I'm undecided on whether to get ESO or not and wondering if the PushSquare community could help me with a few questions:

  • Can you play with friends who are not in the same faction as you?
Can you play with friends of any level?
How does level scaling work when playing with friends of higher/lower level?
Does it feel more like an MMO or more like just playing Skyrim online with your buddies?

And.....is it any good??
Thanks in advance

Well I can't answer for ESO since I have not played it, but if it's like every other MMO out there you are going to have to be the same faction as your friends to play with them.

I haven't played it yet its just dowloading, but I've been watching videos/ streams for over a year and from what I can tell you have to be in the same faction but any level can play with eachover and its basically like an mmo with elder scrolls features. If you turn all the add ons off and play in first person it looks similar to skyrim/oblivion to me.

Not really up to speed on ESO or FF Online, but from what I see FF looks like the better game in terms of gameplay and presentation. But there is a lot of hype surrounding ESO, is this simply because it's a Scrolls game or does it legitimately have a lot going for it?

More then likely because it's a Scrolls game, but I could be wrong.

I have it on PC and its not a bad game per se but its just too... "vanilla", it doesnt do anything special to grab you like others MMO (granted im not a huge fan, but i play them from time to time), it really feels like this game belongs about 10 years ago.

I stoped played a while ago so i dont know how things are now but still.

Give it a try, it might be what you like but those are my 2 cents.

May be a bug? Or if you are trying to sell items you get from sword racks from missions etc they aren't worth anything usually and a lot of the ingredients for food/ potions cafting aren't really worth anything so if you plan to make food/ potions put them in bank. Otherwise just press r3 to destroy them. Other than that it may just be a bug.

I have played it on ps4 for about two week straight, you'll enjoy if your an es fan but also like mmo's. And the crown shop from what I've seen is just cosmetic items such as skins for your character aswell as horse. Then there is potions etc that you can acquire in game anyway. So nothing pay to win if that is what your worried about. Also you have lots of customisation with your character and the pvp is great. Questing is actually really good for an mmo.

@JaxonH I've never actually played an MMO so I'm not sure if I like them. I've only recently started gaming but I know I like Skyrim, I might just have to bite the bullet and try it out. Thanks for the advice

What got me is the "no monthly subscription". That's why I usually avoid MMO's. I may pick this one up simply because it's a one time purchase

I can't say this about ESO cause I haven't played it but some free to play MMOS like Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeon and Dragons online don't have a month subscription, instead they have some things locked behind a paywall. Now just cause you don't pay doesn't mean you won't get it you just will have to grind for it or get it some other way, usually something that will take time. That's how non monthly subscription based MMOS work.

@Tasuki
I was thinking there was more to it. The two conclusions I had come to was A) The game wasn't that good and they knew nobody would be willing to pay a monthly subscription for it, or B) they've thought of other means to make their money. I know they're getting full MSRP for the game, but there's the cost of keeping the servers running throughout the course of the generation and beyond.

But I suppose you could always ignore the micro transactions and just play the game.

@JaxonH You're right to assume there is a catch cause as you said servers need upkeep new stuff is added all the time etc so how can they afford it?

Yeah you can just ignore the microtransactions. I played LotRO for awhile and never bought any of the microtransactions and had a blast. Co-workers of mine have been playing Neverwinter on Xbox One and its free and they are having fun with it as well and haven't paid a dime.

Haha In all honesty, I can't quite remember? I work full time and find between 2 and 6 hours a day for gaming...I know I used to watch TV but surely not that much. I'm not turning back now...the gaming life is for me.

I've been playing ESO now for a few days now, and I'm really enjoying it. The only MMO that I'd played before was FFXIV which I still find an amazing game, but, my personal feeling is that, at the moment, is that I'm enjoying ESO more!! Having been a massive fan of Oblivion and Skyrim I was slightly worried about how an MMO version of an Elder Scrolls game would be, but, it works out very well. It looks and feels just like an ES game, but, with more people about. They only issue I have at the moment is that it can look a bit odd when you're sneaking about trying to steal something and there are loads of people jumping about . I'm only at Level 9, but, so far it's been a blast with a good variation of quests rather than just going from A to B to pick something up. I've already met a mad frozen bloke

@stupidget glad to hear you're enjoying it. I eventually decided to purchase it and I'm enjoying it more than I thought to. It's my first MMO so I've got nothing to compare it to but at low level it just feels like a single player game with others around to interact with. I've got some friends who I plan on playing with although my understanding is that you can't really coop game-play quests other than dungeons, free play and PVP. Should still be a lot of fun.

@milero90 I'm only at Level 9 so not done any dungeons or PvP stuff yet. Hopefully the dungeon quests will be better than some that I had to do on FFXIV. I actually had one bloke sit on the floor and refuse to move until I changed the type of Familiar I was using!! Stupid jerk
