Anyone getting this? It's out tomorrow (UK release anyways) from what i've seen & read of the OC version it looks right up my street. Only £20 too.

Also if anyone has it on PC i'd love to hear your thoughts..

@FaultyDroid I have it on PC and it's brilliant.

One thing I dislike is the pricing of the game now its on ps4. You can either buy the nerfed (original) £20 version or the full game I presume with the dlc for £40. Just release it complete to everyone for £30. This will already split the player base grrrrrr. I'm pretty sure it was listed on pc recently in its entirety for way less due to its age which makes it all the more jarring.

The best thing about ED is when detecting a human player in a seemingly endless void over the course of 4 or 5 hours trading and smuggling. There's loads to do and although I haven't played for over a year now due to regards crashes on my less than minimum spec pc, Im interested to drop back in due to the thargoid stories cropping up across the web. It's really gonna kick off!

Is the game cross save with PC? I was almost there with purchasing a bigger hauler. If not then it's back to the grind. People smuggling across the galaxy.

I'll be playing Elite Dangerous, and I want to do a live stream of the game at some point this week once I've got some flight time under my belt - so keep an eye on the Push Square YouTube channel for that.

I think the horizons expansion is worth it for the complete experience, though, if you're on the fence about Elite Dangerous at all then trying out the £20 version is a good place to start.

I'll also have an article going up - either today or tomorrow - with some helpful tips to try and aid any new commanders settle into the world of Elite.

None of my friends have it, but i've been keeping tabs on it for at least the last year & stories of completely unscripted emergent gameplay, lack of hand holding etc really drew me in, in the same way EvE Online did several years ago. I've joined the forum & sent out friend requests.. despite usually lone-wolfing, i've read this game really comes into its own with other players. Looking forward to getting stuck into a real time-sink, its been a long time since i've played a game like that.

Cheers for the prompt reply

@AlexStinton Yeah thats what I did, I read that as a spanking new player most of Horizons wont matter much to me until i've grasped the basics, so I got the base game on digital for £20 & i'll get Horizons in a couple of weeks or so. Looking forward to the article..!

@AlexStinton great, look forward to watching that one!

@FaultyDroid Im interested to know what controls are allocated to the dual shock. I play with a mix of PS2 Joypad through an adapter, keyboard and mouse. Let us know if you enjoy it pal, I'm unlikely to buy it in the next month or two but will probably buy it after the summer if it reviews well!

Just a heads up that I'll be doing a live stream of Elite Dangerous on PS4 at around 8:30pm (UK time) tonight. Stop on by the Push Square YouTube channel if you're curious about the game, or if you're new to the world of Elite and need some help.

See you there!

@themcnoisy Loving this Not been this engrossed in a game in what feels like forever.. I was up until 4:30am this morning & here I am on my way to work at 7.

Its definetely not for everyone, especially those who prefer a quick pick-up & play, its very complex & sim-like, however im the type that loves being left to my own devices, & this game does exactly that. You are literally plonked in space with a starter ship & 1000 credits & left to blaze your own trail. No quests, no story.

The first time you bring up the map & zoom out, then keep zooming out, & realise you are not even a pixel in a 1:1 recreation of our galaxy. Its insane.

Would recommend this to anyone who loves their sci-fi, is looking for that FTL / Serenity-esque vibe, & likes researching a games intricacies, taking notes as you go & taking things at their own pace.

The archive of my live stream should be up later today on the Push Square YouTube channel.

Well worth a watch if I do say so myself. There were some 'interesting' moments, such as nearly burning my ship to dust when I got too close to a white dwarf star, or my miserable failure at PvP combat.

I'll post a link in this thread once it's live.

This game is a slideshow of interesting moments.. My fave so far has been attempting to capture a bounty, realising too late he was WAY out of my league, then frantically flying behind asteroids trying to evade him for what felt like forever, my ship flashing every warning & alarm, sparks everywhere.. before a wing of federal security swooped in out of nowhere & decimated him..

..& I still collected the bounty, as I scored a couple of meagre hits when I tried to blind side him

Great game once you get the hang of the basics, which is no cake walk. Think I'll be playing this one for a while.

@LieutenantFatman I'm glad you're starting to find your feet.

Make sure you get involved in one of the commuity goals running at the moment. I put an hour into one last night and I'm in line for over a million credits when it ends. Easy money.

@AlexStinton Thanks for the tip! I'm on the lowest tier rewards at the moment, will see if it can get into the top 75% bracket or higher.

So, been playing since day one and got some interesting tips that have saved my life/improved life quality in game:

1. Automatic Docking: YEAH! ever spent 10 minutes around one of them huge pentagon looking space stations and couldn't find the bloody entrance? Ever missed the bonus cash from a bounty/trade because that cost you 10 minutes to dock? Install a docking module on your ship's optional modules - for only 4.5k credits! Approach a space/planetary station, request to dock, and after you've been granted permission kill the speed, the automatic docking procedures will kick in, find the entrance and park your ship for you, with some great background music too!

2. Shoot Stuff Down: just started? Need cheap firepower? Go with a combo of Beam lasers and Multi Cannon, make sure they do tracking but not the gimballed ones, that's way too expensive for now, and only really useful in the big ships.

3. Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade: everything you buy resells for full price. Ships take a 10% hit but everything you put on it increases its value in the end by 100% of the cost to upgrade, no surprise you'll be buying a 4m ship with a few million and a 400k ship you've upgraded for a while that now is worth at least 2m.

4. "Direct all power to warp drive": I realized far too late that my shields were gone for about 3/4 of a dogfight. almost cost me a ship. As it happens, decreasing or providing more power to the 3 different systems will improve each or stop them altogether, that's what you use the D-Pad for: right for weapons, faster recharge rate and reloading, left for systems(?), that's shields as far as I can tell if there's no power to it your shields will NOT regenerate full power to it means faster shield regeneration rate, and up is engines, that's speed in general, wonder if it affect maneuverability as well?

5. Modules: Yesterday I got into a conflict zone and picked the wrong fight, i managed to get away but my ship systems were killed dead. Painting the picture, thrusters were gone, fsd was dead, shields gone and virtually no power left. I could not move, if you seen the film Gravity, that's pretty much it, aimlessly floating into space. Spent thirty minutes going though every menu I could find, think the only other option would be waiting in game for the ship to crash onto something and burn, or delete my save with the 14 million credits I made since.

BUT WAIT! Modules - let you self destruct your ship if there's nothing else to do, and you don't really have a year to wait to crash into a planet/star, but more interestingly, it lets you reboot the ship systems to apply minimal repairs to the vessel, letting you - slowly but surely, make your way to the nearest station and fix your stuff.

That's all the stuff that I found either extremely useful or massively underplayed altogether, there is very little hand holding in this game, and I'm enjoying every second of it, also, add me up if you're playing this and enjoying it, I saw @AlexStinton floating about in space but he's currently waaaaay too far for my ship's hyper-drive to reach.

@xX_RiscazZ_Xx Yeah, I can see you on my map as well. I've been doing community goals right in the heart of the starter systems. Some good money to be had.

Good to hear you found the reboot option - rather than self-destructing - if only for the super cool animation that plays out as your systems fire back up again.

One thing that might be of interest to you is the first player run event planned for PS4. It's basically an exploration tour around some of the galaxies interesting tourist sites. It spans multiple weekends from the 15th July. Link is below.

@xX_RiscazZ_Xx Sound like good tips. I gotta say this game does sound really interesting but I'm still too put off this genre by Rebel Galaxy. I don't have much experience other than than No Mans Sky and perhaps FTL, both of which I enjoyed..

@kyleforrester87 See I haven't touched NMS since before the big update, I won't do so until this after its anniversary, see if they release an upgrade soon. But overall, I played it and was a bit disappointed, it deserved better.

Rebel Galaxy, could not stand it for some reason, played about 10 minutes of it.

This one I just got pulled in straight away, and until Destiny 2 comes out I think this will tidy me over nicely.

@AlexStinton That looks like a fun day out! Maybe joining up with them will make it a better experience overall, they sound like they know what they're doing.

Gonna hit the Community Bounty stuff today I think, I've been doing missions for the most part, learning the basics.
