@Th3solution but, but, can it do vertical steaming? And is it eco-friendly?

Nintendo will release a Switch hardware revision akin to New3DS and cease production of the original design opposed to being a significant upgrade, the new chipset will be a hardware fix for hacking vulnerability and 'quality of life' improvements while retaining compatibility will previous games and accessories.

@Octane that's why they would have "Pro" exclusive games, the dock itself would play them and then stream them to the handheld part like what the PS4 and PS Vita does when it's undocked and yes it would have either a slot or a disc drive in the dock section in order to facilitate the games (preferably a disc drive as they can hold more plus it could be backwards compatible with Wii and WiiU games then) BUT they would sell it in 2 ways, one with the screen and controller and a cheaper version without them for those who already have a Switch

i know it would basically be 2 consoles acting as one but you would be able to play standard Switch games in the same way as you do now BUT also have access to games the current Switch can't ever hope to play

@FullbringIchigo I see, but wouldn't that just overcomplicate things? If the new ''dock'' would be on par with the PS4 and Xbox One, it would be just as expensive. A disc drive would also means they'd have to release Switch games on two formats, and they wouldn't be compatible with each other, the ''dock'' can't play game cards, and the Switch itself can't play the discs. Streaming to the console is an option, but that only works around the house, like the Wii U basically. And a bundle with the ''dock'' and a Switch would indeed be two consoles in one, two consoles that require two different media formats. I'm not sure anyone would pay $600 for that, and have the hassle of choosing whether you want to buy the card version or the disc version.

Backwards compatibility with Wii and Wii U would be out of the question too, since their architectures are completely different, PowerPC and ARM, and they're incompatible with each other.

I mean, I get that people prefer a bit more power behind their Nintendo console instead of portability, I want that too, but I'm not sure this is the solution.

I don't expect a new ''dock'', or anything like that. Nintendo will follow their handheld model, so maybe we get a ''new Switch'' in a year or two from now. The ''new 3DS'' had exclusives, so maybe the Switch will too. Not a big fan of that idea to be honest, but I can see that happening since they've done it before.

@Octane yeah i'm not saying it's perfect but i can see them releasing some kind of "Pro" version, it seems all the rage now a days and like you said Nintendo has already done something similar with the New 3DS plus the New 3DS had exclusive games too but yeah the 2 different formats could be an issue but it could still work because they wouldn't be releasing 2 versions of a game for example take a current gen game like Final Fantasy XV that would only be available on the Pro and only on disc so it would stream to the Switch in handheld mode

also IF the dock had a HDD installed say a 500gb one then perhaps with some kind of streaming functionality like the PS Vita remote play would also allow you to play games installed on there in handheld mode too

and yeah maybe BC is a bit of a stretch but a disc drive in the dock could also allow the ability to play DVD and blu-rays

besides i'm just saying what i would like to happen not what would actually happen and if they did do a Switch Pro it would probably be like you said, an incremental increase

FullbringIchigo

@Octane OH another way to do it would be to have a Switch Pro use a higher capacity cart, one that can hold much more data than the current ones, no need for a separate disc drive then but the downside to that is the game would probably only be playable in docked mode then and that kind of defeats the point of the Switch

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

@FullbringIchigo And it will be called the Switch U.

@JohnnyShoulder or Wii Switch U

@FullbringIchigo You mean game cards? The Switch already supports up to 64GB game cards (confirmed so far, don't see why they can't go higher than that). And 64GB is bigger than any Blu-ray.

Though I do believe Nintendo delayed the production of 64GB cards until next year. I'm not sure if it's going to make a difference though. Many developers seem to avoid the 32GB cards at all costs. Apparently because the cost per unit is very high. So they opt to use a smaller card and offer the rest as a download. Which is kinda stupid IMO, but if they're already doing that with the 32GB cards, I don't see how a bigger, but more expensive card is going to change that.

That's why I still kinda prefer discs. If they can get the price of the game cards down, by a lot, that would be great. I'm not a fan of physical games that require a download. If I buy physical, I want the complete game.

Octane

FullbringIchigo

@Octane yeah me too

Ooh, I hope so!

Putting this out here: Wipeout won't be on the PlayStation Classic, but Twisted Metal will.

Kidfried

KALofKRYPTON

@Kidfried I'll take that bet.

Likely both will be, but WipEout (one of them) is more likely.

Putting this out here: only about half of the PlayStation Classic's line-up will be the icons we expect, Metal Gear Solid and Tomb Raider will probably be missing, and the rest will be obscure cult games or stuff that was only popular in Japan.

@RogerRoger I like obsure stuff in general, but I wouldn't want 20 games like Jumping Flash.

Kidfried

RogerRoger

@Kidfried Jumping Flash is specifically why, deep down, I reckon what I reckon. That being said, they might've announced it first because marketing demanded they get it out the way and done with, leaving them with nothing but good news in the build-up to release. Fingers crossed!

@RogerRoger Honestly, talking about the marketing team, I don't understand why they didn't reveal all games at once.

Right niw no one will end up happy, because everyone is setting themselves up expecting or at least hoping for their personal 20 faves. Can only be worse going from there.

Kidfried

RogerRoger

@Kidfried True. I guess they're hoping for a few more pre-orders whilst they can still trade on people's hopes. If they showed all 20 up front, and they really are gonna be a mixed bag of classics and randoms that lucked out on being easy to port and / or licence, some folks might've held back.

But then I've never understood the brain of anybody who worked in marketing, so it could equally be because somebody started typing out the full list right before lunch and got distracted by the sandwich trolley.

Darn it, now I want a sandwich.
