So I'm absolutely loving Ys: Memories of Celceta.
JRPGs are my favorite game genre and every now and then I have to remind myself why.
I can't believe this on vita. Absolute steal at £6.
It's not the most graphically impressive game on vita, but the presentation and story telling is phenomenal- that moment riding the Sparda upstream .
As this is my first Ys game, I do have some questions:

My understanding is that all Ys games are standalone. Adol is a famed explorer. In Memories of Celceta Adol suffers from Amnesia. It's a good way to strip back power from such a battle-tested protagonist and have you start from 'zero'. Is this also the case in other games? Are there references to past adventures, do you ever meet previous companions? Do you start the games just super powerful or do you get 'reset' each time?

Are there any other must play Ys games, before I move onto Ys VIII?

When I have the option between Vita & PS4, I always go for vita, but I think I'm going to get Ys VIII on PS4 now. Didn't expect to enjoy Ys this much and I feel like playing the best possible version of the game now.
