Yep! Those are the 2tb hybrid drives I referenced (I guess the are 7mm or 9.5mm, either way, they should fit!). They seem to be tough to come by right now (sold out or delayed shipping). I might just backorder it from NewEgg and hope for the best.

Hi All I am a tad confused I bought a ps4 pro on friday and playing games that have not got 4k support the games are still running at 4k res should that be happening with the console set to auto resolution ?
That being said its certainly showing a boost in performance on destiny even if the game doesnt have enhanced support for the console.
Games like pro evolution soccer 2017 have got 4k support but dont see any settings to turn it on or does it come on automatcially?

What am I missing guys ?

@Ypmud: It depends on the game. If a game only has 1 'mode' when played on a PS4 Pro, there are NO options. It just plays at the enhanced level - whatever level the developers have decided. Destiny doesn't have any support and runs identically to the standard PS4 version. When a game is unsupported, the PS4 Pro switches off half its GPU and downclocks everything to the same standard as the PS4 to ensure that non-supported games run in exactly the same way.

A game like Titanfall 2 automatically switches to the higher resolution when played on a PS4 Pro. If the Pro is connected to (or forced into) 1080p res, you still get the higher resolution but downsampled to 1080p. There is NO selection, nothing to change, its automatic as there is no alternative option. A game like Rise of the Tomb Raider gives you choice which are selectable from the options menu screen.

I don't have PES but IF it does have an enhanced version, it would be automatic - its not giving you a choice to play at a higher resolution or higher frame rate, not giving you a choice of an enhanced 1080p mode or 4k standard visual settings. Its not giving you a choice of HDR on or off - its just 1 option so nothing to choose/select - Its not like you are able to choose PS4 or PS4 Pro enhanced option - like Titanfall 2 it just plays at the higher resolution on a Pro.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Oh right I was a tad confused as my tv was not changing resolution at all it was staying at 4k 2160p even though the resolution was set to automatic i thought it changed the res and downscaled res if the game didnt support enhanced mode like destiny ??

@Ypmud: No!!!

The games will always play at what ever standard they are. A game like Destiny though will be 'upscaled' (stretched out to fit the screen) either by your Pro or if you connected your old PS4 to a 4k TV, by the television itself.
If you have a 4k TV, and watch any HD content, like Blurays or TV shows that output to 1080p, the TV stretches the image to fit the full screen otherwise you would end up with 3/4's of the screen just black. What the Pro (and XB1s) does is stretch it out to fit before sending the signal to the TV so you always get a 2160p output - its just handling the upscaling rather than letting the TV do it but the games are still 1080p (or less).
I have been gaming on a 4k TV for well over a year - probably 2years+ now. There is no difference between a 1080p Game (like Destiny) being upscaled by the TV on a PS4 or being upscaled by the PS4 Pro before it reaches the TV - its still a native 1080p game. Upscaling like this is very different to what checkerboard rendering does so don't think that these games are 4k because that's what the output says. The older consoles could only output to 1080p so a game like Battlefront (900p) was stretched to 1080p before being sent to the TV and if the receiving TV was 2160p, it would stretch that image to 4k to fill the screen. Now if you play Battlefront, the PS4 Pro would stretch that 900p out to 2160p (still natively rendering 900p) instead of it being stretched twice by 2 different devices.
Does that make sense?
Upscaling in this sense is basically stretching an image out to fit the screen size. Downsampling is the opposite which shrinks the image down to fit a lower resolution screensize.

yeah i was a tad confused as to why my sony telly was showing 2160p when i was convinced that the game was only 1080p, ok i checked ratchet and clank in 4k and couldnt notice much difference however my ps4 says my tv doesnt support hdr10 however it is a older hdr tv so can do some hdr and when looking at lighted areas boy did i notice the difference, I havent checked out deus ex in 4k yet but ive heard mixed reviews about that but im looking forward to horizon. I am waiting for next weekend to test the last guardian (i know you dont think much about it) but it does look like it could be interesting at 4k and also thinking of getting tomb raider however I havent finished the first one yet, has anyone tried shadow of mordoor in 4k yet ?

@Ypmud: Output to TV is very different to what the native resolution is. Your PS4 always outputted everything at 1080p and whilst most games were 1080p, those that weren't were always upscaled (stretched) to 1080p because that was the resolution the PS4 outputs at. It didn't drop the output down to 900p for example for Star Wars: Battlefront.
The PS4 Pro outputs everything at 2160p (although can be forced to output at 1080p) so does the upscaling before sending a 2160p signal to the TV. The games are still running at their native level in the GPU. If you were to connect a PS4 to a 4k TV, the TV would upscale in the same way to fit the image to screen. a 1080p native image would have a black border all around it and the image would occupy a quarter of the screen in the middle.
If you were to force the Pro into 1080p, Destiny wouldn't look any different as the TV would upscale that to 2160p instead of the Pro. It really depends on where you want the upscaling handled. I leave my Pro on 2160p so I don't have to keep changing it for enhanced, higher resolution games.

Digital Foundry did a breakdown of Deus Ex on the Pro and found that it was indeed better to play on the Pro - just (if I remember correctly). The new Tomb Raider is a great game - it was one of my favourites of 2015 when I first played it. I am yet to start it on my Pro as I have games I haven't yet played/finished where as I know the story of Tomb Raider. It improves a lot on the reboot in almost every area - although I do find the Story itself a little weaker but because the game play etc is better, I enjoyed it more - highly recommended.
I thought Shadow of Mordoor was a 1080p game on Pro. I thought the enhancements were only visual settings - higher quality etc. I thought the developers opted to do an enhanced 1080p mode much like one of the Tomb Raider modes. Not a game I have myself...

Just started Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 Pro. I beat the game (completed the campaign to 100%) on XB1 last year when it released and it became my 2nd favourite game of 2015 (behind the Witcher 3). On the Pro though the 4k resolution mode is incredible. It was stunning on my XB1 (original) so should look great on a standard PS4 but 4k mode looks much better. Only completed around 17% of the campaign so far and haven't yet reached some of the spectacular and more demanding areas yet or tried any of the DLC extras either. I did compare with the visually enhanced 1080p mode but 4k is definitely superior in my opinion. I will try the 1080p mode again in other areas too.
I highly recommend this game to anyone - especially those that enjoyed the reboot. TF2 may have deserved to sell more copies but so does this. Don't let the deal with MS put you off as this is the definitive console version!

Digital foundry have just released a video looking at the best games for PS4 Pro at 4k, with HDR and 1080p.

If you were looking for the 'best' (as in those that use the hardware the best) games to use your new Pro, then maybe this video may help you. It will of course depend on your TV as the HDR section for example states that some 'cheap' HDR TV's can actually make the visuals appear worse.

I dont know if its just me but the unit seems a touch longer and has an overhang on my tv stand!

@kyleforrester87: Haha, had this weird bug on the menu home screen. When scrolling it was juddering everywhere. so crazy had to restart the system. My tv has a 300nit hdr range (the worst type of her apparently) but It seems to be incompatible with the pro so I've turned deep colour off as a precaution after searching online.

Made up with the bigger hard drive though and downloading infamous second son for a proper 4k game later tonight! May actually get further than the intro this time. So 4k with no hdr looks like my pro future which is disappointing but it is a cheap 4k tv so I was kind of expecting some payback as the input lag is actually better than my old tv set up.

How do I do this?
I've now got to swap my old PS4s primary status to my ps4 pro. I haven't traded information over an ethernet cable as I wanted a fresh start without rebuilding the database in a few weeks time. My saves are on the cloud and I've logged in as my profile on the pro. And another thing what's the benefit of one ps4 being primary over another?

@kyleforrester87: Haha 😆 Only time will tell brother! Good thing about updating now, I can recoup some dosh on ebay with my old ps4 and use the retail infamous and fallout 4 pack ins as a bit of leverage to get £120 or so. So actually not upgrading especially amongst big ps fans like us forum users is a bit daft. A bigger 1tb HDD and new pad is £100 which I would have bought anyway. So after a bit of soul searching my wife's bought me a top present and saved me money.

So far the pros are; the light on the new pad, the better latency using the new pad (it feels instantaneous now), the bigger hdd, the pro looks pretty meaty which I like and a slight but noticeable improvement downloading stuff.

The negatives are; weird setup on my TV with HDR, glitchy OS on original setup, no pro pack in Demo disc, lack of wow factor as I already own a PS4.
