@KratosMD I think it's by design because the launch in the air after perfect dodge is only one of three things that you can do. You launch into the air because you push square, try triangle and R1, they will give you different moves. I use them when I identify an enemy that can't be launched mid air; a little hard when you're pushing square so much but can certainly be done.

Just finished Nier Automata and got the platinum. Turns out you can't buy all the trophies. You have to get all 5 endings (I ended with 7), very reasonable I think. After 40 hours and seeing all endings here are my thoughts:

-Soundtrack is amazing. It the best that I've heard in any game ever.
-Was initially frustrated. I had major performance issues & I expected more from the combat. I regretted my purchase in the first 20-25 hours and I had to force myself to play it.
-3rd playthrough, everything changes. Can't go into it without spoiling, but WOW.

Right up to that third playthrough the game was a 7 for me, but having finished its a 9. The way the game picks up is incredible.
Its a masterpiece only held back by performance issues.

Nioh, Horizon, Gravity Rush 2 and Nier, I couldn't pick between them. Next week Persona 5. What a start to the year!

I haven't had much time for the PS4 lately (work and family etc) but at the end of the summer my wife is going on holiday with the kids - whilst I stay at home and work. In the evenings I'm going to thrash this. I absolutely love Platinum and this looks amazing.

I know that I've already asked this but I just want to be more clear about it. If I leave unfinished side quests during a playthrough and finish the game, do they just reappear in a new playthrough while keeping the side quests that I've already finished staying like that?

I really want to finish the game once before I start playing P5 and I'm near the end of my first playthrough right now so I don't really want to bother with side quests right now.

@KratosMD When you clear it the third time you open up chapter select and can restart at any point of the game. Each chapter has a list of possible side quests during that chapter along with those completed already, so you can very easily go back and tie up all the loose ends.

The only thing to consider is quests that have been half finished when you complete the game will be fully restarted.

My advice is to just plough on to the ending.

@kyleforrester87 "The only thing to consider is quests that have been half finished when you complete the game will be fully restarted."

Well that's gonna be an issue, because I have some of those half-finished so I'll need to get to finish them before I finish the game and they are really a pain in the butt (Speed Star and the Dojo Guy in particular). Thanks for telling me that though!

KratosMD

kyleforrester87

@KratosMD Hmmm is Dojo guy an on going quest or is it broken up to mark it as completed each time you beat him? Can't remember for sure but I think it goes into your completed quests log each time you defeat him.. Quests that are split up like that shouldn't be affected.

@kyleforrester87 Oh, okay. Then I guess I have nothing to worry about, I'll just go through the story missions and see to it that I finish the game today.

KratosMD

kyleforrester87

@KratosMD Cool, I just checked and have "Robo Dojo-Brown belt" and "Black-belt" etc in my completed quests log, so yeah, you don't need to complete the entire chain.

I really want to play it again now I've got the disc in haha.

@kyleforrester87 Have you already gotten 100% in the game?

I'm almost done with the story mode now and I think I'll be completely done with it later today. I seriously love it, the levels, the characters, the narrative and so on don't entirely make sense but that's what makes the game so unique. It dares to be different, even in weird ways. Most games are just trying to follow realism and what makes sense and what doesn't but I'd rather play games that play out surrealistically like this one. It gives you a different kind of experience and that's what I want from video games after having experiencing so many throughout my gaming career.

KratosMD

kyleforrester87

@KratosMD You nearly cleared the story mode entirely or just the first run? If its the whole thing that was quick! Haha.

Yeah, this kind of surrealist story is way more interesting to me than a by the numbers story like Horizons. As much as I enjoy that game the story just doesn't intrigue me like Niers does. I only mention Horizon as they are both about robots taking over the world lol.

I'm not 100% no, only 49% so plenty to go back to. Also you get a choice at the end, and you can immediately reload and try the other choice.. I've yet to try the other one. So I've got that to do, half the side quests and some other endings to get at some point.

@kyleforrester87 Haha sorry, poor choice of words. Need to get more sleep, lol. But yeah, first playthrough of course.

Agreed. It's easy to surprise people when telling a surrealistic story because they simply don't know what to expect. Obviously there are plot twists in usual story-telling fashion but even they've become old nowadays. Surrealism is the way to go from here!

Haha really? I am actually at 30% of completed side quests (but I'm guessing that number is only for the first playthrough?) and I've gotta say that they are truly unique. Definitely worth trying to complete each and every one of them.

KratosMD

kyleforrester87

@KratosMD Nah the quest completion stats follow over to further play throughs. Basically don't worry about them, it'll all make sense once you've unlocked chapter select after 3rd play through

I just finished the first playthrough now. I don't know what some people are on about regarding the ending not being good. I thought it was very satisfying and I don't know how this could extend into more playthroughs based on what I've experienced so far. If the first playthrough was this good, then I'm very intrigued over how the next ones will be!

I also experienced my first freeze of the game during the last mission. What a coinkydink, huh.

KratosMD

kyleforrester87

@KratosMD Yeah there is nothing really wrong with any of the three main play trough's really. I suppose the second can seem kinda repetitive in places but its not that bad.

Anyone been playing this gem since the last patch? Im having a little go this evening and that annoying stuttering in the open areas seems far reduced, which is nice.

Regarding the DLC, what are coliseums? Just arena battles I suppose?

I brought this yesterday and am loving it. The only thing that I have a question about is the settings menu. Is it supposed to be all garbled with what looks like computer code? It's impossible to tweak settings that I can't read!

Talkshowhost

kyleforrester87

@Talkshowhost Glad you're enjoying it, its really good! Not sure what you mean regarding the unreadable settings though? Will double check tonight, I know there is some weird glitch effect going on with the fonts but I don't recall it making any of the options unreadable?

Question: Can you not use your pod special when playing as 9s? I press the L2 button and nothing happens at all, but when I'm 2b it utilizes the pod special. Am I missing something?
