I wasn't sure if anyone plays this or has in the past but I am seriously thinking of picking it up for my MMO fix after watching some videos on it. I have some questions though before I commit to it

1) Is there a monthly fee to play it? I can't get a straight answer on this some places say yes $14.99 others say no and then some say yes if you want extra stuff. So if anyone had a straight answer that will be great

2) When you buy the base game how many races/classes do you get? I might pick up the expansions if I enjoy it enough but for now I just want to try it.

3) How well does it play with a controller? The last MMO I played was WoW on PC so I am very familiar with using a keyboard/mouse setup for MMOs but how well does it play with a controller.

Thanks for any info.

Hi Tasuki,

1) You can optionally pay for ESO Plus (£10 a month I think?) which unlocks all DLC while your sub's active and grants XP boosts.

2) You get 4 base classes and all races. You can optionally pay for the Warden class and Imperial race, but they're nothing too exciting.

3) It plays well on the controller. If you've played Skyrim on the PS4 it's pretty much that.

I thoroughly recommend it - many of its features are blatant copy/paste from Warcraft, but given the lack of WoW on consoles it's all the better for it. Hope this helps!

@grahamd Yeah that is my thing I played WoW for years till my PC died and have been looking for an MMO to fill that void. I was hoping that WoW Classic would come to console but it doesn't look like it.

Thanks for the response pretty sure I will be picking it up this weekend.

Happy to help, friend. I wasn't sure about ESO and I've now clocked over 1k hours (sad, I know). It's a friendly game and thankfully dispels myths about console gamers not working well together - the dungeons are a blast with a good group.

My only gripe would be the god awful tech support from zos, but maybe I just got unlucky. Many of my tickets have just been ignored, or I get sent a link to an article I already read prior to reaching out to them. That was a while back, though so maybe it's improved since.

Enjoy! And if you're looking for a boost drop me your gamertag and I'll add you.

So I noticed that ESO is actually on the Xbox Game Pass so I downloaded it and gave it a shot tonight. I played about an hour, just enough to get pass the tutorial and it was enjoyable to say. I will admit I did feel a bit overwhelmed but that's to be expected with something like this. Probably will give it a go some more tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me if a dark elf DK fire staff is still a viable option? I haven't played in about 3 years. I could start from scratch or respect my elf DK if another route is better, although my gear leans fire build.

I'd say so. Staff damage scales off magicka, so either focus on that pool or buff the stat with gear enchants. Since the One Tamriel update any build's viable, just not for PVP min maxers.

So this might be a dumb question but do I have to buy each expansion to get the content offered or do I just get the expansion and get everything?

So if I want Marrowind and Summerset for example can I just buy Summerset and have access to Marrowind as well?

I had a gander as I kinda fancy trying another MMORPG, the only one that ever grabbed me was UO. WOW and FF14 were pretty average I thought. But to be honest I enjoyed talking to people on UO and WOW and without a keyboard on PS4 it kinda seems a bit pointless playing an MMO. I know voice chat is a thing but I don’t always like to do that.

You'd be amazed what you can convey with a mix of emotes and jumping up and down 😂

Tasuki, you can buy the DLCs individually, or you can get one of the collector's editions that usually come with all past -story- expansions.

I emphasise story cause the dungeon DLCs don't seem to be included.

Best bet is buy a month of ESO Plus and you'll get everything for a month to find out what you like.

So how does crafting work in this game? I tried to make some armor and K had enough iron ingots but for some reason it wouldn't let me make the piece I wanted.

Other then that I am still enjoying the game. Got to a whopping level 6!!! Lol. Just taking my time exploring. Right now I am on some island near Skyrim wrapping up quests there.

Toggle have items/knowledge in the crafting menu. You're likely missing mats. Beyond that, make sure and do your researching of items daily to boost the stat and learn effects.

Is it Bleakrock Isle? Loved it! Felt like Skyrim... Windhelm and Riften are great to see in the different timeline too.

Tasuki

Yeah it's Bleakrock and I agree it does feel alot like Skyrim. I am excited to check out Morrowind since that was the game that introduced me to the ES series but I will have to get the expansion for that first.

Ok, I really cannot figure out this crafting thing. I want to do Blacksmithing, I am level 8 right now on Bleakrock Isle I have 40 Iron Ingots in my bank yet I can't craft a pair of boots, WTF??? The craft button is greyed out even in the menu. What am I missing???

Are you choosing a racial style that you have mats for? Like Breton needs Molybdenum, for example. You can buy basic ones from the blacksmith in the starting village.

Tasuki

Yep that was it I was confused cause the spot said go to the crown store and I thought that was some sort of optional material that you could buy from the crown store.

One of the things I hated in Skyrim, the crafting. Such a ball ache and dull task.

We are now in a world of people being offended for other people who they think should be offended, who arent offended.

It's a bit of a chore doing the daily crafting writs, for sure. But worth it for the gold and xp. The alchemy's the bit I'm not big on.

Tasuki

I have only reached the second area so I have a bit to go on crafting and such but now that I have figured it out, I am enjoying so far but then again I have always enjoyed crafting in MMOs.
