Topic: Finally a member of the PS4 family

I've been a member of this community for about two years but didn't own a PS4. I just wanted to share with the community that my PS4 Pro finally arrived on the mail today and now I'm a happy member of the PS4 owner family... I haven't played anything on it yet as I am waiting for my first game (rise of the tomb raider) to download

Also check out some of the free games they can be quite good. Neverwinter is good if you enjoy MMOS or games like Skyrim. Hawken is a good FPS.

There is a lot to catch up on. Incidentally my first game on PS4 was Uncharted 4 which was followed by The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne. Very hard to match that kind of quality so you might want to mix things up. Enjoy!

Nice, and Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great game to start with. If you don't mind some recommendations, inFamous: Second Son and Ratchet & Clank can both be had for $40 combined, those are also must-plays.

I know it just came put but FFXV is a must so is Titanfall 2

Couple of noob questions, anybody have a link to the noob faq?

1. Can you tell the PS4 to download stuff sequentially in order like the PS3 rather than all at once? I was afraid the new cold HDD was going to burn itself out trying to download the Lego Jurassic World game, Gravity Rush 2 demo and FFXV Platinum demo all at the same time like it was showing on the list so I paused the 2 demos.

2. Is there some type of HDD indicator on the PS4 Slim? I put the PS4 into rest mode to come make breakfast and the yellow light is on so I think it's in rest mode, nothing on the tv screen, but how do I know it is still downloading the Lego game and how do I know when it's done? The light is glowing on the charging DS4 but I'm assuming that's just b/c it's charging.

It can handle multiple downloads at once. When it reaches its limit it will automatically queue any downloads beyond limit. You can always pause specific downloads but, honestly, I wouldn't mess with it. It'll be fine if you just let it do its thing.

You figured out rest mode with the yellow light, but you need to go into settings to tell it what it can and can't do in rest mode.

Settings / Power Save Settings / Set Features Available In Rest Mode /

And make sure you check these boxes:

• Supply Power to USB Ports 3 Hours
• Stay Connected to the Internet
• Keep Application Suspended

Power to USB should be set to either Always or 3 Hours so you can charge your controllers.

@JaxonH: Thanks, I think I checked all 3 of those during set-up, but I'm still not sure how to tell what it's doing. Wii U seems to check every hour and the red light changes to orange for a minute. Longer when there was a big download. The Slim has that little orange light but that's all I can tell, that it is in rest mode, I can't tell if it's actually downloading or installing anything.

I decided I'll just limit myself to 1 download at a time and not worry about it. Well unless it's really small stuff, like the 8 1mb items from FFXV. Time to go to my nieces 11th birthday, another day out of the house, so it doesn't really matter what the PS4 is doing for awhile. I should never try to figure stuff out while I'm in a rush,

Oh, one last question. When it' son that main menu my avatar says Robert Emmerich in big letters, do you know if I can change that to rjejr? When I click on it I see it says rjejr in small letters underneath, so it has my account name in there, but my actual name in big letters across the top, too many big letters. I have 999 bronze, guessing I maxed it out. Still zero platinum, maybe someday, but I doubt it, too much work .

Pretty sure it displays your real name to you, but to everyone else it displays your ID (unless you give permission to share real name with friends).

You're not alone, I still don't have a PS4 yet. However I'm purposely waiting until my PS3 backlog has been conquered.

I'm planning to buy myself a PS4 Pro during Black Friday 2017, assuming I've beaten most of my PS3 games.

@JaxonH: Man, I can't believe I finally get myself a PS4 and you go and get yourself a gaming PC. I can never get into PC gaming anymore, I need my couch, controller, surround sound, big screen tv. I suppose know a days you can get all of that w/ PC gaming but it just ins't the same to me. (I can't find where you told me about all of that, email was pretty crazy after essentially 3 days of avoiding it.)

I've got it set up like a console. You already know I don't do the whole desk thing.

I play from my recliner, hooked up to my 4KTV with an Xbox One controller ($2 Steam add on lets your controller work like a mouse, and once I get the X1 controller chatpad add on in the mail, that can be a quick and easy keyboard when needed). Also have a STEAM controller on the way, which works for alot of games that are built for keyboard and mouse only (like Civilization 6)

And, for when I absolutely just need to use a keyboard and mouse I set the wireless keyboard in my lap, and there's this mousepad built for the arm rest of your recliner/couch that will make it flat, cause even though the mouse does work as is it sticks a little bit on the curved leather. But that's more for if I wanna do non-gaming related things like setting up software.

So ya, this gaming PC is nothing more than another console as far as I'm concerned. Boot time is about 7 seconds (that's faster than all 3 of my consoles). But if I just use sleep mode I can turn it on from my recliner and never even have to get up.

@JaxonH: Strap on a VR helmet and your practically a Borg, I guess you'll need an Oculus or something now.

Was messing around this morning w/ my 7" tablet as a second screen on PS4. didn't know I could do that. It's not perfect but it gets the job down, very nice little app. Nintnod would probably charge $4.99 for an app like that for Switch. Even free it would still be kind of weird, using my 7" tablet to control my 6.2" screen Switch while it's docked.

Eventually I'm going to play a game on my PS4. Signed up for 1 year of PS+ this morning and downloaded a few games. Some day, but not today.
