Topic: is the light bar the reason the DualShock 4 has a shorter battery life than the DualShock 3?

Prolly a short discussion but am I the only one who wanders if the light bar is one of the reasons the DualShock 4's battery life is so short? according to my google search the DualShock 4 has a 4-8 hour battery life compared to the DualShock 3's 28-30 hour battery life, seriously, what happened?

Well it’s probably a reason, I mean it’s an extra light. But it won’t be sucking much extra.

Didn’t they just use batteries with less capacity in the DS4 controllers? I think I read that.

@GingerSilent maybe but people tend to forget that while not as big the DS3 also had a constantly on light on it too

but the DS4 also has other things to that could drain it like speaker and the touch pad so while the bigger light will be a bit of a drain it's not the only drain on the battery

1000mha battery in DS4 and 1800mha in DS3. I might be wrong on those numbers but I’m confident the DS4 just has less capacity. You can put aftermarket batteries with more capacity in your PS4 controllers.

I don't know I don't see the short battery life of the DS4 that everyone talks about. Although I didn't own a PS3 so I can't compare it to that and also when I am done playing a game or whatever I put mine right back on the charger. If it is 4 to 8 hours that's might be another reason I don't notice it as I only tend to game for a couple of hours at a time.

@Genrou compared to PS3 they are short. PS3 controllers seemed to go on forever and ever.

@Genrou right there with you. Even from launch I've never really had that much of an issue. Haven't gamed for 4+ straight hours probably since I was a teenager.

It’s interesting to hear other people’s perspectives, and honestly I don’t hate the DualShock 4 for its battery life I just found the DualShock 3’s to more convenient is all
