I saw a few threads on Dreams already, but no general on the game topic. With the early access out today, I think this game deserves its actual thread.

Who already bought it? I did.

@Octane you?

Yeah, I'm in. The intrigue has got to me.

Looking forward to seeing what it's all about

My mood right now: "I want it, I got it, I want it, I got it."

(Have to wait until tonight though.)

My first goal is to make Death Stranding before Kojima.

@roe My goal is to finish Dreams before Media Molecule.

Ok so I've been playing this for about 15 minutes maybe and I'm already in love.

The intro is a bit CBeebies-esque (a kid's tv channel in the UK), but it actually does a good job of explaining the basics quickly.

After going through that tutorial, I hop into 'DreamSurfing' - Dreams' way of playing other people's creations - and play a mini-game made by Media Molecule themselves called 'Hammer Panic'. This is genius. It's just a simple party game where you run around as a hammer bashing stuff and trying to win in various tasks. Within 30 seconds it's one of the best of it's type I've ever played. If this was in a Mario Party game it'd be a standout mode. And this is one tiny, tiny fraction of what's available in Dreams.

Dreams may well take up nearly all of my gaming time soon. This is special.

@Kidfried Yeah I got it! It's downloading to my PS4 right now, so when I get home in 10 minutes I can hop in right away.

Played a few more Dreams now and still super impressed. Here's my brief thoughts on a few of them:

'Please Hug Me' - a very cute, impactful, emotional very short "story" that is well worth checking out
'Cone Ball' - basically Rocket League with cones
'Dreamiverse Dash' - a fun platform runner that reminds me of some of the dash levels in Mario 3D World.
'Prometheus' - a demo for a FPS that's a bit janky but the idea is neat.
'The Offroad Lands' - a fun little driving adventure game with a nice premise, colourful world and varied environments.

This is madness. Just played a bit of PT, a replica of Super Mario Bros and a 3D Cuphead game. Mental.

Octane

Dreams is absolutely mental.

Did the logic tutorials. Very intuitive. I know a bit of programming, so maybe I have an easier time, but I can see myself getting used to this system in no time.

Is it possible to switch from motion sensor to using the analog stick instead? Wasn't a big fan of having to use the former during the beta.

Huntin' monsters erryday.

Gotta love Sony. Dreams finally comes out in early access and they decide today is a good day to drop PS5 news to completely overshadow their own game. Brilliant.

@roe At least Dreams will be backwards compatible.

But yea, Sony can be strange. Also with the State of Play happening just two weeks ago...

@roe I haven't played any of those games on your list but I have played the Mario and Cuphead levels. Mario was too simple, basically could have just been a static image w/ the music, but the Cuphead collect-a-thon was probably better than Yooka-Laylee. Well not really I'm still mad at them about the Wii U.

I spent an hour playing "Slayer Scrolls" b/c I'm a JRPG weebo, it was good for what's obviously a very early rough draft. And 30 minutes playing something "inPlace". Basically Super Mario Galaxy.

Haven't done the tutorials yet, figured Id' watch my kids play through that part so we can all help each other out getting used to the controls.

PS5 news eclipsing Dreams in some way shape or form was foretold by Nostradamus. That's what happens when you show off your new game (engine) at the hardware reveal but only release "Early access" while the next gen console is being brought out into the light. At least Cerny emphasized the BC so us early access purchasers can keep on playing.

Someday we'll find it

Got it, ordered on my phone while in a work meeting. Downloaded but going to take a look another night when I have time. Excited though!

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@rjejr the Mario platformer didn't really work because the controls are too slow and floaty for it. I'm not sure how deep the tools are in terms of changing how the controls work because most of the creations I've played so far have the same feel to them, which is a bit of a shame as that may get tiresome.

I played a bit of 'Slayer Scrolls', it was quite a neat idea and was one of the more polished longer games I've seen.

I think when we start seeing more people collaborating and the better ideas getting more fleshed out there will be some fantastic experiences here. Think things like Journey, Abzu, Edith Finch etc are gonna be made in abundance here. It's exciting to think what could come but I'm still sceptical of how the game is gonna deal with copyright issues and such.
