Hi, new to the forum and after some headset advice.

Currently I only really play CoD Black Ops 4 and have been using some cheap earphones. I'm really struggling to tell the direction sounds come from, so am thinking of getting a proper gaming headset, and ideally wireless.

I have no idea where to start though, I read some much contradictory stuff. I've read about 7.1 virtual surround sound and also 3D sound, but then some people say they're not necessary and some people say they won't work with wireless.

So.. does anyone have a recommendation?

@Iroquois_Pliskin Honestly - take a look at the official Sony stuff. The Gold/Platinum Headsets are decent and not very expensive.

I still have a pair of the Pulse ones. Don't use them much, but they sound fantastic, and the Gold one's have even improved since then.

Oh OK, thanks. I felt like I'd read mixed reviews about the Sony's audio quality, but I'll perhaps take another look.

I'm biased, but for me Sony's sound field has the most satisfying make-up of any earbud and headphone set I've tried. I had an SBH80 - which was very comparable (with aptx) with some far more expensive Shure buds that a friend was using at the time.

I'd also say that they are hard to beat in terms of audio quality in the low to mid price ranges. A set of £30 wired Sony earbuds will last you a long time and sound as good (if not better) than many competitor buds at double or more the price.

For PlayStation gaming, my experience is limited to the Pulse Headset. Were I a bigger fan of wearing cans, I'd have worn it out by now - it sounds great and is very nearly 7 years old!

EDIT: Also, the Sony PlayStation headsets just, work. No complex set up - plug in the supplied receiver to a USB port on the PS4 and switch them on.

@Iroquois_Pliskin Awesome username.

My friend recently went through a couple headset options for PS4. She's settled upon the official Gold headset for the majority of her usage, whilst retaining a third-party set of cans for watching movies and Netflix and the like (because apparently they can be a little quiet; Sony optimise for gaming).

Personally, I use the Platinum variant and am very impressed with it, even if the rubber headband is a little uncomfortable after prolonged use. This is the one that comes with all sorts of fancy bells and whistles, buttons for 3D audio and whatnot, but you can largely ignore those features (especially since 3D audio doesn't work on games which aren't optimised for it). Just use the PS4 dashboard app to pick your favourite sound profile, boosting gunfire or explosions or speech or whatnot, and you'll be good to go.

And as @KALofKRYPTON helpfully noted, they're both simply plug-and-play, too.

@Rafal1986 Hey, my man, it’s a little rude to ask for the cup size before you’ve gotten to know your headset a little... taken it on a few dates... bought it some flowers 😉

The last option will be hyperx cloud 2.

Yes I tests hyperx could flight and could 2 , could flight is more comfortable even for big heads and big ears but havent got 7.1 ,not good for FPS, hyperx could are less comfortable ,but have better sound ,not cleaner just better ,impresions are better.Buy could flight only if you need wirelles and clean sound ,buy could 2 if you need better precision in FPS . I tried connect usb sound card from could 2 to could flight ,this is not possible. I would like headset with comfort of flights and sound of could 2.But I will choose could 2 for sound ,and send back the could flight.

I use the razer kraken headset, picked it up in the black Friday sale a while back for just shy of £50.
Honestly cant fault it, sound is brilliant , mic is decent enough.
Definitely recommend it although not wireless, just plugs straight into bottom of the pad
