I'm seriously infatuated by the soundtrack now. Just arrived at the Machine Village and the track there is so mysterious and captivating. The game has been so far really bizarre and I love it.

Also, very cool that they are referencing the french philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre in the game as a robot in the Machine Village. He worked extensively with existentialism and I loved reading about his thoughts about the subject. Very nice!

@KratosMD I've seen hints at that (I'm still early in the game). It does seem like they're going to explore some interesting concepts through the game. The feeling I was getting was specifically absurdist, but that might be my own bias at play.

And just to clarify - there's an actual robot called Sartre??

@VotesForCows He's not called Sartre in the game, only Jean-Paul. But it's obvious they are referring to Sartre because of the robot talking about existentialism in the game and mentioning things like "Existence precedes essence", which he used to say a lot.

There seem to be other references to real-life people as well in the game, which is cool!

@KratosMD I'd say Sartre would be happy to know that his memory lived on some 9,000 years after his death!

@KratosMD I'm in the same boat... the OST is amazing. I cannot wait until it's released later this month! I just started my 3rd playthrough, no spoilers but did anyonce else notice a pretty significant difficulty spike on the 3rd playthrough?

The soundtrack is awesome.

My copy was finally delivered yesterday. I'm hoping to give it a go this weekend. I was already excited about this game but reading everyone's thoughts about it makes me even more.

I love how everyone are on their second or third playthrough of the game already while I'm back here chilling in the first couple of hours of my first playthrough, lol.

@KratosMD I absolutely cained it last weekend (like 22 hours over 48 hours) - felt quite ill until like Tuesday haha. Won't be able to play much now until Sunday evening

@kyleforrester87 I'm ashamed to admit I had to drop back down to normal difficulty at the start of my 3rd. I was able to put it back to hard a bit later, but that 3rd playthrough intro is nuts.

I said it with the Last Guardian, but I play A LOT of games and forget most of them. I don't think I'll forget about this one! So good

I'm not sure how many brazilians are in this website, but there has been a recall for some physical editions of Nier Automata here. From what I understood, they weren't allowing patches to be installed; anyone with a troubled copy should contact the distributor - IGN Brasil has the details.

Just finished the 3rd "play through" - awesome, what a game. Going to play around with it some more but think I've seen the bulk of what it has to offer (unless there are any more mental surprises in store?) and I've got half the side quests to finish.

I really hope they carry this series on somehow. Why can't Final Fantasy be this good?!

@kyleforrester87 Well apparently you still have two more playthroughs to go if you really want to "finish" the game.

Haha, you really think NieR is better than FFXV (which I'm guessing you're referring to)? Interesting.. maybe I need to put Zelda aside for now and play more of this game.

My love-hate relationship with Nier Automata continues...
After finishing Horizon I finally got back to it last night. In my 2nd playthrough, as I was in a hacking cutscene the game crashed on me. I actually thought it was a weird '4th wall breaking' moment that I've come to expect from weird Japanese games (Freedom Wars). Nope game just crashed, lost about an hour of progression.

This coupled with freezes when I exit the menu or enter the machine village as well as the voice acting being off during cutscenes is really affecting my enjoyment of what is otherwise a great game.

Speaking of weird things happening in this game, is it just me or does it seem like 80% of the time when you dodge the attacks of enemies at the perfect time and attack and thus initiate the auto-air attack, that most of them don't follow you up in the air? I don't even know if that's intentional or not, but I feel like it happened more frequently in the beginning of the game and now that feature is more or less broken for me. Now I just try to avoid using the dodge mechanic so I don't waste time doing nothing in the air.

kyleforrester87

@KratosMD Yeah I was never sure if it was intentional or not, or if I was missing another aspect of the combo to get them up into the air with me. I've found Platinums combat systems to have lots of little aspects that are easy to miss so I wouldn't be too surprised, but yeah it does seem a bit weird so who knows. In the end when it happened I just followed through with a downward attack to keep bringing on the pain.

@kyleforrester87 That could be. Perhaps you have to lower their health to below 50% in order to make them weak enough for you to bring them up in the air. The problem about being in the air with all the enemies below you is that if you do a downward attack, you risk getting attacked by enemies with ongoing attacks that you couldn't see. It's happened to me numerous times now and it discourages me so much to do that attack.

I've been playing the game for about 12 hours or so now and I gotta say that when the world opens up more and you are introduced to more side quests, the game becomes so much better. I really love the side quests. They have simple structures that we've seen in games before but because it involves machines mixed with human feelings they feel so unique. Also, seeing the interaction between 2B and 9S when doing these quests is golden. It gives the game much more personality.
