Topic: The Witness

I'm currently ploughing through this amazing game and wonder what everyone's thoughts are? Spoiler tags are the order of the day even though its been out for almost a year.

I've been tempted, especially with the current sale, but I am also thick as pig poo so worried I'll just get frustrated. I'm not a great puzzler - I still think Sudoku is the noise you make when you have a violent sneeze.

@Rudy_Manchego you would be surprised. The puzzles aren't like Sudoku in as much as the majority I've beat can be done in few seconds. As a gamer, you work them out in the end, alot has to do with observation and grabbing some paper and a pen. Its funny actually I worked out the Tetris puzzles in the mines before finding the marsh tetris puzzle tutorial as I've thought of this puzzle in my head whilst playing Tetris 10 years ago! But I was gazumped on a puzzle with a white and black spot and one black star (this is dead easy) as I didn't have a Scooby of the logic. The game teaches you the rules of these puzzles, wherever you stumble across the rules first is another matter!

Anyway, it's one of my favourite games of last year, it's absolutely brilliant.

I wasn't wrong lol. £30 put me right off. But Mr Blows next game, its a day 1 for me regardless of the price.

I got bored of it :') Was missing a great soundtrack in my opinion.

@kyleforrester87 all I can hear is birds cheeping high high low medium low. (that's in reference to a puzzle)

But yeah there's no soundtrack? Mad didn't even realise until you mentioned it.

You know my thoughts already One of the best games on PS4, no question.

With @themcnoisy getting into it recently, I've gone back in just to have a walk around the island and solve any straggling puzzles I missed when I played last year. So good.

@Quintumply Yeah I cant do all the lazers and checking on the trophies last night I've completely missed shady trees area and the monastery. The town has also alluded me due to the dead hard initial puzzles.

Thanks for the assist on the desert lazer - but then trying to open up the mountain with the floor puzzle with the guy holding a box. I should have quit lol. Firstly I couldn't work out there was a switch on the box, (I kept switching the stream switch thinking it was on a timer) an hour later worked it out, then those floor puzzles

@themcnoisy Yeah that floor puzzle on the mountain is a tough one. That took me quite a while, but it was super satisfying once I figured it out.

Part of the beauty of The Witness is that you can do it in pretty much any order, so you can go back and do those extra lasers whenever you want. The town is definitely the hardest laser to get, I think.

Did you solve the floor puzzle?

@Quintumply just about, I'm right upto the broken monitor puzzles in the mountain - on the 3rd or 4th on the left hand side. The puzzles are easy enough but due to the overlapping (underlapping?) my head was bamboozled and it was late. Drawing the puzzles on paper first should make them a doddle. I'm unfortunately in work today, but looking to really push on later tonight!

@themcnoisy The town is definitely an area you want to visit when you're done with all the other areas. I think everyone stumbles upon the town pretty early on, and it's confusing at first. But if you come back later it all makes sense.

Also, if you care for your progression in the game, you might want to visit the lake some time

@themcnoisy Couldn't help but respond. Had a bad end of the year with some health and personal problems at the end of the year. Just seeing myself through it. PlayStation has been a useful recovery aid!

@Churchy Hope things are better now, lad!

I love The Witness, but I'm quite stuck on the Town and the Monastery. Every other time I return to the game I might solve some puzzles, but right now I'm stuck in the sound recording room in the town. Being stuck doesn't frustrate me, though, I just put the game away for some time when I can't figure it out.

@Churchy sorry to hear that bro. My wife nearly died a two weeks ago and was in a coma. Super rubbish start to 2017 for everyone. Hopefully it all picks up for you!

@themcnoisy You can't miss it, pay good attention, if I was aware of it my time playing the game would've been so much easier. I only discovered it after I was done with the game.

@themcnoisy Thanks man. I'm sorry to hear that about your wife man. I hope things get better for her and you as well. I've been meaning to post more on here anyway so thanks for mentioning me. It feels good to know that people remember me!

@Kidfried Things have not been great the last few days but I'm still here and that's something! Also, I need to play Nioh and For Honor when they come out as I'm psyched for 'em!

@Octane I think I visited the lake. There's a statue holding a box at the end of the stream. Is that what you are alluding too?

Tonight I found the shadow trees area, it actually felt good beating an area in one (albeit lengthy) session and relatively easy. I had to come away from the mountain the color swapping screen section straight after the broken moving monitors and hidden dot screens was absolutely horrible. The levels of concentration you need is ridiculous.

After the shady trees I've tried and failed the puzzles I'm stuck on in the open world (damn you monastery) I don't understand how more people have finished the monastery on the trophy percentage compared to the bird jungle. How? The jungle is probably the easiest section in the whole game. That monastery is seemingly impenetrable.
