The sound volume when I play games is fine its consistent and loud enough do not need to turn up the volume to full when wearing headphones. However when I am watching movies the sound is not very loud certainly not as loud as the game sound. It seems to vary depending on what I am watching. Some movies/tv programs are fine others are quiet. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Does anyone know a solution apart from plugging the headphones directly into the TV?

Generally, I think the issue is that movies have their audio mixed for cinemas, whereas games are designed with headphones and home speaker set ups in mind. I know this sounds obvious, but a cinema will most likely have 9.1 surround sound- so an audio engineer can split various things like dialogue and foley to numerous channels. Also, because cinema speakers are turned up to 11, they can afford to mix things more quietly and with a greater degree of dynamics. When this gets transferred to a TV or headphone set up that has few channels (as low as 2.1) the sound naturally gets 'downsampled', which can result in it being overly quiet or- and this I find infuriating- with inaudible dialogue and ear shattering explosions.

So I don't think its a case of your Playstation making it quiet, and therefore your TV won't help much either. What headphones are you using? You could spend some money on a pair of surround sound headphones, which should help a bit. Unfortunately, though, there's no accounting for a really quiet audio mix. I'm looking at you, Interstellar.

Hope this helps!
