So, I'm not interested in the game particularly but I know a lot here are.

Kotaku have reported that Spiro Reignited will only feature Spyro The Dragon on the disc. The two sequels will have to be downloaded.

The site shows that info now too. Bit annoying I think.

@KALofKRYPTON Yeah, it's a load of bollocks to be honest. Can't fit three small remasters on a single disc? I don't understand... When a game like Mario Odyssey is only 5GB, I have a hard time believing three Spyro games need to be any bigger than 20GB combined. They could even offer two discs if they really cared, it's not as if the extra disc is going to make them go bankrupt. What's the price of a single Blu-ray in bulk? Like 1 cent, maybe less, maybe a little more. Very cheap, that's for sure!

Well that sucks. It's not a huge issue of course but could cause problems down the line.

I assume that perhaps only the first game was done in time to put on the disc?

It's a shame really - does Crash do the same, or is everything on disc?

That's very poor. If Crash Bandicoot can get all 3 games on the same disc, I'm sure this can.

@KALofKRYPTON If only the first game was done by the time it went gold, I fear for the state it will arrive in. Besides, don't they usually ''finish'' a game with a day-one patch if they're really lazy. This seems to be taking it one step further.

KALofKRYPTON

@Octane Perhaps it's that? By the time of printing, the sequels could've been in a bad but patchable state - rather than get them on the disc and playable...

I'll still get it at some point, but yeah, that's weak.

@KratosMD Playing on the PS4 isnt what you want to be doing if having the whole game on disc is your goal.

Many PS4 games from third parties surpass 50gb and some like L.A Noire just go cheap and put the bare minimum on disc and download the rest.

@Octane Spyro is a much bigger game though and the 3 Crash games are well over 20gb.

Sure, another company can master compression but 3 fairly large full HD games with loads of unique assets and voice files stacks up.

If the significantly smaller Crash games full of asset reuse are over 20gb....

How big is a game where ever level is unique?

Have we had confirmation whether it's a one time use code or just a free download once the disc is in?

One really hampers resale while the other doesn't.

@mrobinson91 Kotaku reported it as a 'one time internet connection'.

I would like to assume that the downloads are DRM locked to the disc, so couldn't be played without it - not affecting resale... I would like to assume that.

Argh. I literally just pre-ordered this at GAME the other day; now I'm feeling like it wouldn't have been the worst idea to go digital, if two-thirds of the collection needs to be downloaded anyway.

Not the worst thing in the world, but a frustration all the same, and another noteworthy milestone in the steady march towards the demise of the physical edition. Sandwiched between Shadow of the Tomb Raider and LEGO DC Super Villains, I doubt I'll be playing any of it before 2019 anyway.

@Knuckles-Fajita The Witcher 3 and all its DLC content was around 42GB, and all of it was on a single blu-ray. If they can only get one of the Spyro games on a blu-ray, they're doing something wrong...

@KratosMD given the notorious Switch cart capacity/cost issues, it wouldn't surprise me if this was still the case there.

I was suprised by this because it doesn't make sense to me. But all right it is not that big of a deal.

I think it makes sense now.

Gotta remember, the original Spyro trilogy had unique art, textures, characters, animations, music and voice acting for each individual level. Every world was unique from the last, stage to stage.

Very little, especially in 2 and 3, is reused.

Now blow it up fully remade in modern detail and quality.

At least 50GBs of internal storage. These games are simply HUGE.

This is the thing Xbox and PS4 players have been ignoring. How many of your game ACTUALLY come entirely on the disc. DOOM doesn't. CoDWW2 sure as hell doesn't. They can't reasonably fit in 50GB. PS4 and Xbox One should have used a higher capacity storage medium. And the PS5 and Xbox Two absolutely should, with 4K being 10s of GBs alone just for additional texture detail.

This is why they want us streaming and digital only. Because this stuff is becoming harder to send out.

lol no. They want streaming and digital because it means more revenue for them, and it means they control the market (no second hand games, they decide when the servers end, less price competition, etc.).

I don't believe for a second that this trilogy couldn't fit on a disc. Send out two discs if you have to, they aren't that expensive to print. They're either desperate, or it's a rush job. Since it's Activision, it may be a combination of the two.
