@kyleforrester87 If you're unsure then the £19.99 version is a good starting point. You can upgrade to the full version later.

Main things you won't have in the basic version are:

Planetary landings
Engineers and crafting
Passengers
Fighters
Multi-crew

To be honest this isn't stuff you'll be doing at the start, so you could easily put a lot of time into the base version and not miss these.

£39.99 version includes the Horizons expansion, which IMO you definetely dont need if your just looking to get a feel for the game. The base game will be enough if you're still on the fence.. Horizons includes things like travelling in other commanders ships & customising your avatar, & also the ability to land on planets & buggy around like in ME.

I'm not getting Horizons for another couple of weeks, & im still having a blast.

@kyleforrester87 Yea I can only do 2 training missions right now due to the rest of the game downloading. I've been mostly messing around with the controls to get my preferred layout. Its pretty great flying and combat feel smooth I just wish I could practice landing

@kyleforrester87 just read your other comments in the thread bro and yes just buy it. Other games along the same line are just immitators. Braben knows his stuff and you will be pulled in by something in the game. I'm tempted to buy it later so I can go on a out of bubble exploration mission with you and nick all your cred.... I mean Er go full coop on a mission to unknown planets.

@themcnoisy it looks great on the pro defiantly running at 60 in both quality and performance modes. Though since i cant play the full game im guesding it drops more on that i cant really tell a diffrence between the 2 modes. Im hoping Digital Foundry will make a video on it soon

@themcnoisy So looking at the two modes side by side doesn't seem to be any resolution boost but textures and AF have been improved I can see more detail on ships infront of me and planet detail in quality mode. Also to note I am on a 1080p tv

@themcnoisy Aha I didn't buy it last night when I was going to but I've got the day off today so we'll see how the afternoon plays out, might pull the trigger later.

@SKC_Diamond good to know, I drop into 1080p on my 4k TV all the time. It's a Phillips cheap HDR 4k TV, its great but if I keep it in 4k on its 3rd/4th run at 4k it starts flaking out and majorly skipping frames dropping it back to 1080p resets it. So I'm playing most games at 1080p anyway and only boot it into 4k for games that make the most of it. Anyway enough of my TV and thanks for the info.

Wheyyyy managed my first landing in my first attempt I struggled to understand the approach technique until I got the hang of those speed and distance bars.

Was just going round and round.

@kyleforrester87 I spent about two hours trying to figure it out, was guiding myself by the thrust pads on the back of the landing pads which obviously was in the back of the control tower. For a smart man I can be quite stupid.

Anyway, what are you thinking about it? Enjoying it so far?

Going to explore a bit outside today, currently am at Asselus Primus, having done the community objective for the week, my idea is to check out either the Sothis>Ceo data trade route or the Quince system whic apparently has got quite nice payout for missions in that bubble. Close together too.

Word of the internet mind you, gonna test it out tonight.

@xX_RiscazZ_Xx I'm actually enjoying the 2 hours or so I played last night, although I've only managed to get the hang of approaching stations/asteroid belts and docking/repairing/refueling.

I did complete a delivery two systems away that required a couple of jumps then came back to the system I started in - for about 70000 credits. Tried to mine some ore after doing the tutorial but realised I didn't have the right guns for that. Tried to dock with 2 stations close to the belt but I wasn't granted permission (don't know why, and don't know how to check if I'm authorised before going all the way there? Guess it says somewhere on the system map).

Not been involved in any combat and to my knowledge not seen any real players yet.

@kyleforrester87 You should be fine authorization wise, just make sure you are at less than 7.5K from the station and the station is not full, if there's a lot of ships on the contact list, all the docking pads may be engaged, just keep on trying until someone leaves, that's a bit boring but hey oh, it becomes less usual once you depart from the starting range of systems.

Other players appear on the radar as hollow rectangles, if their weapons are out then they switch to triangles, not cool. Also, when scanned their name is prefixed by CMDR, commander for short.

Starting out, you'll be looking to upgrade your FDS to A a good power generator, and trying to get everything else to D for longer jump range.

Loving the Cobra MK III right now. Had an ASP but I sold it due to the rebuy cost being too high and the ship was too squishy, became literally unplayable after a few hits the cockpit would be all screwed, no visibility at all. Maybe fully upgraded it would be much better, but I had no funds to make it work then, so I had to take a sensible step back.
