I really hope its a lot better than Mafia 2. It gave the impression of an open world but then there was hardly anything to do apart from the main story missions and half the time seemed to be spent driving. If its a lot more open world with side missions I might consider it.
Mafia 3 looks visually good and has some 'interesting' concepts - like managing your 3 'generals' and the perks that can bring (or enemies you can make) but man the game-play looks very repetitive, average and predictable - Particularly the combat. drive to a place, cover and shoot, cover and shoot, cover and shoot, drive to another place, cover and shoot, throw a molotov, cover and shoot etc etc
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
I'm really enjoying the game so far. The setting and soundtrack are outstanding. The gameplay while not new or ground breaking is still fun. The voice acting and cutscenes are top notch...

Mafia 3 = HHHYYYYYYPPPPEEEE! Is what I've been saying a lot on the site lately. But does it live up to it? So the sequel to my favourite game of all time has finally arrived and I am wondering what people's opinions on the game so far are. Mine are down below:
Been playing for about an hour now. Seems very very good so far. We're in good hands! The driving is absolutely on point still and the combat/shooting is very engaging. The combat is visceral and you can pull off lots of fun brutal takedowns with a huge variety of animations. The gameplay itself is actually similar to Mafia 2 itself. The story and characters is also looking to be excellent. The way it's presented and the way characters are introduced is very unique and interesting. I'm not sure about the actual world as I have only really been in the shanty district so I'm not sure how it compare to the beloved empire bay yet. Haven't met Vito, Cassandra or Burke yet. It's also great how the developer has the courage to really investigate the racism and discrimination of the 60's and they really don't hold back. I have not encountered any bugs or glitches so far. However, I know that PC users are having problems at the moment. My one complaint is I bought the deluxe edition and it is a shame it doesn't include any physical items like an artbook. I definately think you should buy this game. Big thumbs up!
Since The Fractured But Whole is delayed I've decided to get my preorder refunded. Tempted to get Mafia 3 with the money. I'll wait a week or two just to be sure the reviews are ok.
@JeffTurboWizard: I'd definately recommend buying the game, especially if you liked Mafia II. But then, obviously, that's only my opinion and it is your choice to make.
@JeffTurboWizard: No, it shouldn't do. The protagonist of the second game is in it, but he is only a side character. I think you will enjoy it as a newcomer to the series and although the reactions have been very positI've got the game, the few complaints don't seem valid t me as a console gamer and in the context of Mafia II's limitations.
@kyleforrester87 In the opening hours, it is similar to Mafia II in which it is a linear game with an open world structure. It is a lot more realistic and physics-focused than GTA. It is also a lot better than GTA in my opinion. I also don't feel it's very similar to GTA at all really. I'd full heartedly recommend the game. You can always just get the standard edition if you're still not sure about it.
@SPGFan34 - "it is also a lot better than GTA in my opinion" I know it's just your opinion but honestly what does Mafia 3 offer that GTA doesn't? Not just story wise but as an open-world game as a whole?
