Topic: Remote Play EE 4G

Just a quick one here.

For a good while it's been standard that EE is no good for online gaming as the NAT type isn't suitable. I've never been able to connect to any of my EE phones as hotspots and get Remote Play to work so wrote it off.

Came across something yesterday that alters a few settings to the EE access point settings and seems to work a treat. Tried at home yesterday with my tablet and Vita, but I'll be giving it a whirl with my Vita on my break at work later.

So if you're on EE and want to use Remote Play and have never been able to - you can!

Relatively successful test!

Single player team starfighter game was playable, but certainly not ideal or near the smoothness of a more secluded setting.

The abundance of WiFi traffic on the 2.4g bands in the office is the most likely cultprit. The Vita was struggling maintaining a consistent framerate and the connection speed test was hugely variable.

Going to try it with my Z2 Tablet tomorrow and see if the undoubtedly better radio copes any better 😁

@KALofKRYPTON I have never been able to get a good experience when sat next to my router so well done!

I also tried with PSTV and a full controller in another room and wired into a Wifi extender and was far to patchy.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

There are a few things to do to get remote play to go well, and even then, external factors are always going to play a part.

I've mostly had pretty good experiences with it. It is a shame that the Vita's wifi radio is so weak though.

@Rudy_Manchego @KALofKRYPTON I've tried it on my phone and tablet, remote play works well for me. Until controller support comes, as you need to have android 10, it will be a no go for me though. Tbf it would not be something I would use a great deal. Maybe when I'm round my parents, but I tend to use that as an excuse to get out the Switch.

Yeah, it's a shame Sony stripped it and controller support out of their own phones and have the new app reliant on WiFi only.

My five year old Z2 Tablet came with it built in as well as native DS3/4 support.

My main aim here is testing how well it works tethered to my phone, as the NAT type has always been a barrier on EE.

As I said earlier, the multitude of WiFi signals in my office is a bit of a stumbling block for the Vita for a smooth experience - but it should be alright anywhere less busy.

Just ran a quick connection test for the tablet when tethered and the result was promising. Hopefully it fares better in the office than the Vita managed.

I tried remote play on my laptop that I picked up on Black Friday. It's ok I wouldn't play games like CoD or Overwatch on it, but single player games if the tv is in use is manageable. I played the Spyro Collection a few weeks ago and didn't get to many hiccups.

As suspected, the Xperia Z2 Tablet is able to maintain a much stronger connection in a busy WiFi environment. Performance is on par with my WiFi connection at home 😁🤘🏽

I've been trying for the last couple of weeks to get remote play working with my ee broadband.
What were the settings that you fiddled with?

Giz

KALofKRYPTON

@Giz
This was on my phone, but I'm assuming it'll work similarly. Does the EE BB run on 4G?

If so, do you have access to the network settings?

Nope, fibre broadband. I've got it to work using the same network as the PS4 at home flawlessly.
But it just will not connect with any other WiFi connection. The one I really want it to work on is my phone's hotspot (ee)

Ah, that's what I've been using.

For your phone it is remarkably simple assuming you're using an Android phone (I have no idea whether you have access to this stuff on iOS).

Get in to your network settings and find the 'Access point names' menu (probably in the advanced tab).

in there, you will have 2 APNs with 'EE Internet' selected as the default. Select that and note all of the details - I just screen-shotted them, we aren't doing anything to the 'EE everywhere' APN - but good to have the default settings saved.

Now back up and hit the '+' to add a new APN.

Name it whatever you want.. I put it as 'EE Fixed'

Set the following fields:
APN
default,DUN (write that exactly, case sensitive and no space after the comma)

Username
eesecure (write that exactly, case sensitive)

Password
secure

MCC
234

MNC
30

Authentication type
PAP

APN type
default, supl (write that exactly, case sensitive and no space after the comma)

APN protocol
IPv4

APN roaming protocol
IPv4

No other fields need anything doing.

Save the new APN via the 3 dot menu and back up. Select it and restart your phone

And that's pretty much it. You'll be able to connect to your phone hotspot for Remote Play using a Vita or other device with no NAT type failure.

I've been using these settings for the past week and running regular speed tests. I've had no network disruptions and my 4G speed hasn't been affected.

I've put all that in but it still doesn't work

Giz

KALofKRYPTON

@Giz did you restart?

Also, could you screenshot and share the settings?

@Giz-again BB code from a hosted site.

EE won't help, they never have.

Yeah that's what I have but also

APN enable/disable. Checked
MVNO type. None
MVNO value. None set

Giz-again-again

KALofKRYPTON

@Giz-again-again that shoukd be fine. If you're with EE directly then MVNO can be set to none.
Is the new APN the default selection when you go in to the menu?
