Topic: How much would you pay for this?

Due to the nature of the gaming industry I would like to know everyone's opinion on the prices they would pay for certain games.
1) AAA retail game (like cod, fifa or witcher3)
2) 12 month season pass
3) map pack of 4 maps or 4 stadiums
4) Different costumes/kits pack of 4
5) The ability to level quicker or better abilities
6) 2 hours worth of missions
7) AAA game including 2,3,4,5 and 6

Its a genuine question as on an article some people are happy to part with a lot of money, and maybe its my grasp of value which is wrong as I strongly disagreed at the time.

$60 - 1) AAA retail game (like cod, fifa or witcher3): Generally, I'm okay paying $60 for a well polished AAA game. When it comes to yearly releases like Assassins Creed or Call of Duty, I generally wait until they're under $20 since by that time, they're usually patched and more of a complete game.
$20 - 2) 12 month season pass: Would have to be a game I really like or a game with really strong value within the season pass (Resident Evil Revelations 2)
$10 - 3) map pack of 4 maps or 4 stadiums: Most games, I never buy a single map pack due to prices. $10 is my limit since often these map packs lack value.
$3 - 4) Different costumes/kits pack of 4: Cosmetic items generally don't appeal to me, but I'll pay a few dollars for a costume or skin I really like.
$1 - 5) The ability to level quicker or better abilities: Not interested in paying to take away parts of the game. I'll play it as it was intended.
$5 - 6) 2 hours worth of missions: I'd be most likely to buy these types of DLC. I'm still not willing to spend a whole lot for only a couple hours of content.
$80 - 7) AAA game including 2,3,4,5 and 6. $80 is pretty much my cap for purchasing a new game + season pass. I'll pay more for collectors editions and what not, but not these crazy bundles with DLC.

I'll also point out that if I really really enjoy a game (like Freedom Wars), I'll generally buy a lot of the DLC. I'm also MUCH more likely to spend money on DLC if the retail price of the game is lower than average. For Resident Evil Revelations 2, I was more than willing to purchase extra characters and missions since it retailed at $25.

1) AAA retail game (like cod, fifa or witcher3)
Answer - £40-45 - unless its a Ltd or special edition in a Steelbook Case and depends on what 'extras' are included too.

2) 12 month season pass
Answer - really depends on the game, the content of the DLC etc etc

3) map pack of 4 maps or 4 stadiums
Answer - again depends on the game but no more than £10-12

4) Different costumes/kits pack of 4
Answer - Absolutely NOTHING - I will not buy cosmetic items EVER.

5) The ability to level quicker or better abilities
Answer - Absolutely NOTHING - I will never anything that can be achieved in game by playing.

6) 2 hours worth of missions
Answer - at most, I will pay £1 per hour and that includes AAA games to - IF the game offers more value, it will get priority over those at £1 per hour

7) AAA game including 2,3,4,5 and 6
Answer - If all bundled together - no more than £80 but would depend on the content of DLC and as I have stated I put NO value on cosmetic 'rubbish' that has NO impact in game.

I don't think its your grasp on value as that is quite an individual thing. Things like Destiny's Ghost edition (included much of the above but also a replica Ghost) cost £150 (if memory serves me correctly) and sold out very quickly. I had no interest in my own plastic 'Dinklebot' and therefore consider it 'overpriced' and yet if I had the funds, I would consider the Batmobile version of Arkham Knight as that Batmobile looks cool. I have often bought the Hardened Edition of CoD but not the Prestige Edition because the 'extras' haven't appealed

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

It gives me a head ache trying to answer those questions It's also not something I'd want to try and justify really. Fact is I spend a fair amount of money on games and I very rarely walk away feeling like I've been robbed, so I must be doing something right in terms of assessing wether something is good value for me. If it became a regular feeling I'd probably just go elsewhere for my entertainment I suppose.

That's exactly why I wrote the thread that way, Its a mess in my eyes and I didn't even include ultimate teams and in game music. But the opinions of @NathanUC and @BAMozzy I think are fair and weighted and its great to see others who wont buy the xp boosts.

1) AAA retail game 60,00
2) 12 month season pass 19,99 but I hardly do those.
3) map pack of 4 maps or 4 stadiums 7,99
4) Different costumes/kits pack of 4 3,99
5) The ability to level quicker or better abilities nada this destroys the purpose of playing the game
6) 2 hours worth of missions 5,99
7) AAA game including 2,3,4,5 and 6 79,99

I wish to add that I am generally totally fine with ANY kind of DLC, even ondisc DLC if what I get for the initial sales price does FEEL like a complete, polished game. Ondisc (or any other DLC) should never lock integral parts of story/gameplay/features behind a paywall. Additional fighters or weapons is another thing. I don't HAVE to get them to have my complete experience. More options are always nice and since it's a free market let them charge whatever they want to, you're still free to vote NO with your wallet.

Having read through the answers so far only strengthens my view on the subject matter, it's really easy and simple though.

Dev's make BETTER games then we're more likely to buy ADDITIONS (i.e. not pre-sales, no promises) while we still are busy playing your game.

Simple really.

I would never buy the BF 'Shortcuts' for example as part of the fun of playing is earning those unlocks. I think it breaks the game too as it takes away from those players that have earned them.

I do think single player games get a rougher time when it comes to DLC. CoD for years have included a Season Pass in their 'Hardened' Edition and charge £40 for it - saving £8 on the cost of all 4 packs if bought individually - and often come with some bonuses like in-game cosmetics (emblem etc) as well as early access to maybe a weapon or something. BF's Premium also gave us in game extras like dog tags, knife (cosmetic difference only) and other extras too. Its almost expected that MP games will have a DLC and Season Pass.

When Story based games (like Arkham Knight, Witcher 3) announce DLC people immediately criticise and say they must have taken parts from the game. Arkham City had a 'season' of DLC which only had 1 extra Story mode - Harley Quinns Revenge. It also added the Robin and Nightwing packs as well as a skin pack and the Batcave Challenge Map. If you didn't buy the game new you didn't get the Catwoman pack and could buy this separately. All this added up to more than the £33 being charged for Arkham Knights Season Pass. I can't recall anyone complaining about City's DLC or other story based games like Fallout 3/Bioshock2/Mass Effect's etc not like they do today.

For some 'costs' seem face value - i.e. AAA must be £40-45/$60 and the downloadable 'indie'/arcade' style games £10-£15 but as you know in terms of 'cost per hour', these can vary significantly. It seems many are happy with 8-10hrs for £15 but complain if a AAA game with all its contents deliver a better cost per ratio - albeit slightly - but also have much higher visual production values etc. Its almost as if the games at £15 can get away with delivering a much lower content and 'cost per hour' because they are seen as cheap. Lets be honest would anyone pay £45 for games like Child of Light if it was 3x as long or buy all 3 Assassins Creed 2.5D games over their AAA games (assuming they are not buggy of course) - probably not because they do not have the same visual quality, depth, game play options etc as AAA games tend to have, same number of options (co-op, MP etc) and don't last anywhere near as long overall.

For some though, games like CoD (despite all their options) will never be seen as good value, because they don't enjoy the game play. I know I have bought AAA games on launch, but also decided to wait until the cost drops to a level that I deem good value for me. I have bought brand new AAA games for less money than similar aged 'indie/arcade' games too. I didn't feel that the 'extra' options were worth paying for (MP, co-op etc) as I knew I wouldn't play them.

I guess what I am trying to say is that 'value' is a personal and individual choice. If a game really grabs your attention and desire to play, you are likely to spend more in buying it than one that you are very undecided on. It also depends on your own income/finances too. Taking £45 out of someone's monthly budget can be a significant expenditure for some families but for others its nothing more than 'small' change

£40 for a AAA, that's witcher 3, no dlc thanks, just the game. Fifa and CoD are annual franchises, to me, they ain't AAA. I more or less never waste money on Junk dlc, I got Shadow of Mordor season pass for half price and Destiny for better than half, 15 quid is my limit and I have to love the game anyway. For all of above etc I'd say my limit is what I'm spending on ESO Tamriel Unlimited at £90 but I do plan on getting rid of the collectors edition when a cheap digital version pops up.
