Topic: Final Fantasy VIII Remastered - Invulnerability Boost

Is this just me, or do I feel that this boost completely ruins the whole experience?

I understand it's an optional boost, and that you can choose to use them as you see fit, but realistically, you're going to use them.

Now the speed up one, or avoid fights, i get it, it doesn't really affect the game on a gameplay level, like it doesn't break the game (unless you leave avoid battles on through the whole game haha).

However, the invulnerability and infinite limit is broken, because it makes people lazy, and you can use it when you're in a difficult position, rather than dying and restarting from your previous save point.

It's not that I want to go back and have to replay from that point, but additionally, it lets me know i need to level up more and gather better equipment etc. It's part of what makes JRPGs fun. This addition really felt unnecessary.

Does anyone else agree with my perspective?

@Grindagger yep i agree 100% that's why i never used it and i hate the fact you can still get the trophy for beat Omega Weapon while using it, it invalidates the entire reason for the fight being there

on a side note the No Encounters mode is pretty mush useless too as FFVIII has that as an equipable ability

3x speed mode though is a god send at times in all the remastered games especially if your short on time and just want to grind a bit

basically using the 3x mode is fine and on 7 and 9 the No Encounters Mode is too but using the boost mode should have some kind of penalty such as disabling trophies while it's in use, you know like the Max Level, Max Gill and Max Stones cheats in FFIX Remastered do

@Grindagger I called this a while back. I am pretty much always short on time, never enough spare time to play a game for hours on end. So playing Celeste on a difficult collectible I used the infinite jumps option about 4 chapters in (the hotel) That led to invinsibility on one of a further later stages (the wind stage). It did ruin the experience. I have the platinum but its a hollow victory.

Fortunately in celeste there is a mini game with no assists allowed which is pretty fun and you have to be pretty adept at finishing that too. No way would I use infinite health on FF8 what's the point in playing you may as well watch all the cutscenes on YouTube?

@themcnoisy Yeah, It's just not cool is it?

It invalidates the whole game for me. I can ignore it, but in truth, what's the point? The platinum is largely pointless, because with that cheat it makes the actual achievements completely irrelevant and fruitless.

It really has completely removed my excitement to play again, and it's really sad, because I really wish it wasn't so. I'd even have taken an option to disable it on startup, or as @FullbringIchigo said just invalidate the trophies if you use that particular boost...

Ugh.. Oh well.

@Grindagger do you have a PS3, if so then buy the original off PSN, it might not look as nice but there are no boosts or anything so once you finish the game you know you have done it by your own merits

@FullbringIchigo Eh.... I could do that. I do have the copy of FFVIII on my PS3. But my PS3 has been shelved, haven't pulled it out since my last itch to play Demon Souls, and frankly it's quite annoying having to go back to PS3 as communication with PS4 friends is impossible.

It's a lot of work, and unnecessary f***ing about, to play a lesser version on a game, on a lesser platform, when it all could of just been avoided

@Grindagger i can understand that although i still maintain that when a game is remastered, if it's one you never played before then people should play the original too in order to truly appreciate it

on a side note the original PS1 version of IX is still fantastic to play if your interested and it doesn't have that annoying Mobile version of the battle menu plus if you have a PSP or Vita you can play the PSN versions on those too so you can play them on the go
