Topic: How to bypass update screen without a controller

Hi guys,

So I haven’t used my PS4 in quite a long time but fancy getting back into a bit of gaming.

When I turn the PS4 on I got the screen saying that “a later version of the system software is ready to be installed”. The problem is my controllers have become un-paired from the console. I have connected the controller to the PS4 via a USB cable and I’ve held down the PS button until it’s flashing white, however it will not pair. I’m guessing this is because the PS4 is stuck on the update screen.

Can I get past the update screen without a controller? I have tried the app but I’m guessing the PS4 is no longer on my Wi-Fi network.

Thanks in advance for any help as it would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Andy.

@KripUK try starting the PS4 in safe mode and seeing if the controller will pair (while it's connected with the usb cable) and doing the system update from that menu

https://support.playstation.com/s/article/Safe-Mode-PS4?langu...

Instructions for booting into safe mode are further down that page.

Also it might be worth trying different USB cables sometimes the connection can be a bit loose on the PS4 controller and also make sure it's plugged all the way in on the console as the profile can make it difficult to plug in certain USB cables/devices that have a fatter connection on the end.

I hope some of this helps! Good luck!

See ya!
