Topic: I'm giving up on...

This is the thread for a game you decide you're not going to finish or continue playing.

I'll kick off with Dishonored 2.

Why?

I have no problems with often saving, dying and reloading, but the wait is way too long and the stealth often doesn't even feel engaging.

I'm only in the third mission now. Also... all the missable collectibles are stressing me out.

I knew this game wasn't goty material, so I already came in with low expectations. Unfortunately not low enough. Man...

I might pick this up again someday, but for now it's best I play something else.

OH nice idea

anyway here goes Shenmue 3

i had waited years for this game (and i mean years) and was so excited when it came along but while the first 2 are still fun for some reason the third just didn't click with me, it felt lifeless and dull and not to mention it apparently doesn't even finish the story, they were lucky to even make and release this one so you would think they would take the chance to finish it because there is no guarantee that they will be doing another

so i'm done and i guess you can say i'm done with the entire series too because i'm not willing to invest in something that i don't think has any chance of actually finishing

second is Assassin's Creed, the eniter series and it's simple, they aint Assassin's Creed games anymore, they are just a bland open world RPG now, the Modern Day stuff has basically been rebooted (and with a dull protagonist) and the game play while fun also has some HUGE issues such as basically locking you from progressing by making enemies unkillable until you reach a certain level thus forcing you to do side quests

IF YOU HAVE TO DO THEM TO PROGRESS THEN THEY AINT SIDE QUESTS, THEY ARE MANDATORY MISSIONS and forgive me but one of the great things about the old AC games is i had the freedom to play them in the way I chose too

they ran it into the ground with the yearly releases

third Mario Kart and simply put, they are too easy, i was playing 8 online yesterday and never lost a race

fourth Pokemon same S*** different region

@FullbringIchigo On Shenmue III, as a fan of the series, I'm glad that it seems there will be more, but I think you're right. I think they'll just about manage to make Shenmue 4, but can the goodwill stretch to a fifth entry in the series? I don't think it will, and then we're back to square one.

As for me, I've given up on a few games recently, it's something I'm getting better at as I get older. Outlast 2, Mafia 3 and Mad Max are just a few of the recent casualties.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@KratosMD yeah i know BUT i have 8 on the Wii U not the switch, i never saw the point in buying it again plus i don't play online much to begin with, i'm not a big online player

on a side note the online on the Wii U version is still really active and i find that surprising

I gave up on Blood and Truth recently, a few missions in, it is a good game, but I didn't love it. Can't say I was all that interested in the plot or characters. For PSVR I much preferred Astro Bot Rescue Mission, that was fantastic.

I think I've finished with RAD. I understand it is a rogue-like but starting back form the very start every time you die is quite a laborious. Dead Cells had the right idea as you could blitz through each area really quickly and shortcuts could be found. Also the combat did not feel as repitive like in RAD.

I'm always giving up on games mostly because they have stopped engaging with me, I get bored of playing with them and can't be bothered to go back to them. Especially if I'm inbetween games and have not found one that 'sticks' with me yet.

I'm quickly reaching that point with Dragon Quest 2. It's an OLD JRPG, and, even in the mobile port with new sprite work, rebalanced difficulty, and a quick save option, I'm just finding the experience to be dreadfully boring. FF1 released the same year as it and, honestly, I find it to be a much more engaging experience (especially the superior GBA remake, which I've been playing through with my young cousin).

I also gave up on Tearaway and Final Fantasy IX last year.

It's not very often I don't complete a game, even if it's just reaching the end of the story. I only tend to buy stuff I have a pretty good idea I will like. That being said I have both MGS V and Dying Light sitting unfinished but that's mainly due to other games coming along I wanted to play more and I might get back to them someday.
One game I don't think I will be returning to though is Final Fantasy XV. I gave it a good 15/20 hours I think but it really didn't grab me. I wasn't overly intrigued by the story but the main reason is because the gameplay and mission structure just wasn't for me. The combat just never clicked at all and getting about on the train track roads was dull. Oh yeah I'm a Prince and big stuff is going down but I'll just endlessly go around helping people kill bugs and get find there missing stuff over and over again.
I've heard it's one of the weakest FF games but it's the only one I've played and it might stay that way unless the demo for 7 is really good.

Yeah MGS V I just have never gone back to and I’m not sure I want to. I also remain resolute in my decision to never finish the last chapter of Life is Strange because I know the ending and don’t want it. Elsewhere, I’ve played 5 hours of Breath of the Wild and honestly can’t get into it. It’s anathema as a lifelong Ninty nut but it’s just not really my thing.

@nessisonett Vice versa for me, MGS V just did not do it for me. Played it at the same time as BOTW which I adored beginning from end.

@nessisonett @JohnnyShoulder yeah i agree with MGSV but i'm OK with not finishing it because Konami didn't finish it either

as far as i'm concerned MGS4 was a great ending, we didn't need a 5th

@Ralizah I forgot about FFIX, another game I just haven’t gone back to! I’m really bad at keeping an entire party on equal footing so all those sections where you have to use everyone just has me stumped. Completely stuck at the Desert Palace unless I grind a lot. I’m sure Kyle’s lurking here waiting to excommunicate me for not going back to it 😂😂

@nessisonett play the PS4 version, it has boosters so that shouldn't be an issue but it's well worth going back to, one of the best of the series that one

@FullbringIchigo Yeah, I’m playing the PS4 one and I do think I’ll eventually go back. I adore the whole equipment/ability system, it’s one thing I love about Tactics Advance. I just have so many games on the go!

@KratosMD oh i know that pain, i once got a corrupted PS2 memory card and lost a 100% complete FFX game save and some of the stuff you need to do on that game is sadistic

even today i can't be bothered to do certain things on FFX again because they are so infuriating (looking at you lighting dodge mini game)

Kentucky Route Zero. Got a stellar review here and it really is not for me. Its whacky without being funny and obscure without being interesting*. Finished the first chapter then havent been back.

*I'm more Reeves and Mortimer and Father Ted. KRZ is more the league of gentlemen. There's an audience for sure, a very niche audience.

Mass Effect Andromeda. This game killed the Star Wars beater. On It's own. Easily my favourite trilogy of games up until this gen, a fantastic, engaging and awe-inspiring set of games. Then Andromeda released like an accidental sneeze all over your keyboard. It felt good for a second, but now everyone has bird flu and your business has to close down. So so sad.

Anything by Quantic Dream. I bounce off their stuff like a pogoist with jelly legs on a trampoline. Experts in the mundane. Looks aren't everything and this Studio proves it. Don't remind me about the dishes Quantic.

@KratosMD Yeah that was such a small part of the overall game early on, it's a shame that put some people off the game.

With MGSV partly it was at the wrong time as i was playing it at the same time as BOTW. I was just thinking of playing Zelda the whole time. Plus i got a bit overwhelmed by some of the systems it introduced and I disliked how the missions were handled in the game.

This is a great idea for a thread!

As an adult I only got back into gaming in 2016 when I bought my PS4. As a kid I completed every game I owned whether k liked it or not! But with a business, family, etc. Things are a bit different now. For the record, I HATE not completing games I've purchased, but time to play games is very valuable these days. So!!!!..... Since I bought my PS4 I have not completed the following games, and you've now made me feel guilty as hell for it!

MGSV- always loved mgs but really didnt feel like the open world fit it. It was really boring and repetitive. I do hope they try again, probably won't happen though....

Medievil PS4. I beat the PS1 version many times, and I guess I just didn't feel the nostalgia I felt compared to the crash PS4 remake.

Spyro 3 PS4 remake. Similar to above, I had played Spyro original many times and when the remake came out I played Spyro 1 and 2 but just didn't feel the same enthusiasm to complete the 3rd. Burnt out I guess.

Ghost recon wild lands. Bottom line, it didn't live up to my expectations and I hate it haha!

Also!

watchdogs. Couldn't stand it!

Assassin's Creed unity. So boring!

Usually I force myself to make it to the end credits, even if I'm not enjoying a game. But then I realised I'm just wasting my time, and I can be playing something I AM enjoying!

Just a few hours ago I unsintalled Darksiders 2, about mid way through the story. There are too many puzzles/dungeons for my liking and it just became a drag. The story/sound/atmosphere was great, but the many many dungeons killed it for me.

As a 30 year old gamer here's some advice (that I need to follow as well tbh!):

If you're not enjoying a game for whatever reason, move on. Forget the critics/ratings/word of mouth and just play what you enjoy for as long as you enjoy it.
