So I just brought uncharted on ps3 and played it for the first time tbh I thought the shooting was fine but godamm that final boss was the worst one ever made it was so cheap and horrible at least after beating it I was so relieved the game was awesome cant wait to get number 2 don't know if I should get the nd collection or just get number 2 & 3 on ps3 for really cheap

@SKC_Diamond: As someone who owns all 3 on PS3 and the Nathan Drake collection on PS4, I would recommend the ND collection. The shooting mechanics are more consistent across all 3. The visuals are stunning - maybe not quite as good as some PS4 only games but stunning none the less. It's also at a very smooth 60fps too. The only reason to get 2 and 3 on PS3 would be for any MP experience. Both 2 and 3 added an MP but the shooting feels a bit different. Personally I didn't mind the difference and barely noticed as I played each on release (2 years apart). Also I had played a number of other 3rd person cover shooters in between. The 3rd had a patch about a week or two after I finished it to give players the more traditional 'Uncharted' feel.

Like I said though, the Nathan Drake collection feels consistent across all 3. I know the games look stunning on PS3 - I still maintain Uncharted 3 is the most visually impressive game on gen 7 consoles but they look better on PS4 and the 60fps feels very smooth. It has a few 'extra' challenges/trophies and unless you want MP, I would recommend this. Its around £20-25 (new) at the moment if you shop around - I don't know if that's too expensive for you as I know the PS3 versions can be found cheaper.

I see a lot of people talking about the story of the game being a very strong point, I got the feeling that it was the same old story told 3 times:

We start by wondering if hes still with his girlfriend - arguably only after the first one, finds a lead to an artifact, gets betrayed somehow, annoys girlfriend even more, discovers the place the artifact is hidden, artifact is bad news, still decides to go and grab it somehow, artifact is worse news than previously though, not stopping him, things go to s**t quite obviously, somehow saves the day, girlfriend is saved and back in love with him. Rinse and repeat 3 times.

Did I miss anything? They better step up their game with the storytelling because I don't want to be playing the same game for the 4th time and still wondering, when the hell will Nathan learn that instead of looking for whatever artifact he's looking for this time around, and helping bad guys getting to it in the process, he should stay at home eating cadbury caramel nibbles with his wife - if he hasn't done something to wrong here in the last few years, AGAIN!

The shooting is what turns me off of Uncharted completely. The guns sound dumb, the aiming mechanics feel floaty, and the bullets just don't work as well as they should. It's unpopular opinion, but the Uncharted games were always 'bargain bin' games for me. I am hoping the gunplay is more refined in Uncharted 4, but only time will tell.

I did enjoy the multiplayer beta for 4. Thought the shooting was ok on that but i don't really play alot of shooting games.

I personally enjoy the shooting in it much more than something like The Division. I found most of the guns felt good to use etc.

@xX_RiscazZ_Xx: I do see your point about the same story over and over, but I think when people say the story in Uncharted is good, that isn't what they mean. The story is pretty average, but I think it's told in a way that is really enjoyable to play. For example, James Bond is the same story over and over but people still enjoy the books/films.
Saying that, I do think Uncharted 4 being the last in the series will mean Naught Dog put a different story together for us

@mrobinson91: Maybe mate. But If I revert back to muttering to myself, the rest of the story before it even unfolds, I will be bored as hell. I like a game for it's storytelling, I like the cliffhangers and twists and turns. Uncharted just felt so predictable, even the first one, you KNEW it was a bad idea to go searching for that from the get go, and every step in that direction indicated that he would screw it all up and end up having to bury the treasure and come home empty handed. And again. And then yet again, but this time with flashbacks. I played it like it was my duty to, so I could catch up with previous events before giving U4 a chance, I don't want it to feel like a chore again, if you know what I mean.

But in all fairness, the cut scenes were great, platforming was excellent and the game had it's brilliant moments, it was just too cringe worthy of a story to tell, specially when you have already told it 3 times by now.

@xX_RiscazZ_Xx: Totally understand....by the looks of things U4 should add something new to the story to keep everyone happy

@mrobinson91: I agree with the story - the plot is recycled but it is the characters, pacing and set pieces that really make it. Feels like an 80's action film that is playable.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@xX_RiscazZ_Xx: Yeah the predictable arc of all 3 is frustrating. But the actually conversations and camaraderie of the team and characters, combined with the realistic acting and voice work really sets it apart from most other games. Hopefully with 4, the story is great and believable, rather than baddy x arriving last minute to snatch the treasure.

I get the feeling that the story in 4 is going to be far more grounded and personal than the other three. It'll still have high-stakes adventure and cool set pieces, but from what little they've said about story, I think the action is going to be downplayed somewhat. The focus will equally be on Drake's relationships with his brother, Elena and Sully, and I'm looking forward to seeing that unfold as well as all the amazing locations and mysterious treasures.

Only a month (ish) to go!

@themcnoisy: I actually didn't mean the collectibles! I just meant the treasures that Drake's after in the story, I'm totally with you on the trinkets you can find - not bothered by them at all

@Quintumply: For me, I love the collectibles. In every game both PS3 and PS4 versions, I have collected every Treasure including the special 1 too. In Uncharted 4, with its Wide-Linearity, I can see myself zig-zagging all over the place, checking every conceivable route, nook and cranny to find every single treasure. The 20mins 'Chapter 10' play throughs that have been 'allowed' out, would take me an hour or two to get to that same point judging by what I have seen - just checking every path, every cave, every dilapidated building etc - seems to get a lot of random dialogue between the characters too so could be more interesting and fun...

@SKC_Diamond: Personally I think Uncharted 3 is by far the best looking game on any console last generation! As a game and story, I think it's only slightly weaker than Uncharted 2 was but has some incredible set pieces. There was 1 sequence/chapter that most people (I think) struggled with (Boats??) and I think the change they initially implemented with the shooting mechanics also had an impact on peoples perception but I really enjoyed it. By saying its not as 'good' as 2 is not that much of a 'criticism' really although I know some people preferred 3 overall, the difference is minimal. They are both incredible games. I do wonder if because 3 didn't push the series beyond what 2 achieved, if that's why it's not regarded the best in some peoples eyes? From 1-2 there was a noticeable difference in the scale and set-pieces but not so noticeable between 2 and 3 - the biggest differences were in the MP I think.

If/when you do pick it up, you can judge for yourself of course. If you do find the shooting mechanics a bit different, you can revert back to '2's' via the option but I didn't fond them an issue. I had completed the game before it officially released and collected every treasure so I didn't actually find it an issue myself.

@BAMozzy: Don't know; The Last of Us is my personal favourite Naughty Dog game now and it looks even better than Uncharted 3 in my opinion.

Octane

BAMozzy

@Octane: Each to their own - I thought that looked all drab and dull by comparison. I know its in keeping with the theme but it also meant that it all ended looking very similar throughout and was very 'empty' feeling. I can't remember being amazed at anything in particular, where I just had to stop and admire the scenery, the detail etc.

The incredible places that Uncharted 3 takes you to just look more inviting, more spectacular, more detailed, brighter etc. The fact these places are more densely populated and still retain a very high level of detail - whether that's walking through the busy market and seeing all the Persian rugs in intricate detail and all the other stalls selling goods, the various roof tops and scenery they provided - even the Bar at the start which was very detailed and reminiscent of a few pubs I have been in - its better than the drab, pretty empty overgrown landscape of the Last of Us where each chapter seems to look like the last (with a few exceptions like the opening and the 'Ellie' chapter).

I am not saying the Last of Us was a bad looking game but it wasn't as technically impressive or as detailed as Uncharted 3's. It still looked like a Naughty Dog game in its character models but it certainly lacked the variety, the detail, the 'wow' factor in my opinion.

@BAMozzy: Uncharted 3 was a lot more colourful and more pleasant to look at, but from a technical perspective, I thought The Last of Us was a lot better. Lighting and shadows look a lot better, and seeing the whole game in motion was a step up from Unhcarted 3 I think. Still, both are fantastic games, but TLOU is just a tad better in those aspects I think.
