I just bought a seagate 8tb external hard drive. When I went to format it to my PS4 it would not let me because it said it is 8.1 tb and it has to be under 8tb. Is there anything I can do so it will work? Or do I have to return it and get a smaller hard drive? Please tell me I can make it work some how. Thanks for any help

8 TB is the largest harddrive you are able to use. Not sure where the .1 came from but that might be what's wrong. The only thing I can think of is, is it 3.0?

@Tasuki yes it is a usb 3.0. i forget what it says exactly but something like 'the external hard drive has to be between 1tb and 8tb' and says 'the hard drive im trying to hook up is to large and is 8.1tb' im going to check again tomorrow and post what it says exactly, maybe that will help

@Tasuki so is there anything I can do with it to make it work?

sounds strange unless it has something to do with the way the PS4 reads hard drive size, try hooking it up to a P.C and see what size it says it is

but like Tasuki said, you just gonna have to get a new smaller HDD say a 6tb, that should be more than enough room anyway

Ok so now im getting annoyed I just bought a 5tb external hard drive and when i try to format it as external storage it says

"Cannot format this USB storage device as extended storage. A USB storage device that meets the following conditions must be used. (CE-41902-6)
-USB 3.0 or later
-250 GB minimum, 8 TB maximum capacity
-Directly connected to Ps4

Is it because it has to be plugged into an outlet for a power source? Thats the only thing I can think of.

Youll find its to do with the fact your using a small external that doesnt have a power source other than the USB...
