@KratosMD The credits do say it's Chris Redfield as the voice actor and I think he's a playable character in the incoming DLC too though I maybe wrong there. I know they originally wanted RE to be first person but they weren't able to pull it off technically. The game does feel like a reimagining of the first one. I like how small everything is, the playable space isn't vast but they make great use of all the environments with some interesting back and forth.

@kyleforrester87 the moulded are my only problem with the game, the opening encounter shows how much scarier infected people are even if they aren't zombies. This is the best Resident Evil since number 2 for me and the first hour or so is quite nerve racking and I jumped or was scared on several occasions, it's just a shame the moulded dull this somewhat when they come into play. Shame we don't get more interesting enemies to tackle instead of them but the family is great and I love the classic Resi gameplay and not been constantly told where to go with on screen prompts, I hope they keep going down this path in future games but get rid of the generic monster design that started in zero and bring back zombies. Maybe remake the remake in this engine, VR first person Crimson Heads anyone?

@carlos82 yeah part of me doesn't want to say bring back the classic shuffling decomposing zombies because they've been done to death (lawl) but then I try to think of a better alternative and I can't. Zombies rock!

The side stepping awkward movement of the moulded make for some tense combat though, it can be hard to land head shots while one zig zags toward you. A standard zombie wouldn't be such a challenge in that respect. I turned autoaim off, I'm not sure how much easier it is with it on or if it's just a partial assist..

@kyleforrester87 I've swore at the screen so many times as they accidently dodged my bullets wasting my ammo andthen me forgetting I can block. I think I'd prefer to encounter the others they'd captured and have them behave like Mia did early on, just dialled down a bit. Great game so far though (currently going to a greenhouse), I may now have to get the season pass and at some point VR

Zombies will always be king 😃

Just finished it, fantastic game, great return to form. A lot of people have complained how the second half drags on, but I loved it especially the chance to play as Mia, she goes from this seemingly helpless, crazy damsel to a complete badass, easily one of my favorite parts of the game. For the ending I really liked ending 1, where Mia makes it out alive (didn't care for ending 2 where she doesn't, so I hope 1 is the cannon ending) and I actually wouldn't mind seeing her and Ethan back in some form, maybe even in a Revelations game. I like how they tie everything back in a bit and while many aren't fans of him, Chris Redfield actually is one of my favorite characters in the franchise and I'm looking forward to that teased DLC. Hopefully it'll manage to strike the balance of horror and action as well as 7 itself did.

@Gamer83 Mia was a surprisingly good character in the end. They did a pretty great job with her. I also liked the second half. You do have to change your play style to accommodate the change of pace but the when games have drawn out final sections like RE7 does I find it's best to throw yourself into it and plough through in one or two sessions. If you take regular breaks like you might do with the first part of the game you loose that sense of urgency that the game is trying to build on and the whole experience can get lost on you. I felt the same about Alien Isolation - playing through the last 4-5 hours of that in one hit was awesome, but a lot of people moaned it was too long and drawn out..

@kyleforrester87 Yeah, I was going to take a break right before you have to choose to save Mia or Zoe but I decided to keep playing and before I knew it I was at the end. Aside from the perspective change to first person and lack of annoying tank controls, the way this game plays out, especially with the faster pacing at the end, it really does feel much closer to classic RE than any of the recent entries, including the Revelations games, both of which I'm a big fan of. 7 is a great, natural evolution for the series though. I was a little skeptical about it but, imo, Capcom hit a homerun.

@Gamer83 That's quite a chunk of game to play through in one go, I spread it over 2 and it was enough! I did think I was closer to the end than I ended up being at the point you mention above. As you say, well played Capcom. Wonder what we'll get next? A police station and rookie cop no doubt lol

I haven't played this yet but from what you guys are saying, it looks like a game that'll be high up my to buy list

Gamer83

@crippyd If you've ever liked any of the past RE games, I can't imagine you wouldn't like this. Definitely worth it when you get a chance.

@Gamer83 TBH, I've never fancied a Resi game before, also it's a series that I've not had the console it has been on, so never had the chance either.

@crippyd
I'd actually recommend starting with the origins collection, then. Just to get a feel for what RE is all about. You could probably jump right into 7 and still enjoy it though if you're just looking for a good survival/horror experience.

@Gamer83 @KratosMD Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll just stick with 7 when I get round to buying it in the distant future. So little gaming time, so many games to play.

@KratosMD
I love old school RE so I would recommend it, but jumping right into 7 or playing 4 is certainly an option too. 7 is different enough that it really doesn't matter if you have prior knowledge or not, but it can add to the enjoyment.

Just finished the game and wow that really was great, so much better than I could have hoped for and it does feel a lot like the original with such a great story. This is the first time for a while that I now have high hopes for the future of the franchise, oh and I loved the birthday puzzle 😉

Any word on the Not a Hero free DLC? Or is this never coming out? If it's not out soon it's pointless bothering :/

Make it free and look what happens eh?

I'm thinking we'll hear something at TGS. Kind of ridiculous it's taking this long though. My guess is when they planned the dlc it was very horror focused like the main game, then saw the game released, they were not happy with the sales and decided to go back and re-work the dlc to make it more action heavy.

@kyleforrester87 no news yet but it's still coming apparently, well at the very least Capcom hasn't said it's been canned or anything

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

kyleforrester87

@Gamer83 Dunno about that, I think Capcom would be pretty happy with how RE7 performed (versus development/marketing costs especially). Not a Hero always struck me as a DLC that would be more action heavy anyway, although granted we don't know a great deal about it.

But I can't see Capcom favouring an action route overall for the franchise given how well RE7 was received.

I think it's just gone on to the back burner because it's a freebie.
