Topic: Race game that's like old Gran Tursimo

Just got GT Sport, I should have read about it, I assumed it would be like previous GT games. I loved the career mode, working my way through the races, etc. What a disappointment! I've had all previous GT games, was excited to finally have another, I didn't even read about it (my error!) just ordered, got it, then was like... what!!?

OK, so now I want a race game still that's like the older GT games, one that's not focused on online battles, but one where you just play, work your way up through the ranks, buy cars, upgrade, all that good old fun.
It looks like maybe Project Cars is like that? But now I'm gun shy to just order a game, worried it'll be another online race online people deal. Any tips, suggestions?

thanks!

OK thanks, I'll read that. I mainly want a 'local' race game, I hate all this online focused gaming where how you perform, depends on who exactly is your competition at that moment. I loved how GT used to be, if project cars is like that, where you can just 'play' , enter races, work your way up, then that might be my next purchase. I'll read that review, thanks!

I must be getting on for around 100 hours on Gran Turismo and I've never started a single online race.

At launch it was pretty basic with only licenses and challenges. But now it's full of single player content.

New stuff is being added all the time. Another new track is in this months update. All for free.

I'm a bit disappointed with Sport, it hasn't grabbed me like I hoped. It's all just a bit mundane and unexciting. I'll probably keep playing it, though. Driveclub was a lot more fun to play, and the Dirt games are better too.

I second Driveclub. Only played the single player stuff and there is so much content. So much fun playing and some awesome music to boot.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Who needs music in a racing game? It's ok in an arcade game since it can give extra feelings to the bare gameplay, but not in a sim or semi-sim game. When I race in Project Cars 2 I'm so focused on the track and on the car's smallest squeak and creaking that even a fly turns me mad!

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.

Driveclub, that sounds really good. I'm playing GT, might as well give it a go. It sure doesn't have the feel of the older GT games though. I miss the setup with all the race courses....

Oh yeah, music, I shut that off on any game I can, bugs the crap out of me lol

@ronpfid Driveclub doesn't have a lot (or any) of the set up stuff. It does have more "fun" but still somewhat simmy racing, and the tracks are brilliant, the point to point ones in particular.

It does run at 30fps but they have lots of visual effects to give it a good sense of speed and the graphics are great, although I guess it hasn't had a 4K or HDR update so it could be looking a little rougher these days actually.

But for the money.. do it!

Or get Dirt Rally 2.0 next month

Thanks Kyle, I will have to get that one next then. I just got GT Sport, only played it a little, played this morning and was shocked when I couldn't find the garage to buy upgrades... looked online and they took that away too! Morons! No turbo, no buying wings or wheels, or computer upgrades.. no driveline parts... oh man, that was the fun part, saving up to upgrade the engine, then going back to a race and smoking the competition... They got LAZY on this game for sure, just wanted to release something with the least effort and most profit.
