Hi guys I've got a problem with my PS4.

I went to play a game tonight and when I try to insert my disk it makes a weird noise and won't insert it, its like if there's already another disk inside it, but there isn't.

If anyone knows whats going could you please help.

Thing is I've got 70+ disk games so digitals not an option, thankfuli've got a Pro Christmas, guess I'll have to have it as an early Christmas present.

My PS4 is nearly 3 years old so its out of warranty, I think the plastic of the disk drive has dropped or the disk motors gone. I can't manually push the disk in though.

I got my PS4 on launch day 3 years ago. About a month ago noticed it doing some weird crap. I would get done playing and put it in rest mode and go to bed. When I'd wake up, the disc was ejected. Half hanging out of the mouth. It wouldn't push back in. Like you're describing. I'd have to power the Playstation all the way down. Not rest mode, but completely off. Then push the disc in. When the disc goes into the mouth it turns the system on and sucks the disc in. I tried forcing the disc in once while the system was already on and about halfway into the mouth of me forcing it, it decided to suck it the rest of the way in. I was like, great, problem solved. Until when I clicked on the game it had a grey icon with a zig zag going through it that said corrupted data and would not play. I about lost my bananas. Thought I ruined the disc plus managed to get it lodged in there. I hit eject and it came right out and made strage motor noises like you're describing and wouldn't go back in. So again, I powered the system completely down and pushed the disc in that way. One time, it actually ejected the disc while I was in the middle of a Nightfall in Destiny. That was fun. After about 3 weeks of fighting this the problem just went away all on its own. Weird. I had a PS4 Pro for a backup in a box I hadn't opened yet because I didn't have a 4K tv for it so I wasn't stressing too hard. But I did figure it was something mechanical with the loading and unloading. I had to send my Wii U to Nintendo to get worked on because you'd put the disc in and it wouldn't come on. It was under warranty but they told me it would cost "X" amount of dollars to repair it. I don't remember what that dollar amount was. I'm sure Sony works on consoles to but you'd be without one for about 3 weeks plus however much money it cost to fix it.

@PlaytendoGuy, I think I have your solution as I had the same problem a few weeks ago. It sounds like the PlayStation thinks you keep pressing the eject-button, hence the constant beeping. The problem is pretty common, and the solution not too difficult.

  • Step 1: Turn off your PS4 completely (not in rest mode, completely off!)
  • Step 2: Unplug your PS4 completely - the power cable needs to be disconnected.
  • Step 3: Press the power and eject buttons. It'll probably beep. Sometimes holding down the button works.
  • Step 4: Repeat the last step until the PlayStation stops responding. Normally this should take 1-5 times.
  • Step 5: Wait a few minutes.
  • Step 6: Connect your PS4, turn it on again and... hopefully everything will work perfectly again!

(Of course I can't guarantee this works. You could be facing bigger problems with your PS4, but this is something that happened to me and many of my friends in the last year. It seems to be a bug in many early PS4 models.)

@Kidfried: I've done this same thing with my launch PS4 when it had the same problem a few months ago and it still occurred. It's the main reason I upgraded to a PS4 Pro; warranty ran out and I decided to just dish the extra cash for the upgraded console. To be honest, it's a shame it has to happen.

Tried loads of different things like putting the console upright, updating through safe mode, pulling the plug out and power surging it and turn on the ps4 and repetitively press the eject button, but no dice.

I rang up Sony and they told to try and tighten up a eject screw and if that don't work it needs fixing, gonna cost an initial £125 plus vat and labour, not work imo.
