The past few days I have not been able to read any new messages. The notification sends me to 'Messages' but then it immediately closes. Manually opening 'Messages' shows nothing, as if I've never had any. New messages are also not showing up on the phone app.
Is this happening to anyone else? I hope it's something to do with the network issue and not something specifically wrong on my end.
@KingDedede I assume you're talking about on the PS4 itself rather than on this website, correct? I've not been having those issues myself... have you tried restarting the console?
@KingDedede Yep, this has happened to me before. I had a particularly long message chain going with my best friend, filled with screencaps and long paragraphs, and it just froze up on me everywhere; crashed my PS4 if I tried to access it, locked me out of the mobile app. Everything was fine on her end, though. Eventually, when I did get in, I "left" all message chains and didn't message my best friend for almost five months. When we eventually risked it again, it worked fine.
We assumed it was because of the volume of messages we'd sent one another; do you have a lot of message chains going, screencaps and whatnot? If so, give it a break for a while and see if PSN stabilises in your absence. If not, I have no further suggestions, I'm afraid.

@antdickens Yeah I was talking about on PS4 and also on the PlayStation Messages phone app. @RogerRoger I barely ever send messages so it wasn't related to high-volume.
I just started having this problem about a week or so ago and it's annoying... I was recently added to a group message and I normally use the app to message friends and whatnot but it affected the messages on the Ps4... none of them show up I'll receive notifications from group message or if a friend messages me but when I click on it nothing shows up... this gotta be a problem with Sony smh
