I've played for 5-6 hours, the last 2 mining and not making much out of it. I don't think I like mining much. I'm thinking about restarting and getting some combat experience.
I'm all about trading and courier work in my nifty little Cobra MKIII. I mix it up with the occasional exploration into deep space for data to sell to the Universal Cartographics and of course getting a few bounties here and there. I've made a decent enough 5 million credits just doing mainly trade.
@kyleforrester87 Don't try mining unless you're in at least a Hauler/Cobra MKIII as you just won't have the cargo capacity to make it worthwhile. Collector limpets are also a must as it means you don't have to cargo scoop each piece yourself.
To make any money it's best to head to pristine metal rings. Frey has a nice one I've spent many an hour in.
Finally, keep an eye out for mining missions on the mission board as they often pay out way above market value.
@AlexStinton I actually got a Hauler last night which has 8 spaces for cargo (i believe!) but it doesnt have a module available to install a refinery unless I replace the shield or something. Is that normal or is there a way to get more open modules?
@kyleforrester87 I might be mistaken. Can you remove the shield generator and put a refinery in that slot? You won't be looking for a fight so you could go commando to make it work.
Damn this game has a steep learning curve. Finally sank my teeth into this for a couple of hours last night.
Had some guidance from some mates who have already felt the pain but once you get your head around a lot of the basics, it starts to click and make sense.
Just ended up with a few deliveries to get going and managing to pretty much nail docking and landing.
Combat will be the next challenge but need to earn some credits to get a decent ship.
Massive time sink of a game!
@SKC_Diamond I'm allied with Felicia Winters of the Federation, on the second tier of their powerplay thingy and am currently at cadet rank. I'm only just starting to get the gist of it all now. I want to get my rank up high with the Empire because I like the look of the Imperial Clipper ship which you can only purchase at a certain naval rank. Luckily I don't have to pledge allegiance to them to do it.
@AlexStinton Yeah, I recently read into that so now I'm thinking of leaving and becoming an independent trader/explorer. The promise of earning 50 million a week if you hit the top tier in a leader's powerplay sounds juicy though.
Me and My friends went with Zachary Hudson due to him owning the center honestly i would have rathered the people with the most control. @AlexStinton i see where your comming from but idk t me it makes the game feel like it has more depth and makes you feel more involed also like @ApostateMage said that 50 Million would be amazing
