, as it affects everybody differently) unfortunately means I can't add any game to my collection unless it's a brand new, factory-sealed copy. I wish it weren't so because, you're right, it's nuts to pre-order something like Spyro or Team Sonic Racing if I'm not gonna play it right away; there'll be plenty of copies, and it'll only be cheaper in a month or two. Alas, my brain won't let me be so logical.

With regards Shenmue, however, I'm genuinely concerned won't be stocked in high numbers at my local GAME, as they rarely keep stock for more obscure titles that they feel won't sell, especially with Christmas right around the corner and so many high-profile, Triple-A games vying for dominance this year.

So, at least I have a logical reason for one of the three, then.

I don't pre-order. I just buy the game a week ahead of release and I get it day one, if not a day or two early. I don't see any reason to pre-order since I don't care about special editions.
